A Beautiful Book!
This is simply a beautiful book. Early this morning, I gave
it one star and was a bit mean. It didn't get through the submission process. I said words to the effect that the Dali Lama was dictatorial about religious freedom. And that he suppressed religious freedom in 1977 in regards to the Dorje Shugden controversy. I talked to a NKT Buddhist nun this afternoon. And she told me that if you are devoted to the Dali Lama as your teacher, then your practice is pure and you are practicing the dharma fully. This is such a wonderful book. With essays written by different authors. And the pictures are almost breath-taking. The layout of the pages is stunning.
And it just fabulous to read. I know that you will enjoy it. It
is a real gem. And perhaps we should leave politics behind.

Much more than your usual collection of quotes
A Simple Monk presents Robert Thurman's gathering of writings on the Dalai Lama, presenting such writings and reflections in a new visual biography which adds full-color images by photojournalist Alison Wright. The result is much more than your usual collection of quotes: a fine, rich gift edition.

Thanks to "a reader from Yellow River" for their review
The "a reader from Yellow River" inspired me to order this book and the corresponding video, as a message of compassion and peace, which is what we - and most of all me - needs in our world, at all times and right now.

It's a message that in particular, we as Amercians, after the "events of September 11" - now and in the present - need to hear, listen and LEARN. This review was so thoughtful, comprehensive and detailed that I can't wait to get the book and read it "through and through." The "reader from Yellow River" made the money sound more than worth it, and I'm sure it will be!

"What price peace?"

What price is peace worth? "It's worth it's weight in gold."

The question is, "how do we achieve this?"

I hope the answer (or part of "the answer") can be found in this book. Will let you know what I learn.

Enjoy life. There's plenty of time to be dead.
A great read full of interesting ideas but as far as I know we have not begun colonizing other planets, so what are the alternatives?

Outstanding Book
This is a great book to add to your collection of survival books or to use alone. i have read all of Tom Browns books and have found them to be the most usefull and inspiring of any survival book around. The main thing i like about his books are that he relates all of his teaching to the primitive ways, and for me that is what primitive living is all about. This book is more than just a survial book, it is a book to help those interested in primitive living to be able to go out in the woods, and live off the land from what he has taught. Get this book, and you wont be sorry.

This book is awsome!!!!
I obtained thid book from my local library when they got rid of it, because I was the only person who would ever check it out. I think it is a great book for anyone who wants to or is trying to regain their ancestrial roots. It vividly explains how to build shelters, tan hides, and even make arrowheads. Personally I love it and I think others will probably feel the same way.

Bobby Rahal: The Graceful Champion
This is one of the many outstanding books that I have in my collection that were written by Gordon Kirby. Bobby Rahal was a 3 time CART champion and the winner of the 1986 Indianapolis 500, now he is successful businessman and car-owner. Like all of the Gordon Kirby books in my collection, the photography in this book is superb. The forward by Nigel Mansfield shows the respect that Bobby Rahal generated from his fellow race car drivers. This is a must-have book for anyone who collects Indianapolis 500 or CART memorabilia.

Beautiful Book, Great Read
Bobby Rahal is one of the greats of motorsports, and Gordon Kirby is one of the greats of motorsports journalism. Put them together, and the result is an engrossing look at the career of one of America's finest champions.

This is not just a listing of races and results. You get the story behind the races, and insight into Rahal's life and career you won't find anywhere else. The great photos (many from Rahal's private collection) make the book visually beautiful.

If you are a fan of auto racing, this book belongs in your collection.

NICE JOB, GK
First, a disclaimer: I am a friend and colleague of the author.

With that out of the way, I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys racing. It does an excellent job of describing the less-than-glamorous grunt work required to make it to top-level motorsports. Many people know about Rahal's CART championships and Indianapolis 500 victory; few know about his exploits racing all around the world against guys like Gilles Villeneuve, Keke Rosberg and Nelson Piquet.

The text is an excellent balance between Kirby's narrative and Rahal's own words, and the book is attractively laid out with thoughtful photo choices. Some of the Rahal family photos are priceless.

Rahal wasn't always the fastest guy on the track, but he may have been the smartest. He's extremely intelligent and well-read in almost every subject, and this book demonstrates his success as a team owner has not come by accident.

In general, this is one of the best racing books I have read. Get it.

the roots of nascar
being a relatively new fan of nascar, and having family members that work closely with it gave me the incentive to read this book. after the untimely death of nascar great dale earnhardt, i found it difficult to watch the weekly races.they seemed to be missing an important member of nascar and my reason for tuning in every weekend. after reading this book,i have changed my mind.nascar is truly the junior johnsons, the kale yarboroughs, and the ricard pettys. they made nascar what it is today. they paved the road for the newcomers. i still miss dale, but now i find i really do have another reason to tune in. i enjoy watching. i no longer have a favorite driver. i just cheer on the front runner. the book was a good read. i reccomend it highly.

A must read story of a legend written by two legends!
Tom Higgins of the Charlotte Observer and ESPN and Steve Waid of WC Illus. can tell a story like no one else can. Mix Tom, Steve and Junior together and you get lots of NASCAR history AND sore ribs.

what a book, what a racer!
To all outward appearances Jr Johnson was a country bumpkin, yet this book shows beneath that "good ole boy" veneer was a sophisticated mind and drive on which crowds cheered and engineers with PhDs came for advice, the latter not covered by Tom Wolfe's book. A quality presentation.

Excellent book on a top notch Nascar Driver
For all you Rusty fans and those who are not, this is a must read book. Received my copy during the holiday time and I could not put the book down. A lot of information about Rusty Wallace and how he got his start into Nascar.

Great photographs. A book you will not put down.

A MUST HAVE!
If you are a Rusty Wallace fan this is one you have 2 own. His last book RACER has long been out of print and Decision to Win has it beat. Great photography! Photos from the time Rusty was a young kid up 2 today. Almost every question you could ask about Rusty, his career and family are answered. Get it now before it goes out of print 2!

Wonderful book...
I only received this book yesterday, and as of this moment, I have about 15 pages left. It was impossible to put down, as it contained so many little-known facts about Rusty, Kenny, Mike and the rest of the people close to Rusty. Family and friends contributed many photos, old and new. There is so much about Rusty Wallace that you'll never know unless you read this book. The whole Wallace family was fully engulfed in the world of racing, and "Rusty Wallace - The Decision to Win" is a rare opportunity to take a peek inside the box of memories that was Rusty. A wonderful, wonderful read. The book's format is also very nice, and is a lot bigger in size than I expected. This book definitely will not be spending any time on a bookshelf. This book needs to be displayed on my coffee table! A must have for any RACE fan. Rusty Wallace fan, or not. It's a fascinating look at the struggles and triumphs along the road to where Rusty is today. I'd give it 10 stars if I could!

This wonderful story about a boy and his horse shows that special bond that can exist between a person and an animal. The illustrations enhance the story. Our family read an article in the Randolph (Vermont) Herald that tells the real story of John and Tom.

Get chutzpah!!!
This book is a great motivator. It teaches important lessons about seizing opportunities, making opportunities and keeping life in balance. Peter Kash recounts episode after episode of times when opportunity came knocking, and he answered the door. The heart of his book is understanding how he found opportunity, made opportunity and profitted from opportunity. It is an inspirational treatise. Read it and LEAP!!!!

Second to none!
I read Make Your Own Luck in two short evenings and can say, without hesitation, that it is amazing.

Peter Morgan Kash opens his heart and tells valuable stories that come from his experience, more than once, making and then losing a fortune. His candidness and warm persona draw the reader into the book; he speaks to you as a friend who is teaching you exactly what you need to do to be successful.

Kash eloquently illustrates how failure is an essential part of success. His stories are refreshing and intriguing.

A main theme is what Kash calls the "Web of Life." Through fascinating anecdotes, he tells us that one never knows how those whom one meets can appear in the future to help in unforeseen ways.

Had anyone told me before I read this book how inclined I would be to treat people differently after reading it, I would have said that they were mistaken. It's absolutely true though. My relationships with people actually changed for the better after reading Make Your Own Luck.

An investment in this book is well worth it. Even a reader with no business inclination or interest will benefit from reading Make Your Own Luck. All of the proceeds of this book go directly to charity. For the minimal time investment that is required to read this book, you will be rewarded in more ways than you can imagine. Buy it, you won't regret it!

Life Skills for Our Times
I am a CPA and attorney in practice for over forty years. I have been involved with the financial lives of many successful businesses and their management. This has given me great insight into what kind of skills are essential to succeed in today's business world. Mr. Kash has compiled and put into a lively and fast read format those very skills, and they turn out to be the same as those required for success in our personal lives as well.

This book should be required reading not only in every business school in America, but in every high school classroom. What's more, it's not only for the student and the young. At any age, if this kind of thinking and awareness of opportunity and how to take advantage of opportunity has not been developed, it's not too late. Mr. Kash's book will open our eyes.

It's a great gift, especially in these troubled times, and will be appreciated for years.

A valuable guide to outer and inner awareness
This is an unusual book in which hard core tracking tips are blended with instructions on cultivation of the inner silence. As opposed to other stories about tracking which border the domain of fiction (e.g., "The Way of the Scout"), Brown gives us in this Field Guide practical advice on reading animal tracks, constructing shelters etc. The tips on "Nature Observation" in this field guide are unsurpassed by any other tracking book I know. TB provides us with priceless descriptions of what happens the moment we enter the forest - that is, how the alarm signal spreads from the birds to mammals and how long it takes for it to subside. The forest he is talking about is a living entity, where everything is connected and where one can plug into the circuits of the information flow by learning to listen to the sounds, by studying the terrain and the wind and by knowing how to camouflage and mask one's smell. The book provides useful info on various types of walking/stalking in the woods. Finally, there is deep reverence for nature something which occurs when one has learnt to be silent amidst the whispering trees (no mean trick for the Westerner who tends to function through the head). Tom Brown has learnt the inner silence tricks from his Apache teacher ("the Grandfather") and trackers might find this book useful for learning more about Native American attitudes toward nature. A similar approach to nature is encountered in some of Paul Rezendes' books (which i also recommend). In short, this book will be useful to those who are interested in approaching nature on its own terms. It will inspire the beginners in tracking and complement knowledge of hard core SAR UTS trackers (:)

Exiting!!!!!!!
This book gave me a renewed enthusiasm for nature and an urgent need to be outdoors, I wanted to do everything he was teaching as I was reading it. I went right out and practiced his techniques as soon as possible during and after reading this book. I've never seen so much wildlife as I do now. It has made me a better outdoorsman and has given more meaning to my time spent outdoors. I can't wait to share it with my father who taught me some basics of tracking when I was a boy. This book taught me all the stuff I wished I had learned long ago, now i must make up for lost time I spent with my eyes closed to the things that connect me with the earth.

Beyond Hiking and Camping
This book guides you to a deeper communion and awareness of nature not possible through the ordinary outdoor pursuits most authors write about. Here you will learn the basics of camouflage, observation, and movement which opens the door to seeing more in the outdoors then you thought possible. After reading this book for the first time, I took Brown's advice and simply sat down in the woods. Within fifteen minutes a woodchuck came blithely walking by totally oblivious to my presence. That was more wildlife than I had seen on a dozen previous hikes or camping trips. It was the starting point of twenty years of exploration and discovery and the end of mindlessly walking along trails and missing everything along the way. In this book Brown takes you beyond the "veneer" most other tracking guides cover. He helps you learn how to age tracks, identify the animal's sex, and read the animal's movements and emotions from the shapes and forms found around the track. Brown teaches through stories and experiences that brings tracking to life. This is in stark contrast to the dull didactic recitation of measurements and readings most other books provide. If you ever wondered if Native Americans could really track like the Apache in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the answer is here because Brown learnt everything he knows from an Apache Native American. Are you tired of returning from long hikes or camping trips only to feel that you somehow missed something? then get this book and welcome to Tom Brown's incredible world of adventure and discovery. Keep one thing in mind however, this book is only the beginning. It's up to you to decide how far along this path you want to walk.

One more thing to make it more usable...
This book is great and very informative, however the only thing I would change (perhaps for a second edition) would be to make it spiral bound so it could lay flat while I am using it at work, which would also make it easier to photocopy the different checklists (very helpful!).

Most elaborate book
This is one of the best books ive ever read from any category. The author's flow from chapter to chapter is excellent. He describes in very good detail the pitfalls that many websites fall into by sacrificing appearance for usability. He makes his convincing case why the central focus of websites should be usability which is indeed rarely emphasized. The book elaborates as to the various stages you should involve users and various members of your design team into your development. Definately a keeper.

The best book for web usability..!
Unlike Jakob Nielsen who uses his personal opinion to judge web usability, Tom provides excellent explanation every aspect of usability based on the scientific research. This is the best book to learn and know about web usability. - LT
