The best counting book ever!
This book is wonderful! The pictures are very colorful and peaceful to look at. Just as important, the flow and rhythm of the book is amazingly catching. I have had the entire book memorized for years, and that is without even trying.

I loved the book at 5, and I still love it at 27. I had this book as a kid, and I give it to all my friends who have children.

If you know someone who is learning to count, or someone who is a child at heart, this is the perfect book for them!

Grew up loving this book!
My dad read this book to my sister and I when we were small. We loved it more than any other book out there! The rhymes and illustrations were superior. We all still remember each and every number and group of animals associated with the number. My sister has given this book as a baby gift for years, and now that she is having a baby of her own, she is planning on having the nursery designed with the adorable animals! It is a must read and really helps little kids enjoy both math and reading throughout life!!!

Adorable illustrations!
A bouncing rhyme book. The darling illustrations of Garth Williams enhance this simple counting book, which uses items on a farm to teach counting from 1 to 10. Old fashioned and darling!

Laura III review
This is a great little book of poetry that shows children the experience and reactions of different events. I thought the author did a good job showing the multicultural in the book. The poems were short and easy to read. This would give a child of younger age the freedom to read it without much difficulty. The author allowed the character to had situation where they could explore their own world around them. The poems also showed how special the family was to these characters and the special talent they processed. The illustration were very bright and cheerful. They allowed you to "smile" and feel good about reading the poems. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone.

Accessible poems for young children
This book sings! It is one of the best collections of poems I've come across for my seven year old. When I read this to her at night she doesn't want it to end (this is one of the first times I've been successful at reading poetry to her). I would recommend this book for all ages but the subject nature-based matter is particularly appropriate for young children. Not trite but accessible - "The sun's going down with a great hurrah, a gold ball sinking, staining the sky."

A great, ghostly pick
These fun, unobtrusive, not-so-spooky Halloween-type poems in sketchy formats with matching wonderful, humorous illustrations are sure to captivate the interest of any child. Try reading this one around a campfire for shivers of delight.

The Thing in the Pool
I enjoyed the original version Little Raccoon and the Thing in the Pool when I was a little kid, but this book is even better. It deals with little Raccoon's journey to the pool after his mother told him to bring some crayfish for supper. So he goes to the pool and sees himself reflected in the water. He is scared and comes home without the supper, but later on he goes back, gets the crayfish and the book gets its happy end. A great book for every kid up to 5 years.

Little Raccoon's Nighttime Adventure
I learned to read from this book and it has been my favorite children's book ever since. It is the story of a little raccoon who is given the responsibility of bringing home dinner for his family. He goes to the pond to gather cray fish when he sees something scary in the water and he is afraid to reach into the water. Through the story he encounters many other animals who give him suggestions of how to deal with the thing in the water.

A Grandma's Favorite
My own children enjoyed the original version Little Raccon and the Thing in the Pool. My granddaughter loved the newer version, Little Raccoon's Nighttime Adventure. When you read to a child, you're sure to get to do it over and over. There are few books that don't become tedious with repetition, and this is one of them. It was such fun to watch the light of understanding come on in each child's eyes as they realized that little raccoon had been afraid of his own reflection. The gentle, underlying message is that we often fear what we don't understand and that it's better to face the unknown with a smile than a scowl. This is a book with a good "so what," written in such a way that children can draw the conclusion themselves.jdk@acc-net.com

A Fun Day on Juniper St
This book was a favorite at our house for quite a long time. It's still one of my favorites. The stories are just the right length for bedtime reading, and you can fit in two if you feel like it. It's hard to say which short story is my favorite. Probably the one of the little old couple who fix up their house to sell and find that they are actually living in the house they've been wanting!

An OK book
"I'll Meet You At The Cucumbers" was about mice and they had a cool adventure to the city. It had a very good ending.

I'll meet you at the Cucumbers
I liked I'll Meet you at the Cucumbers because it was a good book and I liked it because it has animals in it. The mice find apples and eat the apples and it was Amanda's birthday. If you like adventure books, this is a good book for you.

Spooky Rhymes and Riddles
Spooky Rhymes and Riddles by Lilian Moore is a good book for children between the ages of three and seven because of its short excerpts and simple wording. The book lends itself well to be read aloud to children for Halloween time. To add to the short rhymes and riddles, small illustrations are added for a little bit of visual appeal. The book is illustrated by Ib Ohlsson who uses primarily orange and black for his drawings. This book is themed to make Halloween a fun holiday for children, in which the colors of the illustrations are a continuation of this theme. It is published by Scholastic and is an easy reader for children who are just learning how to read. This is a good book for young children, and a good book to read aloud to a group of children.

Book is really for kids
When I purchased this book, I thought that it would be a serious book about the cultural cstoms practiced by western culturs during the last century, but upon furher investigation I found that it was a children's book. Please don't be fooled by the academic title like I was.
