Starving Hearts
What an appropriate title! Susan was starving from deprivation of love. You won't want to put it down. In addition, it may help those suffering from anorexia and/or bulimia to understand their sickness (or saddness) and seek out the help they need to heal. I highly recommend this book to all ages.

Stunning novel
Starving Hearts is a visceral, powerful first novel about a woman who is consumed by food in every sense of the word. Susan Talberg's journey is told in stark and compelling language which immediately invites the reader into the story...and so we struggle, we cry, we rejoice, we mourn, and we triumph along with Susan as she fights to control her simultaneous attraction and revulsion toward food -- and a controlling mother who battles her own demons. Painful yet funny, sad yet hopeful, Starving Hearts is the kind of book that makes you want to seek out the author and hug her.

A powerful first novel
What a vivid account of life during a time when the general public knew little about eating disorders and abusive relationships! It makes me feel much more sympathetic towards people whose behavior appears strange. While it describes complex family and social environments with strong religious overtones, this book is also a gripping story - hard to put down and with a great mixture of humor, emotion and drama. A wonderful first novel - I'm looking forward to No.2!

For all who love the Babe
This is a wonberful book for all who are nostolgic for the time when there were genuine, larger than lfe sports heroes. This wonderful reflection on Babe Ruth includes numerous photyographs. It is not an in depth biography. Rather, it is an evocative collection of pictures and anecdotes that he;p us feel as though we were there when the Babe was in his prime. Great book!!!

a feminist adventure/mystery/romance
I loved this combination of an old-fashioned romance and modern feminist adventure story, especially the way the heroine was trasformed in the process.

My favorite cookbook
I love this book, and I'm about to order one for my daughter. I've used the book for over five years and have tried about half the recipes. All are consistently good and are quick and fairly simple.

Beautiful drawings, educational yet fun for little ones
My 2 1/2 year old really enjoys this book. I believe it isaimed at the 4 - 8 year old set, but even younger ones can appreciatethe colorful illustrations and the natural settings and wildlife. They learn a little about nature ("I saw a loon and heard its cry; a tiny hummingbird flew by"). It's very peaceful - perfect before bedtime or naps. And children enjoy the fact that the little boy can never spot the frogs that the reader can see (they're usually hidden behind a rock). My son loves the last page when the little boy says "I wondered if all the creatures would say, I saw a human being today." He likes for me to name several animals and people so that he can label them as human beings or not. I've read this book to my son twice a day for over a month now and I'm not sick of it, which is definitely worth 5 stars in my book!

A essential tool for teachers.
This is a book designed to take teachers into the domains of linguists and anthropologists. A series of essays, this volume provides a compilation of information garnered by researchers in these fields. The realm of this reader examines how language is developed in children and changes over time, and how we use it to communicate and learn. The text is organized into three parts: Historical Perspectives and Landmark Studies, Talk in Schools, and Sociocultural and Personal Perspectives. This book is a must for teachers.

A reading experience you won't forget
"I try to be a Maggie whenever I can." This is one of the sentences in this glorious collection of personal essays which will stay with the reader forever. To find out what it means to be a Maggie, sit down, pour yourself a cup of tea, and prepare to imbibe this wonderful collection of sometimes hilarious, sometimes sad, and always evocative stories culled from the event-filled life of the marvelously eccentric Lynn Ruth Miller. Each story is headed by, or ends with a quote. My favorite is from Eric Hoffer: "We're made kind by being kind." The reader senses that this is Lynn Ruth Miller's driving philosophy of life and certainly the author's humanity is evident in each of the quirky tales in "More Thoughts While Walking the Dog." Buy this book as a gift for friends--it's a reading experience they'll treasure.

Imaginary travels
Astounding, awesome, fantastic, incredible... there are only some of the adjectives that occurs to you while you see this book. Ruth Thorne-Thomsen is without doubt one of the best contemporary photographers, her imaginary landscapes don't have equal. If you like the millenarian ruins... imaginary landscapes... the disturbing beauty... the dreamed photographies...this is your book.

Again, one of the best photographers of the history. Few photographers can make feel the some Ruth makes you feel. An incomparable photographer. An incomparable book

Uneven, but worth reading
The concept rocks: write stories inspired by TV and movie heroes, but don't do it directly.

Much of the writing is equally good: obviously all these authors are excellent writers.

Some of the stories were compelling, some were mildly entertaining. None were awful.

However, this book is uneven. I have a hard time imagining that any one person would love all these stories. Some of the stories suffer from being so short, and others are just not that interesting.

I loved Moon Over Miranda and Mary Jo Putney's reworking of the King Arthur tale.

Five stars for concept and two of the stories. The other stories were all 3-star and 4-star in quality, so I'm averaging it all out to be four stars.

Fantastic! Done the way romance SHOULD be done!
Get a copy of this anthology while you still can. You will NOT be a bit disappointed. Ten novellas from talented authors whose stories are inspired by TV and Movie heroes. What a kick! Regency, Western, Contemporary, Futuristic... They're all very well represented here. Stories and characters that will make you smile for days to come. Don't be put off by the mix of genres. This confirms that when written well, romance stories are timeless.

Sure to please the cravings of any reader of romance
"In Our Dreams" is a unique collection of stories. While the authors use television/movie heroes as inspiration, they have managed to build on those images and make them uniquely their own. From Mary Jo Putney's twist on Arthurian legend to Courtney Henkes tongue-in-cheek take on mythic fantasy, I found myself eagerly turning the pages. This was a wonderful read with something to feed the romantic cravings of any reader. Whether your tastes run toward rugged Old West types or the cool elegance of the English Regency, there is something here for you.

A Gifted, Honest and Warm-hearted Writer.
Lynn Ruth Miller has the ability to weave magic with her words. She enchants her readers with a positive attitude along with a general joy in the very art of being. Lynn Ruth shares her wisdom in a manner that makes it accessible to all comers. Her look at life is realistic and yet full of hope. If there is a positive side to any situation, she will find it and help you to see it as well. Since reading her book, I find myself reaching for it whenever I am having a particularly difficult day or a sad moment. As I read her words and stories, the veil of melancholy lifts and a smile begins to spread across my lips. I urge anyone who occasionally needs to see the positive side of life in all its simple splendor to spend a bit of time with Lynn Ruth Miller. You will find it is a marvelous investmet.

Wonderfully funny and insightful
Thoughts While Walking the Dog is the kind of enchanting book you'll want to read several times and then keep close by, so that every now and again you can reread one or two of the essays and rejoice in the quirkiness and sad/funny wonders of life..and of Lynn Ruth Miller, an original in a world that badly needs originals. Who else but Lynn Ruth Miller could write the following (a clerk has just offered her a senior discount): "Now I know very well that true beauty resides in your heart and externals are so superficial that every intelligent person immediately ignores them. I firmly believe this WHEN I AM DISCUSSING SOMEONE ELSE." Women will chuckle and perhaps sometimes cry while reading this collection of straight-talking yet subtle renditions of life in our times. Miller is a writer who knows how to touch people's hearts -- and leave her mark on them forever. Highly recommended.

Thoughts While Walking the Dog
Great book for curling up with on a rainy afternoon. Short, humerous stories that will make you smile. This book will have you recalling wonderful memories of your own life while giving you a "warm and fuzzy" feeling. I can't wait to read "More Thoughts While Walking the Dog"
