A powerful tool in biological sciences
Atomic force microscopy (AFM) is one technique in a family of new microscopies called scanning probe microscopies (SPMs) which has recently opened a wide range of novel, fascinating applications for biologists (biochemists, biophysicists, cell biologists, microbiologists,...). This book provides an excellent survey of those applications. It is nicely illustrated with numerous images from leading experts in the field. Clear descriptions of the apparatus and its basic principles are provided in a way accessible to students/scientists that do not have a strong physics background. This book will be useful to biologists, but also non-biologists dealing with biosystems, to evaluate the advantages and limitations of AFM in their specific field and to define appropriate procedures that will lead them to successful experiments.

Unravelling Biological Applications of SPM
"Atomic Force Microscopy for Biologists" is an excellent introduction for anybody wishing to enter this field. Nearly all aspects are covered. The book opens with an overview of the theory behind Atomic Force Microscopy and the different modes of use. This is presented in a concise manner without over-reliance on complex mathematical equations. Unlike many other volumes, practical advice on sample preparation techniques is provided for common systems such as proteins, cells and DNA. A comprehenive review of leading research in this area at the time of publication is sectioned by biomaterial type. Different approaches to imaging are tackled. The text is supported by numerous supporting images.

In summary I would strongly recommend this book to any biologist planning on carrying out research using SPM imaging technqiues and existing users in the field who wish to broaden their knowledge of SPM imaging and the research already carried out n common biological systems.

Blessings from the Heart is a wonderful, inspirational book written with the true meaning of love. This story is about a subject that could touch any family at any given time, and the importance of organ donation needs to be considered. I recommend this story to any age reader as this is a subject which reaches all of us.

Thought Provoking Book
A good story about good people. "Blessings from the Heart" has an inspiring message that we all need. It's good to know how many lives can be saved or helped by organ donation. I'm signing up.

Blessings From the Heart
This story about a teenage boy is so timely in today's world. Life can be snuffed out in a second. Finding out how this life lived on in the lives of others should make organ donation a matter of discussion with families who read this book. Blessings From the Heart is a "must read" book for parents of children of any age.

Repetitive record-keeping recommendations
The author's main suggestion in this book is his concept of "document and proof." If you already keep your bank statements, cancelled checks, and copies of your tax returns, you don't need this book. Other suggestions include sending form letters to business and government agencies asking them what they are doing for Y2k and sending all Y2k and finacial correspondence certified mail-return receipt.

An excellent guide to protecting yourself against Y2K crisis
The true value of this book is helping you reduce the impact of the Y2K computer-based errors on your life, assets, and sanity. How? By using that old Scout motto: Be prepared.

And just what strategy is suggested to accomplish this? Be able to prove that you really do exist, have property and other assets, own a bank account, or otherwise have things. And you need to be able to re-establish whatever relationships you have with organizations, companies, schools, or govermental agencies. Documentation and proof, the author calls this.

What specific steps and procedures should you use to protect yourself:

* Set your priorities regarding your protection strategy actions for specific organizations.

* Start early and keep up with the Y2K news.

* Use certified mail and return receipt services as an integral part of document and prove.

* Retain exact copies of all correspondence you send and originals of all received correspondence.

* Maintain your information in a specific location -- file it away.

* Create a diary of your activities, making notes about what you are doing and when, including any verbal and written communications.

* Create a calendar of what should happen and when, as a tickler to keep you ahead of the problems.

* Assign a level of importance to everyone with whom you've had or will have dealings.

* Develop a specific plan of what you will do -- and communicate this with your family.

Morris then goes on to discuss specific things to do with the IRS, Social Security, governmental records, passports, identification cards, military records, memberships, employment records, banks, credit cards and debit cards, stock brokers and fund managers, mortgage companies, taxing authorities, legal records, health care, insurance companies, credit reporting agencies, schools and universities, automobiles, pets, personal computers, utilities, and more.

The author says that problems will occur due to Y2K errors. How many and to what extent? No one knows. But it's ! better to be prepared than to react.

A Y2K eye-opener for everyone.
Individually we can't solve the world's Y2K problem but if everyone were to take the necessary actions for their immediate surroundings then major problems could be resolved quickly and efficiently if and when they do come up. By reading everything and anything about the Y2K problem helps the lone individual from being caught off guard. Many individuals are in a state of denial and won't know what to do even when a minute crises appears that could have been averted with minimal preparations ahead of time. This book is very informative while raising your level of conscientiousness without causing panic. It walks you through the history of the Y2K problem while giving tips on how to organize files and receipts. Included are form letters with a list of potential computer problem companies requiring them to respond to your request of what actions they are taking for the Y2K problem. Finally, concise, attainable lists of essential items in checklist form to have on hand is also comprised and included in the book. I highly recommend this book. It's written in simple terms while getting the point across. Don't leave any chip unturned.

Nice Pictures & Healing Info, but distorts what Reiki is
This book has a beautiful cover and lots of useful pictures inside. It also offers information about complementary forms of natural healing and Reiki healing techniques for specific conditions or organs. However, it is focused on maintaining exclusivity for Reiki healers and relies on the Takata/Samdahl stories and lineage, which distort the universality of Reiki healing. Reiki healing is a set of practices for connecting to and transmitting high frequency spiritual/subtle energy, and is not exclusive to any particular Reiki organization or lineage. A Reiki student can develop or NOT develop power and skill as a healer regardless of who taught them. I would make an analogy to establishment education, where people go to colleges and follow a curriculum, and upon completing their coursework some become very skillful and gifted at a profession while others don't. Meanwhile, many people have been quite gifted and accomplished in a field solely through self-education and effort, or innate talent. Expensive and lengthy Reiki courses may garner a higher frequency of commitment (within those taking the course), but they do this by discouraging some people who would otherwise pursue this healing path. There seems to be a fear that quickie Reiki courses will minimize the Reiki profession/art, rather than an appreciation for the spread of interest and availability for basic Reiki training, which benefits many people.

Infestation of "Generic" Reiki
This book gives a more balanced picture of Reiki. It is based on many personal conversations with Virginia Samdahl, the first Reiki Master trained by Madame Takada. Those people complaining about the price of direct linage Reiki would also like to buy a black belt in Karate.

Healing Power of Your Heart
The reviewers heated discussion over the historical facts of the Reiki tradition in "Reiki: Hands That Heal" by Joyce Morris made me believe that this book presented a distorted history of the Reiki tradition. So I bought it as a contraversial history book and discovered that between the covers, there was something else -- a great handbook on natural healing. Page by page -- by the way, superbly designed -- the reader receives detailed instruction on how to tune into universal healing energies, and for God's sake -- to help himself to become more energized, optimistic, vital, and more positive, in other words -- fit to handle daily pressure, emotional and mental challenges.

The reviewers tell that out there are better books about Reiki. If one has interest in Reiki history, yes, it would make sense to buy all of them and compare facts. But if someone is looking for a practical guide how to learn to trust your own healing power, to enforce it through alignment with Reiki, or universal healing force, I cannot recommend a better book than this one. The presentation is beautiful and clear, but most importantly -- it stresses over and over again the simplest truth that we tend to forget -- that health and prosperity stem from faith and purity of our thoughts and intentions. Cleanse your heart, and Reiki will cleanse your body for you!

Sometimes, there is nothing better than a poor review! In the present case, it guided me to a great book that encouraged me to count on the healing power on my own heart. What an idea! Why take my word for it? You may wish to find it out on your own.
