hauntingly evocative of summertime in the south
I have always loved the song "Summertime," which my mother used to sing to my family when I was growing up. This book adds new layers of meaning to the song, with gorgeous illustrations depicting an African-American family living in the South. This is currently one of my thirteen-month-old daughter's top three favorite books, although it is not intended for her age group. She responds intensely to the images of the children in the swimming hole, the grandfather sleeping in his hammock, the mother baking an apple pie, and especially the last page where the baby is learning how to walk on the front porch. Although I have sung this book aloud to our daughter at least 100 times, I always look forward to singing it one more time. It's an absolute treasure.

fantastic illustrations capture the experience of summer
I was completely charmed by the paintings in this book. They were skillfully done, and depict the summertime of an African-American family in the south. Very warm pictures of family life.

A Hit With Children
I am a second grade teacher who read this story to a group of second graders last fall. The students also had an opportunity to listen to the Louie Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald jazz rendention of the song. My students love the story and frequently read it along with the CD. I like the beautiful illustrations that accompany the story lyrics. The author did a wonderful job of combining vibrant illustrations with music lyrics to tell a wonderful story.

George Gershwin

Another Great Composer Biography
This is a great representation of George Gershwin's life. A must have for every elementary school library. It has beautiful black and white and color pictures along with cartoons enhancing the story. Hyper-sensitive schools and parents may be shocked at the first photo of the book which has Gershwin sitting at the piano with a cigar in his mouth. If everyone can get past that picture by reminding children that this was before people knew that smoking was bad for your health, then you can enjoy this great biography.

Interesting and Enjoyable
This is one in a wonderful series of books intended to introduce young readers to the lives of famous composers. The story of George Gershwin not only tells about his life, but also gives children a feel for the time he lived in. Venezia uses details about Gershwin as a child to draw youngsters into the story. They can empathize with the young George who is seen as a "nerd" by his peers, because of his love for music. Yet he still enjoyed sports, particularly roller skating. As always, Venezia's illustrations are wonderful and I particularly enjoyed the photographs and artwork that accompanied them. All the parts come together to give children an interesting and enjoyable picture of the man and his music.

Still relevant
I am a Hungarian - just like Mikes was until he moved to England in his 20s. I first read his books on the Brits a year after I moved to Britain (this was 4 years ago). I was absolutely stunned to see my very thoughts and views about Britain put on paper by somebody who could have been my grandfather! The things he wrote are still very true and relevant - enjoy his style but don't make the mistake of not taking him seriously just because you found his book in the "humour" section. You will have a very excellent, true and intimate view of the Brits - the kind only people who came to live here can provide. A must for everybody starting a life in England!

A Great Book !
George Mikes is one of the best writers I've ever read. You will enjoy this genuinely entertaining book.

For Such a Time As This.
On September 10, 2001 the United States was still a country severely divided by a confusing cultural war illustrated so vividly just nine months earlier when the country voted down the middle in the presidential elections. Some were still bitter about how things had turned out and were blaming President George W. Bush for the sour turn the economy was taking.

The petty bickering stopped for awhile on September 11, 2001. For the first time in a long time, the nation united. It was a horrible day, yet at the same time it was a day of honor and glory. Heroes are fashioned over time by the simple things they do in life, it's just that most people fail to see them as such. But when adversity strikes, the heroes that are always among us rise to the occassion doing what they have always done, the only difference being that it is on a stage much larger than they are used to performing upon with all eyes fixed upon them.

On September 11, 2001 President George W. Bush stood the ground and did what needed to be done. The whole world had seemed to change, but he was still the man he had always been. It was just that people began to see him in a different light, as a leader far more capable of the task set before him than many people, days earlier, would have supposed. Nine days later, he addressed the nation and parts of his speech that night remain in the hearts of all Americans. Presidents makes speeches all the time, but it is very rare that a president makes a speech that plants itself in history: Lincoln's Gettysburg Address; FDR's Day of Infamy; Kennedy's ask what you can do for your country; Reagan's address in Berlin to tear down the wall. On September 20, 2001 President George W. Bush's Our Mission and Our Moment joined those hallowed ranks. The words became embedded in all our hearts. They are a firm reminder of how great our country is, of the difficulties that lie ahead, and of the hope we can all claim as Americans. "In all that lies before us, may God grant us wisdom, and may He watch over the United States of America."

Remember, Always. (For people who say "War? What war?")
You will want this book as a keepsake and a memento of these stern times that we are passing through. For whatever reason, for good or bad, we were ordained to live during these great and terrible days, and I foresee a time when our grandchildren will ask us about this war with awe and reverence, much like we look to the World War II generation with awe and reverence.

This talk is the galvanizing address that W gave after the attack on the United States. We need to remember always what we are fighting for. We need to keep our resolve up, since, as Yates observes, "The best lack all conviction, the worst are full of a passionate intensity."

This booklet also has a chronology of the events surrounding the attack.

This is pricey for what it is it, but keep in mind that it is for charity.

We flew our flags for several day, then took them down. But the war is still on. Remember it, always.

George MacDonald's Best Novel!
This is a wonderful story of a young man who, in order to raise enough money to return to University, takes a job as a tutor at a wealthy estate. He soon finds love and nurturing, however, from a simple pious Scotch family nearby. Though his travels take him off to England and eventually to London he never completely forgets the valuable lessons that his spiritual father instilled in him. This story has ghosts, haunted mansions, secret passages, hypnotism, magic rings, songs, poems, beautiful ladies and sinister villans. The individual characters are expertly developed and extremely complex in their behaviors. I also recomend that you get the full length version from Sunrise Publishers or Johannesen Printing & Publishing entitled "David Elginbrod". The first 80 pages are a little difficult because of the Scotch dialect, but can be easily figured out.

Classic George MacDonald
This is an updated, easier-to-read version of George MacDonald's novel _David_Elginbrod_. With his bits of poetic theology, he leads the characters and the reader to ultimate freedom from paralyzing fear. It tooks months for me to realize how much _The_Tutor's_First_Love_ affected my life because the truths in this book are not gaudy or sensational but they slowly replace fear with faith. The revival of the works of George MacDonald is truly a Godsend.

Advanced Kicks is a Must Have.......
Advanced Kicks is a must have for any Fan or Student (past, present,or future) of Sifu Cynthia Rothrock.

It has a very good and easy to follow format. However...like ANY instructional book or video...... it is only a guide to actual training with a Qualified instructor. One could get "Hurt" trying to do some of the stretches or kicking drills without the proper warmup.

What would make this book complete is if it were to have a Video package.

I own a copy (*1st printing)of this book and use it as a reference manual at my Martial Arts Studio.

*A note to Collectors. This book has two printings. Both printings are pretty much the same. The difference is the "price" on the back cover.

Great blend of drama and reality.
Peter Goodchild's take on the events following the upheaval at the 1968 Democratic Convention in Chicago masterfully mixes real life interviews with dramatic re-enactments from the courtroom. The actors portray the 60's "hippies" with passion and reverence. The interviewing of historians and participants provides intriguing details into the events. Truly a great blend of drama and reality.

Well recommended
This book is well worth it from just an aesthetic standpoint! I picked it up recently while on vacation and was taken by what a visually attractive book it is - beautiful graphics, high quality paper, conducive to "inner peace" even before reading the text. I was surprised at the low cost considering the high quality production. I just enjoy holding and looking at it. But beyond that, the book is well organized and contains many fruitful exercizes, is well written and inspirational. I recommend it!

A great starting point
I suffered through most of my twenties with a pretty debilitating anxiety disorder, which unfortunately has recently come back to check up on me. I found Mike George's short-but-to-the-point book helpful in diffusing and alleviating many of the mental circumstances that contribute to anxiety.

With short, bite size chapters illustrated with soothing water-colors, LEARN TO RELAX touches on all of the important tools needed to unweave the warp of stress and anxiety that tends to bind us in knots. Mike George covers the principles of deep breathing, meditation, visualization techniques, and also shows how to use the formidable powers of the imagination to heal the body and mind from within.

This book isn't a comprehensive manual on relaxation, but it wasn't meant to be. Rather, it's a portable, user-friendly sampler that will help you take the first steps down the path of relaxation and healing. If you get something from this book, you'll definitely want to explore the subject further, but this is a great place to start.

Very helpful with conquering stress
I found this book to be very helpful. I have purchased five copies to pass on to friends. They have all agreed that it is a wonderful tool and easy to follow.

Just wonderful!
This is a must-have for anyone feeling stressed. By this point, just looking at the cover relaxes me. :)
