just right-
Rexroth's brilliant translations, though at times very liberal, do much better at expressing the real meat of each poem than do more traditional, academic translations steeped in dated language. His other translated collections of Japanese, Chinese, French, Spanish, and Greek poetry are equally beautiful. It should be noted, though, that "Marichiko" was in fact a pen name. In his later years, "Marichiko" was an experiment on Rexroth's part to write completely separated from himself as a central figure, switching culture, gender, and language - and then writing poetry from that new perspective. It wasn't until after his death that it even became clear the two were in fact the same person.

SUBLIME EROTICISM -- A MUST READ
Rexroth must be praised for two reasons. One: his translations are razor sharp (in the Japanese style), yet retain all the profundity and the humanity of the poem. And two: the selections are excellent. For all poetry lovers, and indeed for all poetry non-lovers, this is THE collection. You can't go wrong with Rexroth.

Marichiko
Kenneth Rexroth's Japanese poem selections caused a great commotion within myself. Never had such words stir so much emotions within me. As a result, I am able to relate to better with my girlfriend. These selections caught the true essense of love and lost of love.

Marichiko's, a writer of various poems displayed, poems piqued my interest. Her poems were... are indeed intense in nature. I am desire so much to possess her complete works.

An Authority on the subject
Rexroth was first introduced to me by my high school teacher while we were studying Chinese literature. At first, I couldn't quite understand what was so great about Chinese poems, why Li Po and Tu Fu, and many others are so greatly admired. After this, I've come to a much better understanding of Chinese literature in general, and a much greater love for it. I recommend this book to anyone.

Well, actually, this is CHINESE poetry.
Well, actually, this is CHINESE poetry. Really excellent translation. Rexroth was a great American poet, and ground breaker as a translator of both Chinese and Japanese poetry, and all his work is still worth reading.

XLNT resource for Christians, especially home educators
101 More Hymns provides not only the histories of by-gone hymn authors and composers. It provides the complete sheet music. Some of these hymns are not found in the current hymn books. This is an excellent resource for anyone interested in older hymns and hymn histories. My children highly recommend this book as does as their mother.

Brilliant companion to the first volume
Rexroth scores again in this second "Classics Revisited" volume. The books he loved -- the classics of the non-Western and the Western world -- he saw as emanations of living feeling, lines of communication miraculously kept open.

Rexroth wrote in the first volume: "Life may not be optimistic, but it certainly is comic, and the greatest literature present man wearing the two conventional masks; the grinning and the weeping faces that decorate theatre prosceniums. What is the face behind the mask? Just a human face -- yours or mine. That is the irony of it all -- the irony that distinguishes great literature -- it is all so ordinary."

(By the way: These essays are such that one can read volume two before volume one.)

Another Powerful Parable
If the authors are right about how they defined 'empowerment' and the three essential keys for achieving true empowerment, then leaders, managers, and employees of all organizations should read, discuss, and decide to apply this easy-to-read book's lessons. I am convinced this book has the potential to lead organizations to unheard of levels of effectiveness and productivity.

In typical Ken Blanchard fashion, the authors taught their important lessons through a logical and believable fictional story based on their years of research and experience. The story "guides readers step-by-step through one manager's struggle to discover the three essential keys to empowerment. By following the manager's odyssey to the Land of Empowerment, readers discover that they can take the same journey, which, like any heroic journey, is filled with paradox, challenge, and fitful stops and starts."

The authors defined empowerment as not giving power to people, but releasing the knowledge, experience, and motivation they already have. They then identified and explained the three essential keys for achieving true empowerment:
1.Share information with everyone
2.Create autonomy through boundaries
3.Replace hierarchical thinking with self-managed teams
These simple definitions are deceptively powerful when teamed with patience and persistence. I found the title of this book was most appropriate.

From my experience, the term 'empowerment' is frequently spoken, largely misunderstood, and rarely applied to its maximum extent. This book took the mystery out of the concept of empowerment and left me with a great appreciation for what true empowerment is and how it can be achieved. I am excited about what it could release in me and others who read it.

Highly Recommended!
The author of The One Minute Manager switches gears and tells you not to manage your employees minute-by-minute. Instead, Ken Blanchard, along with John P. Carlos, and Alan Randolph, advocates and explains the notion of empowerment - giving your employees the information and authority to act and make decisions on their own, within a structured set of organizational goals and values. Presented as the story of a turnaround manager getting tutored by an empowerment mentor, the book establishes the fundamentals of the (now ubiquitous) theory of empowerment in a conversational and enjoyable style. We [...] recommend this quick, informative read, which will expand your management horizons in only a few short minutes.

Easy to read and put into practice.
If you are a new manager or a manager with outdated skills, this novel little book will have an absolutely positive impact if you follow the simple three keys to success. The book is based on a story of a real or contrived (who knows) manager and his adventure in discovering the importance of empowerment and why his technics have failed with his employees. Within the first week of reading this book, I used one of the exercises that was recommended. This simple exercise showed me that my employees are infact on track to becoming empowered. If your employees are struggling to complete everyday work because of a motivational problem instead of an ability problem, this book will show you how to get your team to respond. After you read this book, you may discover that the problem is supervisory and not employee related. However, this read gave me ideas of how to correct both!

Misleading title - these recipes are far from low-fat
Although the recipes in this book look like they are tasty, if you analize each recipe you'll see that they are far from low-fat. The serving sizes are very often miniscule in size and the fat calories are usually up around 50+ per serving.

Examples: Pecan and Red Onion Bread (page 70) serving size 1/2 slice, calories 130, calories from fat 45

Almond Fish Fillets (page 221) Serving size 4 oz. (equal to a deck of playing cards), calories 185, calories from fat 81

Grilled Italian Pork Chops (page 231) Serving size 1 chop, calories 166, calories from fat 90!

One-Dish Oriental Chicken and Rice (page 239), Serving size 4 oz meat + 1 cup rice and vegetables, Calories 339, calories from fat 63

Picadillo Rolls (page 242) serving size ONE ROLL, Calories 299, calories from fat 117!

Salmon Florentine (page 245) serving size 8 oz, calories 301, calories from fat 117

Hidden Valley (R) Club Salad (page 137) Serving size 2 cups, Calories 267, calories from fat 126

Remember that a 4 oz. piece of meat is the size of a deck of playing cards. Yes, there are a few recipes in the book that I would consider low-fat, but the majority are not. As any calorie counter, like myself, knows, the amount of fat per serving on the above examples are often a whole days allowance!

I highly recommend you not purchase this book, but search for a truly low-fat cookbook. This one is great for an everyday meal, but certainly not for those who wish to lose weight.

Don't Overlook This Book!!!
This is by far the best book of low fat recipes I have ever used (and I have used many!!!) I have made at least 90 recipes and they were very quick and easy. Nutritional information makes it easy to fit into any eating routine, so you always know where you stand. I have even tried some of these out on family and friends without telling them they were eating low fat and they still don't know- they loved it. Try this book - you will not be sorry.!!

Volume 2 of my Healthy Cooking Bibles
I bought this book after buying All-American Low-Fat and No-Fat Recipes by the same author. I am happy to say the results are just as delicious!!There are so many great recipes in this book. Some of my favoirtes are Chicken Breasts Stuffed with Veggies and Cheese, Pizza Cups, Cheeseburger Pie, and the Veg-All Seven Vegetable Mushroom Rice. The book is light on desserts, but on the up side there is an extensive salad and bread section. This book is invaluable to anyone with a busy lifestyle where a quck meal is essential and a healthy meal is desired. Well worth the cost!

Do-It-Yourself Advertising and Promotion : How to Produce Great Ads, Brochures, Catalogs, Direct Mail, Web Sites, and More!

I Like the Systematic Approach
Like many of us running small businesses, I have no choice but to come up with ads, brochures, press releases, etc. myself. This book gives me a systematic way of doing so, and I credit it with saving me a lot of money in missteps. If you follow the guidelines and checklists carefully, you will probably produce advertising and promotional material that at the very least avoids being amateurish, and will probably sell some products. I like that it concisely gives an overview over each of the areas of advertising and promotion. It explains insider terms without being condescending. Any Gripes? If I could afford the "test" runs of 5000 mailing pieces before I made my "real" mailing of many times that, I wouldn't be reading this book now would I?! But I am probably making excuses for not following their advice on testing advertising, and would be better off if I followed it. The book has been a great help in building my business, and I consult it frequently.

Very good for the novice
This book holds your hand every step of the way, The information is well presented and helpful.
