My first Sunfire book-it was wonderful!
This was the first Sunfire book I have read and it was wonderful! It was about Jennie Brooks, a young, spirited girl who lives in 1889 Johnstown. Her Aunt, who is a telegraph operator in South Fork, is sick and needs someone to take her place. So they call Jennie up who knows morse code. When Jennie arrives at South Fork's train station her old friend Jim Hurst greets her. Jim obivously likes her but she isn't so kind to him. This got me really mad in the book. I felt like screaming, "Come on Jennie! Stop arguing with him, he's being really nice to you and you have to be really rude!" But most of the time I liked the character of Jennie Brooks. But a handsome reporter comes into the office. He calls Jennie a "boomer" girl and isn't that nice to Jennie but she's nicer to him than to Jim which kept getting me confused. Anyways Jim works for the fishing club for rich steel tycoons (Jennie is against the rich steel tycoons and thinks Jim is evil working for them). He is an engineer and works on the dam. But it's old and it may collapse at any time with all the rains. And that's just what happens. Jennie realizes that she is riding towards Johnstown on a wooden board on a huge wave. She sees houses torn apart that could be her friend's, aunt's, or even her own Mother's. Can Jennie survive this terrifying disaster that took so many lives? And if she does how can she live without anything afterwords? And can she pick between two men that love her (she doesn't really seem to love either through most of the book!)? I think to many people she knew survive, but at least some of them didn't. Though after all the comments I said, there are so many good points in the book! It's just great!

Great book of survival, history, adventure, and romance!
Jennie is visiting her aunt in Johnstown when the nearby South Fork Dam breaks and sends a wall of water heading toward the little town. Jennie must fight for her life and for the man she loves admist the raging flood. This is a great story of survival, history, adventure, and romance!

Why Do Some People Get Fat?

Not All Fat People are Jolly
I can not imagine a more sensitive approach to such a hard issue. The pictures are especially helpful in fighting the stereotypical images of fat people-especially the chubby squirel. And not only the pictures, but also the word choice, such as "fat". Claypool addresses the issue of being overweight with tact and humor. Thanks Jane! Our kids love this book and now they realize for the first time in their lives that all fat people are not jolly!

Malibu Summer

It was great!!!!
This book is great but don't get discourged by it's size. I read this book in 2 and a half days. It was that good. It's about this girl Amber who goes to Malibu for the summer. She dreams of meeting a handsom young man. She meets 4 and the one she least expected to like her likes her. She makes cool friends and goes to awsome parties. Makes tons of money.(the parents of the family just parcticly throws it at her) Besides what can get any better than a summer in Malibu!!!

Malibu Summer a great novel.
This book was wonderful I loved it. It was very well written and the way author decribed Ambers thoughts, and what was happing to her was wonderful. Amber has a summer that she will never forget and full of love. I recommended this book to many of my friends whom may not even read on their own time, but they read Malibu Summer and enjoyed as much has I did. I've also read other books by Jane Claypool Miner that gave the same effect that this book did on me. Her novels are very good.

"Malibu Summer",the book of sun, sand, and California loves.
The book "Malibu Summer" written by Jane Claypool Miner, was one of the most interesting and fun books I have ever read. I enjoyed this book so much I had trouble putting it down. Within hours I finished it. The book focuses mainly around a 16 year old girl named Amber and her adventures when she travels all the way to California to babysit a small child who needed to be looked after. The book made me feel like I was right there in California with her, enjoying the warm sand and the cool ocean breeze. There are three guys that Amber encounters on her trip and I found it really exciting to see if I could figure out which one of them she would end up falling in love with.If the male characters in the book where not ficticious I also believe I would fall in love with them through how the author described them. I especially adored the end, where there was a twist of irony. I love romance books and I believe this is the greatest romance book of all time. By just looking at the front and back cover of this book I was convinced it would be worthwhile to read, which it was. My friend also felt the same way and she bought the book also. I would definately recommend this book to teens of all ages because I loved reading it so much. And after reading this book that is exactly what I did. I told my friends about the book and they where as excited as I was to read it. I think that Jane Claypool Miner is a tremendous writer and I am really glad to have read her book because sincerely I don't think I have read such a great book in all of my life.

Corey (Sunfire, No 22)

Average review score:

Not the best one in the series
It may have just been the mood I was in while I was reading this book, but I felt it was one of the most boring Sunfires. That is disappointing, because it was a promising premise, and Corey was a strong heroine. However, she could not overcome the book's seemingly plodding pace. Unfortunate that such an exciting concept as a slave with new freedom couldn't have been well-executed.

It was one of the best books I have read.
Corey is a slave in the south during the civil war until she is freed. Corey goes up north to find freedom in Philedelphia, since she has no where else to go because she can't find her family. Corey then meets Penn Wilson, and is foced to choose between him and Ned (he was a slave on the plantation with her. Then he joined the Union army.) who wants her to go out west with him.

Great book!
Corey is a slave girl in the Civil War South. One day she makes a daring run for freedom. She reaches the North, and helps other freed slaves while searching for her mother. But Corey is in love with two men. One was a slave on the plantation she grew up on. Another is an African-American who was born free. Who will Corey choose?

Margaret (Sunfire, No 27)

A really good book
I really liked this book. I was surprised that the story seemed to move as well as it did, considering it's one of the shorter Sunfire books. (Did anyone else notice how the books got skinnier as the series went on?) The story was, for as much as a romance book can be, believable. Margaret is a great character and there was a nice twist with the usual two guys and a girl theme.

A 15-year-old teacher finds the life she wants.
I really like this book. It's about an 8th grade graduate went off to the wild Nebraska in the 1800's. Margaret was only 15 years old! i'm gonna be 15 soon too but i can't even think of going off in my own, left alone doing it! She had a hard time fitting in with the town, the house of the Principal which she was boarding and the one-room school. But she grows as the days pass and found love with her 18-year-old student.

Cool!
Margaret has come to the prairie to be a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse. But it's more then she bargained for. She must cope with disobediant students, a deadly epidemic, lonliness, a prairie fire, and choosing between two men who love her.

Winter Love, Winter Wishes
This book, was fun, moved at a fast paced, and never left the reader bored or dozing. It is amazing how well the author shows each character's point-of-view:

Brittany has always been overshadowed by her older sister Willow. But never more so, then when their mother opens a boarding house for college students in their home. Now Willow has a parade of older men following her around, which is ridiculous in Brittany's mind especially since Willow is only a junior in highschool (two years older than herself). But the Boarding house isn't the only place that Willow receives all the attention. Even at school Willow manages to steel the heart of Brittany's crush. To make things worse, Brittany's cousin Anne who is Willow's age comes down to live with them because of the better athletic program at their highschool, and she's not exactly the type of person that the two girls, or anyone would want to be seen with. . . anywhere. Soon, all three girls are in a race for the same guy. Of course two of them are about to be quite disappointed. Will Willow steal Larrs Peterson, the man of their dreams leaving Brittany and Anne in the dust? Perhaps Larrs will go for Brittany, who is a mere 4 years younger than him. . .Or maybe Larrs sees a special something in Anne that Willow and Brittany just missed under those awful clothes, and shoes? Read the book to find out.

Winter Love, Winter Wishes
This easy-reading novel is a 5-star book in my views!! I read it in a mere two days, because I could not stay away from it. If you are looking for an easy reader, that has a good plot, and an enjoyable ending, this is the book for you. It was well written, and VERY cute. The character variety was also a plus, because almost everyone could relate to one of the characters.

A great book of romance!
Winter Love, Winter Wishes is a great romance novel. It's about two sisters and their cousin who comes to stay with them. The sisters' mother is starting a boarding house, meaning lots of opportunities for trouble. I've got to admit, Willow and her sister Brittany are shallow, but still lovable. Anna was my favorite character. I could relate with her. It's not easy being in a new place, but she dealt with it well. The girls go through some tough times as far as romance is concerned. But in the end it all works out and each girl finds her Prince Charming.

Joanna (Sunfire, No 5)

Authors: Joan Claypool Miner and Jane Claypool Miner

Average review score:

Pretty ok
A little boring, but an intesting portrait of the mill workers of Lowell. Miner seems to be the most questionable author in the Sunfire series, she either scores a bullseye or misses completely.

Cool book!
Joanna has come to Lowell from her small New England village to work in a mill. But the mills are different from what she expected. The conditions are horrible. Will she stand with the other girls when they strike?
