The writer seems like a confused soul. He is restless to boot. He feels threatened by the western social system and its racial undertones yet feels attracted by its orderliness and economic prosperity. He comes back to Orissa in India only to be exasperated by its corruption and lack of order. But he is very appreciative of India's family and social mores. In the end he draws a picture of fraustration and confusion.
