THIS ONE'S A KEEPER!
This is the first book I read of Susan King's and I must say that I'm thrilled with this author's way of story telling that keeps you glued to the tale until the last page.

From the first page, you would be gripped by the excitement and suspense and the imminent danger threatening Mhairi, her brother Iain and the hero, Rowan Scott. This is a relentlessly fast paced tale with twists and turns, danger and romance with no frivolity common in other romances.

Highly recommended to readers who love a "more" serious kind of romance.

Mystical and lyrical!
Susan King is a real voice in historical romance. I loved this book, and found it compelling. She is on my "A" list of authors!

If you love Scottish historical romances - this is a must!
Susan King has a wonderful touch! She takes you to Scotland in this book and makes you believe that you can really feel the cold wind, and see the mist on the ground. Mhairi and Rowan are characters that you will never forget as they discover a love that makes you smile and sometimes makes your heart ache a little bit.

Besides the wonderful storyline, it is also refreshing to have injuries that actually cause the characters pain and a little healing time. However, by far the best part about this novel is the incredible realistic and accurate Scottish history that you learn without even realizing it!! You will really enjoy this tale!

Enlightening and Insightful
The authors of these essays explore their bodies as Buddhists and women, giving personal accounts of the pain, enjoyment and acceptance they have experienced in relation to their bodies. I found myself moved by the intimate tone, with some authors taking pages straight from their own journals. I wonderful read for anyone, male or female, who is engaged by Buddhism, spiriutality and their own notion of embodiment.

Wonderful insights
The essays in this book explore the seeming dichotomy of having a (female) body and having a Buddhist practice. I found Susan Moon's thoughts on the body and loneliness especially insightful: "I don't want it (the body) to be my pimp, to send it out looking for people to bring home to love me." I don't think you need to be a Buddhist or a woman to appreciate the honesty and wisdom in these essays.

Long Before Harry Potter . . . .there were magical places
I read both Hunt Down the Prize and Knee Deep in Thunder when I was in the sixth grade . . . that was 1978. I am now 34 and still love those books and recommend them to everyone who appreciates a wonderful story. I recently completed the Harry Potter series, and any child or adult who loves the magical world of Harry, Hogwarts, and crew, will want both of these titles to become part of their personal collection. The stories are timeless and imaginative and a "must read" for anyone who enjoys good literature

2 kids take a night walk & end up in a world they must save.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It incorporated Navajo mythology with an elaborate journey. Maris and Jetty travel to a world where animals can talk. They meet many animal friends, including vultures, beetles, birds, and amphibians. Terrible creatures, called Beasts, are causing a blight, which is killing many creatures. They must join together with many unusual animals to save the Great Land and the Old Ones.

must have
as a student still learning the ropes this book can help out a lot! I think all the details make everything clear. for example, how to write a precise lesson plan... when you look at the book for their criteria you can clearly see what your own goals and objectives are missing. of course, there are a ton of topics discussed. you will be glad to have it in your collection.

Student review
As a student in a speech and language undergraduate program, I found this book to be a useful tool in many aspects. The author presents the material in a comprehensive manner. I found it to be very useful in a clinical setting as well. It offered different ways of writing professional reports and progress notes. I also found it helpful when the author used examples throughout the book. This was very useful in applying the author's suggestions into my professional career. I highly recommend this book to any beginning clinician. It is an excellent reference book that every beginning clinician absolutely must have.

A must in any Jewish woman's library.
Susan Berrin has included a clear, readable explanation of the origins of Rosh Chodesh, information on how to start up a Rosh Chodesh women's group, readings and poetry about Rosh Chodesh, and a list of sources for more information. I think every Jewish woman would want to include this in her personal library and also add it to her synagogue's library.

Learn where the saying "once in a blue Moon" comes from
Susan Tooke's museum quality paintings perfectly showcase Joanne Taylor's gentle, lyrical story explaining all of the phases of the moon and how time is measured by them in Full Moon Rising. Young readers ages 5 to 8 will learn where the saying "once in a blue Moon" comes from along with many other stories from moon-based mythologies. Enthusiastically recommended for family, school, and community library picture book collections, Full Moon Rising is further enhanced with a list of names used for full moon's throughout the world, and which reflect the climate and seasonal activities of different cultures.

Susan Hauser makes you actually look forward to being fifty!
With her wise and witty stories, full of insight and the kind of understanding only time can bring, Susan Hauser takes us away from our cultural conditioning, our dread of getting older. When we have spent a gentle evening with this poetic gifted woman, listening to her tales of her own coming of age, we begin to listen to the quiet wisdom of our own hearts. We laugh too, when Susan at a garage sale picks up a dress that had once been hers and holds it up to her now ample body. "I was thin once, and I missed it," she says. Some of us are fifty now, and we don't want to miss it. Reading Full Moon at Fifty is a joy.

Potent and wonderful...
Emily of New Moon is starry, poignant, and captivating. Orphaned Emily Byrd Starr comes to New Moon lonely and friendless, to live with her Mother's relations, the Murrays.

The Murrays are not willing to take her in, but are proud and consider it their duty to bring Emily up, as she is a member of their clan. Her Aunt Elizabeth brings her the New Moon, and is cold and harsh and stern. But her sweet Aunt Laura, and kindly Cousin Jimmy provide Emily with support.

In Emily's imagination, loyal friends Ilse Burnley, Teddy Kent and Perry Miller, as well as her passionate love of writing, Emily finds hope and friendliness in her new World.

Emily is often compared to Anne of Green Gables, but they hold their differances. Anne is all liveliness and hot temper and sweetness; Emily is vivid, both light and dark, with enough mystery in her to allure.

This book is beautifully written and delicate, full of subtle wit and humour, and wonderful complexity as it describes Emily's adventures while living at New Moon. Emily is spirited and charming and ambitious, and the Emily series portray a unique child developing into womanhood.

Perfectly Wonderful
One day, while skimming the shelves of the Young Adult section of the Library, I ran across 3 books. I noticed that they were from the same Author of "Anne of GreenGables" and I had truly loved those books, so I decided to get these new, mysterious books that I had never heard of. "Emily of NewMoon" "Emily Climbs" and "Emily's Quest". I got home, jumped on my bed, and began reading. Looking up, I noticed I had finished 1/2 the book, and that a couple of hours had passed. I bought all 3 of them here, and I am SO happy that I did. I really don't know what more I can say, I just LOVE these books more than ANY possesion that I have. And that isn't a joke! They inspired me, and I have read EVERY other book of LLM's, but still, my favorites are the "Emily" series. I really hope that you buy this book, it's SO worth it. I read them over and over and over. and when I open the book, I know exactly where I am, and then I can't put it down! I LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM!

L. M. Montgomery's very best series...but not for young kids
And yes, like others have said, it's better than Anne.
The Emily series( New Moon, Emily Climbs, Emily's Quest) trace Emily Starr's voyage through adolescence to early adulthood.
It's probably best for older readers as it contains references to sexuality and the supernatural that may be inappropriate for kids or just not appreciated by the younger reader.
I've read almost everything by Montgomery that's published(except for two books), and this is, in my opinion, the best series. Anne of Green Gables is a tour de force of a book, but the series as a whole isn't that great. The Emily series is a sheer masterpiece that's not to be missed, especially for older readers. I read it when I was twelve and read the entire series every year.. it's better every time. Don't skip this one... trust me.

Filled with deep appreciation for daily intentional living.
Book Review: Warm Smiles from Cold Mountains, Dharma Talks on Zen Meditation by Reb Anderson

Have you ever wondered why so many Westerners are getting involved with the many facets of Buddhism? Have you ever wondered what's so different about it? Warm Smiles from Cold Mountains is a book that answers these questions in an easy to understand simplistic way. Through stories and his personal experiences, Reb Anderson gives us an opportunity to look at our journey with fresh eyes and different awarenesses. Warm Smiles is filled with deep appreciation for daily intentional living and being in each moment as it arrives.

Don't try to read this book like a novel; there's just too much there to ponder and you'll miss a great deal if you do. I believe you'll read it through once, perhaps twice then keep it handy for day to day use. One thing I do with inspirational books is to keep them next to my favorite chair and periodically just open to any page and read whatever is there. Often, if there's something troubling my mind or I'm attempting to sort out an issue, I'll just open to a page in a book of this type. As I read that page, I'll usually relax a bit, pay great attention to what I opened to and discover that all is solved and answers are given. This is a look into a mirror, take your time, allow it to resonate deep inside your Being, meditate with the pages of this book.

I want to thank Reb for giving me an opportunity to see that Buddhism creates no conflict with anything in my daily personal life or belief systems. I was particularly drawn to Chapter Eight, "Life Is Not Killed." What a delicious way of viewing life. I recommend you check it out for yourself; it truly creates "warm smiles."

A great help for ordinary people
I want to caution that this book is not exactly easy. It requires a little deep reading and thinking and it's not a beginner's book. It's a real help however to ordinary people like myself who live in the suburbs and try to practice Buddhism. Even though the author seems to have been a monk most of his life. The reason it is a help is that it presents an American background and understanding to the teachings of Suzuki Roshi (Zen Mind Beginner's Mind) which are often sort of alien and incomprehensible in the original. The book is also very warm like the smiles. To get some more insight into the title, you might want to check out Gary Snyder's Cold Mountain Poems, or the Burton Watson translation of Cold Mountain (Chinese Zen Poet Han Shan).

A book to help you live better.
I would like to start off by saying that you must read this book. Anyone who practices meditation will find this book rewarding--both seasoned practitioners and newcomers to the Buddhist path. The author has a special gift for relating the insights of traditional Zen teaching stories in a refreshingly contemporary manner. I felt like I was actually at the retreats as I read the stories. As mentioned elsewhere; Anderson, who teaches in the tradition of the great Zen master Suzuki Roshi, shows himself to be a worthy inheritor of this lineage and a powerful teacher in his own right.
