Very strongly recommended for students of the occult
Compiled by Mark Alan Morris, The Ghost Next Door is a collection of chilling stories of paranormal encounters, as told by everyday men and women. Careful description and attention to detail make these tales eerily believable and truly spooky. From the woman who was visited by her grandfather on the night of the old man's funeral; to the playground where one particular swing is always occupied by a ghost; to the home in Texas that was visited by a ghost who came all the way from Gettysburg, the tales comprising The Ghost Next Door are very strongly recommended for students of the occult.

Perfect for Stormy Nights!
I just finished this book and I have to say it is a keeper! If you like to settle down in the evening with a good book about hauntings, this is for you. The stories keep you on the edge of your seat, and the really creepy thing is that they are all true. I love the way the author sets up each story with a little bit of commentary. It really sets the mood for the spooky stories that follow! This is a great little book for anyone who likes ghost stories. Be sure to add this one to your collection.

Recommended Reading for Ghost Story Lovers!
The Ghost Next Door is a great little book to curl up with in your favorite chair on a spooky night. It really pulls you in with the author's commentary and stories that are told from the first-person perspective. I found it refreshing, since all of the stories are new, and have never been told before. It really makes you wonder if there are any ghosts around you as you're reading it!

Was very helpful for self study course
I found both this book, and the Level Two edition (called Intermediate on amazon) to be very good. I lived in Russia for about 6 monthes, and before and after this I used these books to self-study Russian. I tried a number of other books, both easier and harder, and found this one worked the best for me. It is a good mix of vocubulary, grammer, and a holistic approach to Russian which I enjoyed. It is easier than the college textbooks I worked with, and provides more stand-alone exercises to drill in the material. With the more advanced textbooks I tried, they provided too many rules too quickly and not enough drills to force you to memorize them. In a classroom environment this might be ok, but for me this approach worked much better. The book is geared to a young audience, probably mostly high school students, but not annoyingly so. You can also get tapes with both books. These are a bit pricey, but useful for doing the listening and pronunciation drills.

Good book for beginners
This is a good book for beginners. It seems to be aimed toward a younger audience, but it's still good for adults. The book focuses on the overall language itself, not just vocabulary or grammar.

Very technical but very useful.
The 4th edition of Small Animal Clinical Nutrition is significantly different from the first 3 editions -- expanded, more information, different editors, different organization, etc.

Much of this volume is more technical than the average reader wants or needs. It is a textbook used in veterinary schools. But a dedicated reader could gain much from it. Even the average reader could benefit from the chapters on commerical pet foods and on home prepared diets.

Contributions
Is good to see this book is not just written by nutriologist, there is an important contribution of clinicians dedicated to specific areas.

It really does contain valuable information on card cheating
When I first received this book, I wasn't overly impressed with the size (105 pages) and the fact that it was a paperback for its relatively high price tag. BUT, Bert Morris jam packs this small publication with terrific information, insights and a wealth of detail about card sharks! I loved it. It is enjoyable reading for the amateur card player trying to keep himself/herself from getting taken. I have done a lot of research on the subject of card cheating and I agree that 99% of the information and cheating methods exposed in this book are not printed anywhere. I often play in private poker games in West Texas as well as Hold-em and OMaha high-low in Casinos all over the country whenever I can. This book is invaluable!

Understanding the Artist and his Work
This book was fascinating! Mark Morris' work is brilliant, beautiful and new. This book offers insight into the artist's childhood and early introduction to the arts, traces the evolution of his company from its humble and informal beginnings to its present place as one of the outstanding modern companies in the world, and explores the themes Morris' work so often addresses. The insight into his complex character makes watching his work still more rewarding. Includes many great photos.

Indispensable guide to modern music
Before setting out to explore the daunting hinterland of modern classical music, you would be well advised to appoint Mark Morris as your guide. To call his book a mere dictionary does it a great disservice. His commentary, not just on the composers but on their works, is well worth the journey. Even if the subject fails to excite you, he has mapped out the perfect itinerary. The sense of what a musical work is all about is not readily conveyed in words, just as words cannot be properly conveyed in music. But Mark Morris almost convinces you that you are 'listening' to what he describes - no mean feat. He makes 20th-century music accessible in a way no other writer has done for this particular listener.

This Is Egypt
If you have ever wanted to visit Egypt, but never had the money or the chance, this book is for you. Through it's stunning photographs and rich text, the author takes you on a mental voyage through Egypt. Never have I felt so in touch with a place as when I was reading this book. Packed with educational value and brimming with facts, this book led me through a journey that I have again and again taken in my mind and in my dreams. The combination of Guy Marks's words and James Morris's pictures tempt the mind and the soul to wander the globe in search of the ancient histories of this fascinating place. I reccomend this book to all who have dreamed of Egypt and even to those who haven't, to open their minds to a new place in the world.

Good intro for self-study
This is an introductory book. It also fits in introductory level of Mathematical Statistics. The prerequisites are introductory calculus and linear algebra. Most theorems are proved in calculus style but there are some gIt can be shownsh that are not proved. So some readers may not be satisfied with the book, especially Math majors.

Logical steps are shown in detail; else logical gaps are contained within a level such that a first time reader can fill in the gap with a pencil and paper. Occasional mix with Bayesian perspective is also a feature. Answers to odd-numbered exercises are provided except ones that ask derivations and proofs. Exercises that require some tricks are provided with hints. In these respects, this textbook is suitable for self-study.

Upon completion of the entire material, I feel concepts are developed well up to Hypothesis testing Chapter 8 where the presentation of material reaches climax and its level of exposition is somewhat higher than other chapters. Thereafter, simple linear regression is treated in detail, but coverage and detail of materials seem to deteriorate from the following general regression section, nonparametrics and thereafter. Kolmogorov-Smirnov Tests section is treated nicely though. Anova section lacks in coverage. The new simulation chapter is presented more like a demonstration rather than an introduction.

I have never seen the previous 2nd edition (unfortunately Dr. Degroot is no longer with us), but according to the preface of this 3rd edition, Dr. Schervish describes 8 major changes from the previous edition. Notable are some material removed from the previous (likelihood principle, Gauss-Markov theorem, and stepwise regression), some added (lognormal distribution, quantiles, prediction and prediction intervals, improper priors, Bayes test, power functions, M-estimators, residual plots in linear models and Bayesian analysis of simple linear regression), more exercises and examples, special notes, introduction and summary to each section, and so on. I find the last in the list is somewhat disturbing, especially introduction parts that are often redundant with the very next paragraph. On the other hand, I find that special notes provide good insights.

I wish they included introduction to Statistical Decision theory, full coverage of regression analysis to be usable such as diagnosis, transformation and variable selection, coverage of Multivariate Normal distribution, more coverage and depth in nonparametrics and simulation, and lists of recommended readings for further study at the end of each section with comments.

There are a noticeable number of typos as of this first printing I have. I sent suggestions for typos and was impressed that Dr. Schervish updated errata list within a few days at his homepage. I wish all authors were like him being responsible.

Great stats book
I used to hate statistics, but this book is pretty clear and concise, and gets the idea across very quickly and easily. The exercise questions were of reasonable difficulty, and are put forth in a clear manner, unlike other books which present the questions in round-about manner. The examples tend to follow on or build upon from the earlier chapters, so it is best to tackle the book in the order as prescribed by the chapters.

best introduction to the field
I have looked at many introductory books to probability and statistics and this one is definitely the best. It is very clear and readable and yet gets to pretty advanced stuff.

The Good News About Depression: Cures and Treatments in the New Age of Psychiatry

The Biopsychiatrist Point of View well laid out
Dr. Gold takes a medical approach to curing depression. He eliminates the false causes, through medical tests, to find the true source of affliction. He lists the possible biological disorders that can mimic depression, the key indicators, and the methods used to detect them. Then he lists the mood disorders and the means of discovering their severity and proceeds to explain what therapies he would recommend. A very well written book, critical of doctors that misdiagnose patients, encouraging in his belief that all depressions can be managed and cured. A good guidebook to approaching your doctor, fair in its balance of psychotherapy and psychopharmacology as treatments, and very sincere in its positive message to all patients that have depressive symptoms.

The Bible of Overlooked Medical Causes of Depression
The work of Mark Gold and his associates was an eye-opener for me when I was researching (author's book plug alert) the first edition of my book, Dealing with Depression Naturally. It was they who discovered, over 20 years ago, that there is a substantial subgroup of depressives - mostly middle-aged women - who are resistant to therapy because they have a relatively mild or subclinical degree of hypothyroidism that eludes diagnosis unless sensitive, seldom employed tests are used. Thankfully, "the thyroid solution" is finally being recognized by the mainstream. But Gold et al. (and other "biopsychiatrists") are hip to a much, much broader array of established medical/physical illnesses and conditions (literally 100 or so) that also can cause or promote the symptoms of depression, without attracting the attention of the average doctor bent on whipping out the old prescription pad after a cursory physical examination and history, at best.

This book - written with the help of a popular writer to make it an easy read for the average Jane and Joe - will educate you (and your doctor, if s/he is willing) about the range of hidden (if you don't look, they're still "hidden") medical/physical causes that could be causing or contributing to your depression (but not including some of the fringier ones, like brain allergies and Candida) and how to rule them in or out and, in many cases, treat THEM instead of the secondary depresion. With authoritative estimates that up to 50% of depressions are accompanied by physical illnesses that could be playing a causative role - and preventing depressives from recovering fully or at all, even when treated with the latest, greatest drugs (which Gold also discusses in depth, but circa 1995, along with a few natural alternatives and adjuncts) - this kind of knowledge is real power.

Excellant book!
I recieved the tests described in the book. These tests pinpointed the type of depression and the proper anti-depressant.I had relief after taking the first two capsules and have been fine since. (1986-Fair Oaks Hospital,Summit N.J.) Thank you Dr.Gold.
