Favourite Tales from Shakespeare by Bernard Miles
This book is undoubtedly one of the best exposures to Shakespeare for children. My eight year old daughter loved it so much she brought it to school and shared it with the class. Her teacher found a copy and made it part of his curriculum. Parents were delighted and tried to find their own copies. I must say this was back in 1978! I have recommended this book over the years to numerous young parents who cannot find this wonderful book. Very sad. To not have this book would be like missing "Pat The Bunny" or "Good Night Moon".

Get your kids into Shakespeare
This book and its amazing illustrations will expose your children (and yourself) to the wonderful world of Shakespeare. Several of Shakespeares best known plays are retold as stories, without the complicated language. Bernard Miles is able to weave these tales so well that you get completely drawn into the characters and the time. Reading these as a kid (the stories are long, probably best for 12 and up) gave me an interest in Shakespeare and help me to understand them when I read or saw them as plays. Don't miss an opportunity to get a copy of this book!

Shakespeare for children to love
My 27 year old son just picked up this book from my desk and said, "Wow, this is the book that got me interested in Shakespeare when I was six! It was my favorite book for years."
This is Shakespeare for children and for parents who may not even like Shakespeare. We wore out one copy and I had to buy another. The illustrations are wonderful and contribute to discussion about the plays. All three of my children credit reading this book with their comfort with Shakespeare in high school. One become an English major. I am very sad to see that
it is out of print. I have grandchildren coming up!

My 2.3 year old can read this one!! And loves it!
This book is one of the Road to Reading series and is wonderful. My 2 year old was able to read it himself after we read it only about 5 times. He can now recite it without the book and impresses all his friends (and parents, especially) at his home daycare!! The rhyming words really make it a fun treat for young readers.

If day walks are your thing . . .
I am currently planning my walking holiday in France, so I am trying to learn as much as I can before I arrive. I found this book to be helpful in as far as it dealt with practical matters of conditions in France; such as visas, telephones and doctors. It also gave a good indication of the attractions that walkers will find in France on a regional basis.

I felt, however, that for a country famous for its very long distance trails, this book had an unhappy focus on short, often single day, walks. To be fair, it dealt in detail with the gruelling "GR20" trail in Corsica, but that was the only real endurance walk that it looked at. Given that these walks are my focus, I found this book to be something of a disappointment.

That being said, someone looking to enliven his holiday with one or more short, possibly overnight, walks could do a lot worse than this handy little book.

What I thought of this book
First of all , I'd like to say I'm a fan of Benrard Miles, I loved his "Favorite Tales From Shakespeare". This had good stories and fairly acurate retellings but still something was missing. I did not like how Mr. Miles retold how Robin Hood became an outlaw nor do I like that he had Maid Marian die before Robin(none of the other books ruin the plot like this). Truly this is a dissapointment from such a good author as Mr. Miles.
