Great period book!
The opportunity to view a collection from such a vibrant time in motorsports history, by a noted and aclaimed photographer, should be seized. Any die-hard racing enthusiast is certain to appreciate the many vantage points of the photos in gaining a sense of what the period was truly like.

la Tour de Force Automobile
First, a disclaimer: my desk faces framed prints of Fangio at Monaco, 1956, and Fangio at Reims, 1958 by Jesse Alexander, and my copy of the sadly out-of-print LOOKING BACK is signed by the photographer and Juan Manuel Fangio. But even if names like Jean Behra and Wolfgang von Trips are unfamiliar, anyone with a love of sport and a sense of nostalgia for a less populated and more hopeful late '50's Europe will be enthralled by DRIVEN. Jesse Alexander's timing and composition are peerless, capturing not just the machines, but the souls of the men who risked their lives for sport in the optimistic days between the Second World War and Vietnam. The familiar images of Gurney, Moss, and Fangio brim with vigor and confidence. The images of the great Jimmy Clark verge on the iconic. Perhaps my favorite image is that of the Porsche team's garage at Le Mans in 1959: the French street urchins in the background are right out of the RED BALOON. I could go on, but perhaps the best review of the work in the book is the forward by Sir Stirling Moss, whose eloquent reminiscences and insights stand in stark contrast to the bone-headed comments we see from today's "Karting With Bernie" racing drivers. The layout and printing would be superb at four times the price--this book is a must-have, and the first edition is sure to sell out. If you love racing, buy it!

Excellent
Being the motorsports fan that I am I needed no encouragement or instruction to watch motor racing, but the British Formula 1 champ brings the sport to life in this tremendous guide. The tips were spot on and I particularly liked his advice on what profanities to yell at the tv in the chapter "Who cares if he can't hear you?" As the author says, it's all about fun at the end of the day, so follow his advice and "Get a keg in, take a few beers on board and settle in and wait for some tosser to crash."

Moss the master of 1950's int'l motor racing
Stirling Moss was the Aryton Senna of the 1950s international motor racing scene in spite of the fact that he never won the F1 world championship or LeMans. He didn't always try to drive the best cars but everyone knew he was head and sholders above all the other drivers. He has collaborated with professional writer Doug Nye in a review of his career and the cars that took him to the top ranks. It is amazing that he must have kept notes or a diary along the way since the descriptions and details of all the stories are so complete! If you are into historic race cars and drivers, this is for you.

a look through the eyes of a driver of the old school
A really good read, taking the reader into the front seat of all types of cars as raced and rallied by one of the "gentlemen of the track". Plus a peep into the offtrack life of the stars of the past racing generation

Excellent read about England's greatest driver & gentleman
Although there are numerous books about Moss, this is one that epitomizes his life, style, achievements and true greatness as a driver and gentleman.

A touching hommage
This is one of the best Fangio books available.
Stirling Moss, one of the greatest drivers ever, shows his admiration for the Maestro. This is not just a book by a fan. It is a book by a specialist that actually ran against Fangio and knew what he was capable of. Moss is not a man to demean himself and he describes the fights against Fangio, justlty proud of when he beat him (mainly in sports cars).
It is touching that so great a driver as Moss really is capable of such humility in the face of the one which was, perhaps, the greatest driver ever.
There are many features of interest, on Fangio the man and his incredible combination of competitiveness and goodwill and good sportsmanship, on his racing tactics and on his early and later years. The pictures are interesting.
There is also a Video to match which also is a must.

Excellent history of Fangio, as detailed by Moss himself
A must read for anyone with the slightest interest in motor racing history and the men who made it great. Fangio's life, his achievements and his spirit is presented in intimate detail by his greatest rival and friend, Stirling Moss.

Beginning with his early racing throughout Latin America, this book chronicles the successes - and tragedies - that made Fangio a living legend. The insights and personal notes by Moss bring the entire book alive.

Nicely done.
Any book that tries to cover such a wide topic is obviously going to have to use very broad strokes. This book is no exception but overall it does and admirable job. A nice way to pass the time when you can't be either out restoring or buying new toys to restore. Don't expect detail guide though - for that you will need a manual specific to your individual car. This covers the basics of the areas you will need to look up in that specific manual.
