Not Just for First Grade
I am using this book with my preschool son to reinforce the letters and sounds. This book contains simple, easy to make and learn ideas for games that teach big concepts. There are plenty of ideas to accommodate different learning styles.

Excellent-Both for Fun and Learning
This is a fantastic book by 2 very dedicated professional educators. It is very worthwhile both for its 'fun' interactive activities with your children, and as an extremely valuable educational tool for 'stealth teaching'! (Your child thinks they are just playing, while they are secretly being educated!) We have also found it very useful in helping your child with any learning 'issues', (reading, math, etc.) using enjoyable, interactive activities.

We VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book

A+ Activities is A+ with a Florida Teacher too!
A+ Activities For First grade is a fabulous resource for both parents and teachers. Each of the activties that I am using are easy to present and cost very little. These are two components that mean a lot to a teacher with ltittle extra time and $. Parents have commented that their children love the "extras" presented in this interesting and creative handbook. It's a perfect gift for the holidays. Any teacher or parent will love it. It is adaptable to any age group. A terrific buy too!! My compliments to Naomi Singer and Matt Miller.

We VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book

This book is just for me.....
My daughter just started second grade. I am very uncreative, and have a hard time thinking much beyond flash cards. When my daughter's teacher told me last year that she had to work on phonics, I had no idea what to do. (The Hooked on Phonics program costs almost $300!) This book addresses phonics, math, and more, for a lot less money. The ideas really are fun - this is as painless as it gets. A good investment. I'm going to buy the 1st grade book for my son.

From a Thrilled Second Grade Teacher
As a second grade teacher, I am extremely excited about A+ Activities for Second Grade. FINALLY, a developmentally aprropriate resource for parents that is "user friendly," and FUN! Miller and Singer have developed a sequence of activites that allow learners to celebrate active learning at home. I will be utilizing this book in my own classroom to compliment my existing curriculum with hands-on learning experiences. I will be recommending this book, HIGHLY, to the families of my 2nd graders, as well as my colleagues.

I was charmed
This book is an incredibly charming read, made even better by the beautiful pictures. I enjoyed it so much that I have given several copies of this book to friends and family. When I grow up (?), I want to be an archaeologist!!

Thank you, Naomi Miller, for giving me many evenings of pleasure.

the author signs in
Amazon.com had a mistake in the listing (since corrected) which prompted me to write and take the opportunity to transmit what my friends say about the book (I, of course, would be too prejudiced to write my own review):

One of the people pictured in the book wrote to me: "Thanks a million for your wonderful book. I've just spent a while taking refuge from a grumpy evening by flipping through it, pausing to read about the parts of your life I don't know. How wonderfully generous of you to enshrine us like this, with such precise evocation of time, space, foolishness & purpose."

Another friend wrote:"Your lovely book of drawings and watercolors arrived yeaterday. [We] were immediately entranced by the images and text--such an amusing, informative down-to-earth description life on the dig. The watercolors are really wonderful, but I've always known that.... I had never seen the Shiraz bazaar or Malyan village scenes. Then there are all the pals: ...--they evoke such memories! Is that Dash, the Wonder Dog, on the back cover? Remember, he had a "thing' for you, invading your bedroom with his cargo of fleas! And there he is, wagging his tail at your photograph. Plate 16 is a sweet rendering of my favorite view of Yassihöyük. The Euphrates views are as close as I ever need to get to that old river. Finally, I love all the little sketches scattered throughout--especially the birds and animals. Thanks again for the originals, which I treasure, and thanks for the book. ..."

And another friend wrote: "...Your book is wonderful: your narrative is a delight to read and you know how much I admire your watercolors--each is exquisite w/ great sureness of line, balance of composition pacing & repetition that makes a whole of the multi-paneled ones, and of course great use of colors to die for. I love them! I am lucky to have seen many in incomparable person but there were some that were new to me--the luminosity of the originals and your wonderful backlighting were undiminished in reproduction. Of course we love best of all discovering new things in the plates with each reading.
Congratulations in getting your book out. I am so happy that everyone else will get to share in the pleasure of looking at them.
Thank you again, I am most proud to possess a copy so wonderfully inscribed!"

I won't bore you with the rest of the rave reviews!

This book saved my sanity
I had a Hysterectomy when I was 24 years old. Life for my entire family became a living nightmare. No one told me what to expect. I was suffering from post-hysterectomy syndrome for seven years and didn't know it. When my therapist handed me this book I was immediately intrigued. I too had considered myself "castrated". After reading the first five pages, my life was forever changed. It was as if everything suddenly made sense. I don't know if Mrs. Stokes is still with us, but I would like to tell her Thank You. You are an amazing genius. Thank You Thank You Thank You. Any woman who is having second thoughts, or Uterine/Ovarian problems, with the scare of Hysterectomy hanging over their head MUST read this book. You will be able to make an informed decision.

I might be biased, but
I might be biased because my sister is one of the editors of this book, but it is a beautifully produced and interesting book, well worth looking at for anyone interested in a historical perspective on motherhood. Check it out!

Wonderful insight into the people of the Northwest
I was totally intrigued by this book and couldn't wait to find her others. The story carries you through the cultures and traditions of the people of the Olympic Peninsula and teaches a reverence for our natural rescources. I loved the relationships within the family. I would love to have a reader's guide for discussion with my book club.

The Tree People are fascinating
When brutal murders plague the placid Olympic Peninsula rainforest after a sacred cedar is cut down, Tribal Sheriff Tidewater must pit her own shamanic training against a mysterious killer. At about the time Columbus' ships were being built in the Old World, along the Pacific coast, lived an already ancient society, with perceptions, emotions & rituals so complex European languages could only hint. In this society, however, the same struggles between evil & good, shadow & light, revenge & courage raged on with the added dimensions of shape-shifting & time walking. An impressive first novel, fascinating, scary & delightful. A must read! Living by a rainforest I thoroughly enjoyed this author's skill at describing the land & the energy here.

The setting of the story in Lake Quinault was great
The story made me realize that Lake Quinault and the rain forest are beautiful place the spend time. The Indian culuture is also interesting. A must read!
