Straight to the Heart
Scripture tells us time and again that we're a forgetful people. It's with this premise that Gary Henry presents a devotional for each day of the year to seek after God. He by-passes writing on extraneous Religious rituals/details and cuts right to the heart of the matter. Hence, the title, Diligently Seeking God.

Each devotion is preceded with a scripture verse, and concludes with a passage from some of the great spiritual writers of the past, as well as the present (E. M. Bounds, Nouwen, Merton, Thomas A Kempis, Francois Fenelon, Brother Lawrence, etc.).
Henry uses the pillars of faith and trust to explore our relationship with God, and expounds from there.

This isn't "light fluff" reading, like so many contemporary evangelical books these days, but rather, very much in the tradition of Oswald Chambers. Since this is the case, each page often requires a day of reflection to meditate and act on.

A very solid and meaty devotional, we're fortunate Henry will be following it up in the future with more of the same.

Wisdom-dense and worthwhile
Daily devotional books are often superficial, but in "Diligently Seeking God," the reader is in for a strong intellectual and spiritual challenge. The format is definitely appropriate; this material should be taken in short, digestible doses. The thought-provoking richness of the 366 essays is reminiscent of the wisdom-dense writings of C.S. Lewis.

The writing style is straightforward, free of the "churchy" expressions that tend to obscure material of this genre. Each lesson could have easily be expanded into a memorable Sunday morning sermon, and the quotes added at the end of each lesson are appropriate and surprising in their variety.

Powerful devotional guide -- but dangerous reading
Diligently Seeking God is a wonderful devotional guide. This book offers a complete year of meditations that will help you look at the question "What difference does it make whether we seek God?" Each page explores our need for God and invites you to a deeper desire for Him. The style is comfortable but reverent, but be warned: it will make you think, reflect, meditate and take God more seriously. That is why I call this dangerous reading. One cannot read this material and be the same. It demands we consider who God really is and that always compels change. This book is a tremendous tool for those who want to take their relationship with God to a better and deeper level. I really like that each day's devotion just has a date (like "June 5" or "December 14"). That means you can pick up Diligently Seeking God at any time and just start - you don't have to wait till January 1. It also means you are never behind because each day's devotion and reading is independent of the others. This is a book that won't disappoint you. I am anxious to spend an entire year with Diligently Seeking God.

Art with great results!
Teachers and parents, don't miss this art resource for your kids! The author has done a wonderful job of compiling a variety of activities using a variety of materials, at a range of skill levels. I have completed a few of these projects with students aged 6-16, and they have turned out great. The materials are easily obtained, the projects generally uncomplicated, and the instructions clearly illustrated and easy to follow.

Projects include designs and pictures made with paint, glue, string, sand, cut-out paper shapes, markers, foil, beans, macaroni, glitter, plants, fabric. Techniques include drawing, experimenting with shape, line, texture and color, contrasting shapes and colors, stamping, splatter and spin, weaving, shadowboxes, 3-D sculptures of various materials, crayon resist, sponge painting. Not only can all these projects keep your kids being creative, they really turn out attractive. I have several art books for children by this same publisher and they are all excellent.

Kids Art Works
Fabulous and fantastic!!! I teach K-8 at a Catholic school and this book is an invaluable resource. The projects are incredibly fun and easy to understand ( with step-by-step instructions and illustrations also rated with a level for different ages and abilites) and at the same time very educational in teaching color, design, and texture.

This one has a Map!
"More Forgotten Towns..." is no cheap knock off of the 1st one. At over 300 pages, it doesnt repeat or rehash a single town of the first book (as far as I can tell). Again, there are many good stories here, from the 'Blue Hole' to 'Old Fort Billings' to numerous old towns that came and went with the businesses that were built upon them (be it mills or glass blowing factories) and finally to the Forked River Mountains.
If you at all enjoyed or were interested in the first, you won't be dissapointed in this one.
Highly recommended!

One of the best books on South Jersey history and folklore.
This book is the companion volume to the original "Forgotten Towns of Southern New Jersey". If you own one of them, you must own the other. Excellent for discovering how things used to be (and still are, in some cases). If you live in NJ, and love local history, you need to buy this book.

A really enjoyable read
I was hooked on Hank's book from the first few pages. I am seriously into genealogy and always believed there was a higher power that led me to information I would never have found any other way.

The naysayers can say whatever they want but there is no "logical" explanation that can explain how people found long sought for, critical information for their genealogical research by having a book come off the shelf and land on the floor to the page containing that information or how they picked up a book that they didn't give a second thought to and opened up the page to where the information was.

I had loads of fun reading this and highly recommend this book to people who think how they found some information was "strange."

Extremely interesting and thought provoking
I have never been into genealogy, but this book gave me a lot of thoughts about odd things that have happended to me over the years. Many times I just thought they were "Meer Coincidences", now I am truly wondering if there was not more involved. This book was loaned to me by a friend who is very "into genealogy research". I thought that this was not my type reading material, but I did not want to offend her. Once I picked the book up and started reading, I could not put it down !!

This author built London's famous Lions in Trafalgar Square
Henry Burcill, the author of Hand Shadows, was my great-great-grandfather. He was a sculptor by trade and his statues stand in London to this day. The most famous of these are the four great lions in Trafalgar Square, which he created with Sir Edwin Landseer. Written in an era when people lived by candle-light and gas lamp - hand shadowing was a popular entertainment. Henry Burcill's Hand Shadow books are treasures from a bygone age. I hope they never go out of print.

Prose which still affects our thinking
Literature before James Joyce, before Jane Austen, before Daniel Defoe: No Ulysses, no Emma, no Robinson Crusoe - for modern readers it is hard to imagine a stock of English literature without the existence of these and other important writers and their 'novels'. What kind of literature could one refer to in a pre-novelistic age? As a matter of fact, there were authors, such as Sir Thomas More and Sir Francis Bacon, who wrote prose which, indeed, still affects our thinking. However, neither More nor Bacon used English, but chose Latin as their original means of expression. For what reasons? And none of these authors was in fact a free-lance writer - they were all occupied in public and political spheres. What made them actually write fictional works? How does their fiction relate to their cultural environment - or, what was regarded as 'fiction'? These texts cover a century of political, religious, scientific and literary debates and gave rise to a new understanding of knowledge, and introduced influential literary devices.

This is a Life-Changing Book
I was a bit of a skeptic when I first began reading Pr. Wright's book. It sounded a little wacky to hear that the sin in our lives can make us sick. By the end of the book, I was a believer! He demonstrates how the Bible clearly shows that God cannot tolerate unconfessed sin and that there are consequences for our sin, even after we trust Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Sanctification is the goal of Pr. Wright's ministry and it is now my personal goal as well. My husband and I have both been healed through applying the principles of this book to our lives. If you read and apply this book to your life, you will experience the peace, love and joy of God like you never have before!

Candida, food allergies and Rosacea gone
A friend called to tell me about the book, she said I had to buy it. I did and it changed my life. I never knew there could be reasons that I was not healed. I love God and had been prayed for many times. For 4 years I have dealt with Candida, food allergies and Rosacea. I have been on a strict diet and tried many ways to be healed. This book has saved my life. I think everyone reading this book will receive something different from it. It will depend on why your reading it and how honest you can be with yourself. The author just tells you the truth, you can do what you want with it. I did not read it from a theological perspective, I read it as one looking for answers in my own life. I needed help and I found it, from someone honest enough to tell me the truth.

A More Excellent Way
This book has helped me put together the pieces of the puzzle of the Christian life . Every person needs a working knowledge of the things taught here . I personally have been set free from tormenting sin through this ministry . I've come to a place , through these insights from God's Word , where I'm confident that we can appropriate Gods healing and deliverance . If healing , or deliverance are not obtained after ministry , simply work through the " Blocks to healing " list . Gods will IS that we have perfect health , but we must line up with Gods Word to appropriate it . I've been convinced of the authority that I've been given through Christ , to minister healing and deliverance . This book provides a working reference for ministering to the sick , and or oppressed . I carry it everywhere , along with my Bible . It is the best book I've ever read , except for the Bible , of course .
Pastor Henry Wright , and all the pastors , and ministers at Pleasant Valley Church are ministering to thousands who come from all over the world to be healed and delivered , and to learn to do the same for others . They work long hours , and live very modestly . My wife and I spent a week with them , and I know .
The book , the pastor , and the church behind them are all the real deal ! I praise God for all of them , because His ministry through them to me has been instrumental in bringing the Kingdom of God to me and mine .

If you like Dahl...
If you like Dahl, you'll probably like this book a lot, but if not, you may not appreciate it. I thought that they were good stories in general if not incredibly well-written, but then again, I've just spent a month studying Faulkner. I've loved Roald Dahl since I first began reading books on my own, and I think that's probably why I like this book so much. The best stories in this book are (IMO) without a doubt Henry Sugar and The Hitchiker b/c I think they're the most interesting and creative. I read it once when I was really young just because it was by Roald Dahl, but I don't think I understood all of the stories, especially The Swan. I would recommend it for older children and adults.

Delightful Stories by the Exciting Author Roald Dahl
Contains: THE BOY WHO TALKED WITH ANIMALS A wierd tale about a boy who decides to run away on a giant sea turtle. I gave away the end, but you'll have to read the well-written middle. THE HITCHHIKER The short tale of a fingersmith ( talented pickpocket ). THE SWAN A dramatic story of an intelligent, unconquerable young boy and the child thugs who terrorize him. THE MILDENHALL TREASURE From the back of the book:"A true tale of a fortune found and an opportunity lost." THE WONDERFUL STORY OF HENRY SUGAR Tells of the deep, Indian ( that is, from India ) secret: how to activate the senses without their instrument functioning ( i.e., to see without eyes, smell without the nose, hear without the ears, etc. ), and of the two people, Imhrat Khan and Henry Sugar, who dared to use it improperly. LUCKY BREAK-HOW I BECAME A WRITER Exactly what the title says. Includes some interesting characters we didn't see from "BOY" and some other great moments. PIECE OF CAKE FIRST STORY-1942 A poorly written story about the author's accident as a RAF fighter that changed his life. Then again, it was his first story, so I shouldn't be so critical.

The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar, a review by Purna Shah

Lookin for a good book while browsing through the bookstore? Pick up this. I know that you'll read one sentence and then you'll be hooked on it through the entire two hundred something pages. It is a Dahl masterpiece. Dahl is my favorite writer of all time, but this is his best. Dahl is a unboring classical writer, even though he hasn't been elected as one.

I have read all of his books and short stories (except for the out of print ones) and they are the best. Even his adult ones I've read. But this, as I said, is the best. It is my prized posession. The only problem is that my copy is not a hardcover. Seven stories, with the style of a writer who has been wishing at a genie to be the best writer ever. The stories are: THE BOY WHO TALKED WITH ANIMALS, THE HITCHHIKER, THE SWAN, THE MILDENHALL TREASURE, THE WONDERFUL STORY OF HENRY SUGAR, LUCKY BREAK: HOW I BECAME A WRITER, and A PIECE OF CAKE. You must buy a copy of this!
