Eric Morris is a genius
After reading Eric's brilliant books, I was curious to see what "the man" was like in person. WOW! "No Acting Please" is an incredible primer for actually studying with Eric. Eric brings the principles of "No Acting Please," "Being And Doing" and "Irreverant Acting" to life in his 2-day seminars. I don't care how long you've been acting or how accomplished you think you are - what this man teaches, in writing and in person, cannot even have a value put on it. I'm a regular on a Top 15 drama series, and when I first started studying with Eric about 6 months ago I realized how little I really know. He's taken my acting to new heights, heights I never thought I could reach. He made me excited to be an actor again. You can't put a price on passion. I highly recommend reading Eric's books (get ALL of them) and sitting in on his seminar. Check out his website too.

A Must-Have Book/A Must-Avoid Acting Coach
This one of the best books on acting ever published. It is also one of the only books where you can significantly improve just by reading the thing, "getting" it, and playing around with some of the exercises. Eric stumbled upon something great with his "Being State" stuff. However, I have studied with Eric, and run from Eric, and so have many established actors/celebrities. He is a total narcissist neurotic whose "craft" sucks all pleasure from acting. Personal recommendation: JUST READ HIS BOOK AND DON'T GO NEAR HIM.
And one more thing: Eric's books on imaging and craft and Carl Jung-based theories on acting are all bogus. If you read them you see how more and more self-indulgent and full of it he gets and how these lengthy pop-psychology theories are truly ignorant. Save your money but keep "No Acting Please" as a bible.

An eye opener!!!
I discovered this book by accident years ago and it helped my acting tremendously. This, Being and Doing and Irreverent Acting --all by Eric Morris are some of the best books on acting ever written.

These books helped me stretch as an actor by suggesting exercises for my emotional instrument. I did them alone and found I could reach areas of emotions that were at one time foreign to me.

Incredibly helpful. Helped me grow as an actor, a teacher and a director!!

Timely reminder to: "Be Prepared"
"Corregidor" is a true-to-life "Winds of War" about the early stages of WWII for America. "Corregidor" traces memories of actual participants and research illustrating peacetime from mid year of 1941 to the fall of Bataan and Corregidor in the Philippines from December 1941 to May 1942. Great adventure depicting a true-to-life drama. Illustrates the strong heart of the American and Philippine troops who fought the battles and the failure of an unprepared military leadership. Many lessons of military and national leadership are demonstrated. In an age when the American military is searching for meaning and redefinition this is a must read for those interested in a properly prepared military.

One of the best books on acting ever written.
Once, in Eric Morris' Acting class, I mistakenly referred to this book as Irrelevant Acting. Nothing could be farther from the truth. This is one of the best books on acting ever!

The exercises and work in this book have enhanced my acting tremendously, given me a way of working that is unmatched by any other acting book I've ever come accross (and I've read a ton of em) and has made me a powerful teacher and director in my own right.

It explains Eric's Technique of Freeing the Instrument (Explained in great detail in his No Acting Please which should be read prior to this book.) It explains a new way of looking at material and personally connecting it to the actor through choices and choice approaches. It truly helps make the actor an artist in that he creates and is truly using himself.

If you utilize this work and combine it with some common sense of your own (if you don't combine it with some common sense--some of it can get you into trouble) your acting will take on a new dimension; you will be more open as an actor artist and human being.

You will learn how to free and tap into your emotions. How to make personal choices for your material. How to make Choice approaches or tools to connect you to the work and more! Read this book. Do the exercises. I can't recommend it enough.

Do read No Acting Please first and follow it with this amazing masterpiece.

Descent
It wasn't a terrible book or anything, but it did very little to improve upon my acting. I would have liked more acting tips and less preperation tips.

Good book, but could use more
Having read this book in my acting class, I feel I gained little in the way of learning about acting. It's really just a collection of preparations, such as overcoming fear, and learning how to relax. The exercises are great, but that's about all this book is good for. The author tends to repeat himself over and over throughout the book. So, if you're looking to learn how to act, don't get this book. If you want to learn exercises to deal with fear, tension, and other "blocks," get this book.

Wonderful Workbook filled with Great Exercises.
This is a wonderful workbook--easy to follow with great exercises. If you do the exercises, I guarantee you will improve your acting and accessibiltiy to your emotional instrument. I use them in my classes when I teach acting.
The results are phoenomenal.

If you just read them-- and let them sit there they won't do diddly squat. This book is the beginning of an eye opening approach to acting by Eric Morris. The exercises are powerful, will deepen your intensity and provide access to your emotional instrument. Do read this book in conjunction with No Acting Please which better explains Eric's work. Follow it with Irreverent Acting. The three act as a powerful acting trilogy and together form some of the best books on acting ever written.

Frustrating book
The first half of this text seems be be a bit simple. Many of the problems are confusing at best. The authors are not very clear on what they want. Many students in my class were frustrated by this time and time again. Still other times the questions were way to easy and never really chalanged the students. Basicly the first half does not provied a good solid base for Calculus. The second half is just flat out poorly written. It leaves the students constently scraching their heads wondering what the authors want. Questions are asked in such a way as to not make sence or not to follow the chapters very well. Chapt 7 is very much like this. Bad. The faculty agrees by having to put out an additional book of their own to help provide a better understanding of Trig.
Over all this book needs to be re-thought out. A poor choise for instructors wanting their students to get a solid base so as to takle more advaced math classes.

I like it
I like pictures of people on bikes. It makes me feel better because riding mountain bikes is fun. So when I work on functions, I feel happier.

Great for understanding functions
Great book! It is especially good for understanding what different functions do, and how. This is very important for understanding calculus. Great examples, always linking functions with things in real life.

Acting on Mars.
Eric Morris has written some of the best books on acting ever written. They are loaded with wonderful exercises and insights into acting never before put on paper. They explore the instrument, the craft, choices for material, choice approaches and have helped me so much both as an actor, director and teacher. Those books are No Acting Please, Being and Doing and Irrevent Acting! Read them in that order at once and your acting, directing and teaching will immediately become more dimensional and enhanced They are eye openers.

This one however I believe goes to far. It's not as accessible as the others and goes to far into new agey type exercises that are just not as accesible as the exercises in the other books. The semantics also get very confusing in this book. Words like "selective enhancement", "Imaging" and using your "dreams" to enhance your acting." I found myself thinking--"you've got to be joking." I just felt in reading it that Eric just went a bit too far into outer space. Eric come back to earth! The best part of the book is some of the material already covered in Irreverent Acting.--which is a far better book.

In summation, I think this book will be very confusing to actors who have not read all of the other books or studied with Eric and might be turn off to Eric's work as it is confusing and ethereal. So run to the book store and buy those other books and save this one for when you just haven't gotten enough of Eric Morris' Acting Books and maybe want to travel to outer space.
