Read this book
My dad read this book out loud to me at bedtime. Gobbolino wants to become a nice kitchen cat and his sister Sootica wants to be a mean and clever witch's cat. This book is exciting and I liked the ending. The story is always nice and nothing bad happens to Gobbolino, and if he gets hurt he always gets out of trouble. And he can blow sparks out of his whiskers (he does it to make the children laugh but it gets him in trouble with the grown ups).

wonderful writing, unpredictable and original
Very enjoyable adventure from beginning to end of a witch's cat who wants to be a kitchen cat. Gobbolino's adventures on his way to becoming a kitchen cat. A wonderful story to read aloud to the children.

Gobble up Gobbolino
Reading Gobbolino to my 7 year old has opened up a whole field of fantasy to both of us. Although the language at times needed to be explaned to a seven year old, each chapter was eagerly anticipated. Even as a bed time story it was both suitable and highly original.

Read it (if you can)

Family Favorite
The Horn Book review states this is no match for contemporary Christmas stories, but our family would very much disagree. This story transports one into a magical, old fashioned world that circumscribes todays commercialism. The verse is beautiful and leaves one with an emotional glow. We love The Polar Express, but The Good Little Christmas Tree is our family favorite!

Malkin's Mountain
Wonderfully imaginative, this book was read by me again and again about 20 years ago. I recently looked it up and discovered it was written by the same author as "Bogwoppit" - these were the two books that stood out in my mind for all these years. The story is of a community on a mountain side and, of course, the main character saves the day! Beautifully written and in my hard back version - which I still have in England - beautiful illustrations.

A great, great story
My five year old son and I were spell bound from beginning to end of this wonderfully written story. The plot harkens back to a simpler time but is full of amazing twists and turns and a cast of well drawn and varied characters. If you believe that "they don't make 'em like they used to, utilize the out of print book find service and grab this one

A Haunting, Beautiful Tale
Niclo and Danny are two children who live on a mountain (perhaps somewhere in the Alps), with their parents and baby brother. Life for them is simple, predictable -- the only danger is being carried away by the eagles to the valley on the other side of the mountain. Until one day, a child is carried over, from the valley, and plopped right into their laps. She is Marta, and she is the Toymaker's daughter . . .

What follows is a story of one little girl's journey to escape her past, to grow the heart of a real child, and to find a place with a family who truly loves her. She does not ever want to go home again. This book is quaint and comforting, mysterious and delightful. A truly hidden treasure that everyone should discover.

A wonderful adventure!
This is a bizarre and humorous adventure! It's the story of a rebellious orphan girl sent to live with a cranky, eccentric aunt, against both their wills. In the aunt's garden live strange and rare little animals called Bogwoppits. The girl befriends one, even as her aunt is trying to exterminate them.

The book is filled with moments of intense horror, hilarious humor, and unexpected plot twists. Worth reading!

Great For Kids
I remember reading this book when I was a child. My parents spent many years trying to get if for me, but as it was no longer printed I was out of luck. Now I can read it to my children, the story is as good today as it was then.

A childhood favorite
I read this book years ago when I was around 9. I instantly loved it and it has stuck in my memory for over 20 years. I recently looked it up again at the library and read it again. I fell in love with the story all over again. This is a must for my own childs library. It is a perfect book for an adventureous, animal-loving child with a strong sense of right and wrong.
