Walking into the Wind, reviewed by ML Chandler
You won't put it down
What a wonderful, candid book! Barbra Goodyear Minar so transparently shares her experiences about living life in spite of dealing daily with chronic disease. Since I don't live with the challenge of a chronic disease or disability, I wasn't sure how the book would affect me. In truth, it is a refreshingly wonderful view of living a great life in spite of challenge. We all face challenges, living life as imperfect beings in an imperfect world. But we can, no we must, choose everyday to get up and move forward when we've been knocked down. It is our choice whether to live in joy with a positive attitude regardless of our circumstances. Barbra shares her journey, both the joy and the struggle, in a refreshing, candid manner that is encouraging and relatable. You can see how, despite her significant health challenges, her daily habits of walking with God, choosing joy, getting up when knocked down, going forward instead of playing the victim, have produced great fruit in her life. I have been encouraged to re-examine my attitudes and habits, to choose joy and be thankful despite any circumstance and to seek a closer walk with God. A great read!
Living Over the Circumstances
Barbra Minar's latest book will not disappoint those who have come to know and love her work. In Walking Into the Wind, she again shares her heart in every paragraph. Using her own journal entries and correspondence with friends, she reveals her day-by-day struggle as a wife and mother dealing with the effects of the disease that invaded her body on her honeymoon. Chapter after chapter we watch her achieve victory over the depression that often accompanies chronic illness. When my own daughter was diagnosed with the same condition, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, we found great comfort in the shining optimism of one who had been there. Chronic illness seems more widespread than ever, affecting friends, neighbors and members of our extended family. I'm grateful to this author for a book I can recommend to help and encourage them. Walking Into the Wind is an inspiring read for anyone, but especially one challenged by such an illness.

Exellent Book.
Barbara does an excellent job of identifying some of our unrealistic expectations. The book is easy to read and understand, and holds many profound truths. I would recommend it.

So helpful---Open and Honest
I checked out this review area to see if there were any comments here, and due to the fact that this book is out of print, I was not suprised to find that this shall be the first entry here. This book talks about loving those who you are closest to that are sometimes difficult to love. I found it very helpful and enjoyed the fact that the author was so open with her writing and experiences. Unfortunately, I do have (like many others) people who can be challenging at times in my life, and felt this book offered suggestions and guidelines to help grow through these difficult situations. I can't say that Everything is perfect since I read this 6 yrs. ago, but I can say that they are definetely much better given the tools that I took from this book.

Lamper's Meadow by Barbra Minar
I bought this book for my son who is 12; and he loves it so much
that he has read it 3 times. He won't even lend it to his sister
who is almost 11, because he is afraid she will loose or destroy it. (We are working on that heart attitude.) This is an allegory about spiritual warfare. My son says it is the best book he has ever read about this topic. His eyes are opened tremendously regarding the spiritual realm due to the story so beautifully woven by the author. I highly recommend it for all parents who want their children to understand more about
our struggle according to Ephesians 6:12.
