Inspiring, Heartfelt and truly Funny
Leave it to David Lander to show you the funny side of a chronic condition. I read this book mainly on the subway to and from work and the passengers probably thought I was mad laughing at a book were the title contained the word "Multiple Sclerosis". If they only knew how he presented MS in this book, they'd be laughing too.

This book was better than I expected. Most biographies I read about people with illness starts in adult hood and doesn't really build up their character. David started in way before he became "Squiggy". I liked this approach because it made him seem more 'common' as opposed to the non-attainable celebrity type.

At the point in time I was yet undiagnosed with any illness. It turned out I had another illness, although the one I do have may develop into MS one day. This book made me feel better about whatever I was about to face.

It was real, heartfelt and honest. David is inspiring and sharing his story in the way he did makes him even more loveable. Thanks David.

Changed my whole outlook
The book came in on a Friday, I started it at 11 at night, finished it at 3 in the morning. I couldn't put it down. Being diagnosed in November with Ms, I've been depressed, moody, not sure what to look forward to. Now I've seen someone else with the same progression of symptoms, and I realized, it won't be too bad. I just have to remember that I can laugh at it. Squiggy did. I hope he reads these reviews every now and then, 'cause he really changed my whole outlook on the disease. Thanks David.

Finally, good humor!
Finally, a book that deals with MS that makes you laugh! I started reading this book recently during a bad MS flare-up. Although I thought I'd start feeling even worse for and about myself, David's candid humor was probably the best medicine I could've asked for!! Even though my husband's dealing with my MS (and the stresses of being a caregiver)and sees my daily struggles, he had some well-deserved and well-earned laughs from this book! Thanks, David - we MSers need some more comic like yours!!

On Strike for Respect: The Clerical and Technical Workers' Strike at Yale University, 1984-85

a wonderful book
Gilpin et al. aptly depict and identify what has made Yale's workers and the movement they have created so vibrant and strong. This book is all the more pertinent given last month's strike of all four unions.

A COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER
I had to read this book for a US Labor History course at the University of Colorado. It was absolutely incredible. The authors trace the events leading up to the strike but, more importantly, they describe how the community of New Haven came together in order to defeat "Corporate Yale." I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in labor history and the struggles faced by American workers.

The Life and Times of General Montgomery C. Meigs
David Miller deserves a great deal of credit for bringing
General Montgomery Meigs to life. Through his incredibly detailed work, the life and times of this gifted builder,
architect and general become chrystallized in the reader's mind.
The number of personal letters included in this volume are nothing short of remarkable. The inclusion of so many portions of personal letters from the mid-1800s allows the reader to share directly the thought processes of Meigs, his supporters and his detractors. The copious footnotes are outstanding as well. Not to mention the great photos.
In a sense, this is a textbook as well as a biographical work.
I am very impressed. Thank you,!!!
Signed, A distant relative of the Quartermaster General

Long overdue
This is an excellent biography of one of the most important -- although most overlooked and underrated -- members of the Union high command in the Civil War. Montgomery Meigs was, quite literally, second only to U. S. Grant in importance, in that he was the genius who kept the supplies moving up front. He also had outstanding pre- and post-war careers as engineer-architect. A most amazing (though not particularly attractive) man, whose life and works are splendidly described in a well-written, fascinating book. Civil War buffs owe Miller many thanks.

Teaches what other theory books teach, but adds color, games
For most students, anything that makes theory less boring is better as long as it covers what ought to be taught. This book teaches the same material as the other major theory books but is published in color and has a scattering of musical games, puzzles and stories besides the "normal" stuff. It does a better job of keeping my students interested. I would like to see more games in the first and primer levels and slightly more difficult rhythm drills throughout the series. I highly recommend the book.

Eisenhower Versus Montgomery
Published in Hardcover by Praeger Publishers (1996)
Author: G. E. Patrick Murray
Amazon base price: $72.95
Used price: $38.37
Average review score:

The controversy made clear.
"Let us have no part in the profitless quarrels in which other men will inevitably engage as to what country, what service, won the European war." Eisenhower's Victory Order of the Day, 8 May 1945.
The profitless quarrels emerged early, on both sides of the Pond, initiated by unscrupulous journalists and soon drawing in the principals, neither of whom welcomed the controversy. Murray carefully and effectively traces the newspaper stories, memoirs, and official histories to clarify the nature of Ike's and Monty's strategic and tactical disagreements, and to reveal the sources of the ethnocentric axe-grinding which marred the victory, and provides employment for unprincipled muck-stirrers to this day, to the detriment of Anglo-American unity. Professor Murray has been kind enough not to name them, but they know who they are.
"Extremists on both sides of the water can indulge in all the backbiting and name-calling that they please - they can never get away from the historical truth that the United States and the British Empire, working together, did a job that looked almost impossible at the time it was undertaken". (Eisenhower).

Beautiful photos and well organized book.
This is a book that Martha Stewart would be proud of. The photos are beautiful, and the book is well organized. It's great for beginners as well as those with higher skill levels, but, most importantly, it tells you HOW to make each project. You are given the needle size, color, and fabric and instructions on finishing. The projects are beautiful to make and doesn't give you the "granny" projects that some books have.

New Jersey Ferns and Fern-Allies
Published in Hardcover by Rutgers University Press (1992)
Authors: James D. Montgomery and David E. Fairbrothers
Amazon base price: $50.00
Average review score:

Great maps, good descriptions
This book covers every species of fern (and clubmoss and horsetail, that sort of thing) reported in New Jersey, with excellent maps showing exactly where. It also includes good pictures, brief descriptions of each species, range and habitat and lots of interesting comments. Great for finding out what might be in a given area, not as good for identifying a specific sample. Still, I really enjoyed it.

Worth every penny!
Being somewhat new to the art of scent blending, I found this to be particularly useful. There are some really lovely scent blends included with an in-depth aromatherapy guide to each of the 18 essential oils used for the various recipes. Being not so new to handmade skin care I still found this book useful since the author presents typical things like bath salts in not-so-typical ways. The photography is gorgeous and inspiring. When I have absolutley no buyers remorse I give a book 5 stars - this gets 5!

Sweet
This is a wonderful companion book to the Anne of Green Gables series. This treasury book will entertain kids and adult-kids with recipes, crafts, information on Green Gables, quotes from the books and illustrations. I gave this book as a gift to my 25 year old friend and she has really enjoyed it.

must have for anne fans
This book is truly a treasure for all Anne of Green Gables fans. It has everything from information about L.M. Montgomery, to historical notes, ideas for tea parties and Anne-type crafts to a map of Green Gables and a detailed illustration of the interior of Anne's Green Gables.

A must-read for any Anne fans
Just like the companion books to the Little House series, you'll love this collection of interesting facts, recipes, and projects that make re-reading the Anne books even more rewarding. This book provides the perfect background for so many aspect's of Anne's life, from cooking to schooling to gathering wildflowers. It's a wonderful read for girls just getting into the series as well as us 'old folks' who discovered L.M. Montgomery's magic years ago.
