Excellent Guide
Being a parent that lives Adirondacks I am always looking for new things for me and my children to enjoy. I thought this was a great book for both kids and adults to look through and find activities. I found it had a variety of activities to do in a large 16 county area. I think this is the perfect guide for the parent who like to do weekend activities with the kids. For me its simply choose a place to go and find something interesting to do there. And trust me, there are plenty of choices! This is an escpecially helpful book for kids 2-12. I easily give this book the full 5 Amazon stars for excellent research, easy to use layout, variety of choices, wide selection of locations, and knowledge of what families want. So if your a parent looking for a guide for where to bring your kids, buy this book. In fact any parent living in upstate New York should get this book, you never know when you might need it.

Much better than on-line help, but leaves out key informatio
For someone who has worked with Microsoft products (Word, EXCEL, POWERPOINT) and wants to improve knowledge, this is incredibly useful. Easy step-by-step approach is easy to follow. But some points are just plain left out (you wonder, how do I do that? And no answer. Not a bedtime reader, but an excellent reference book. Overall, rated as a 9 for its easy to read and use format and help, and 1 point deducted for missing items.

as the Mom of 4 little boys...
I found this book to be very well written and interesting! I was hoping more questions would be about little boys, as we have a 7, 6, 4 and 19 month old. It covers a wide variety of topics, concerns and situations at all ages. I especially agreed with the sections and comment regarding teens and their "issues". The author seems to have a 'don't make too big a deal of anything' attitude. I liked that! Most of the teen stuff will blow over and the photos of your son with blue hair can be used as blackmail later!

A Rich Source of Information
By one of the authors of "Raising Cain", this book in the format of a series of questions and answers organized around central themes.

As such, it can serve as both a reference work to specific areas or a can be read as a single work.

The book deals with a wide range of issues in a candid, non-judgemental way.

And, perhaps, like Spock's or Leach's works about infants, it will serve to help orient adults in doing their best with their sons or the sons of others.

I was reminded what it was like to be 12 and confused.
I buy more books than I find time to read them. Occasionally I come across a book that grabs my attention, hooks me in, and refuses to let me put it down. Such is the case in regard to "Speaking of Boys". I was spending time in the book section of a local Target store while my ll and 12 year-old boys were checking out toys and video games. The book's cover photo grabbed my attention. Flipping through the book and its questions, I found the presentation attractive, bought it, and began reading it during subway rides to and from work. I came to understand a lot of issues that I never fully comprehended as a twelve year old. I was surprised by some of the "facts" of teenage boys, such as how they view sex, why they feel a need to fight authority while needing hugs, when "wet dreams" begin and how to explain the phenomenon, etc. I have highly recommended the book to many. It's easy to digest, accessible to just about anyone, and oftentimes explains difficult issues with a touch of humor. Check it out!

A great book for anyone in school or a dead end job.
This is a great book for anyone nearing the close of any scholastic or professional carreer. The book is an easy read and the interviews are short enough that even young readers would enjoy this book. It is a great window into life lived with passion. It is an example that success is not always immediate, but if you stay true to yourself and your dreams, the payoff is personal success, which is always greater than personal gain which is much easier to find. The interviews are fun and diverse. No matter what path in life you are taking, there is an interview that will probably mirror your experience. Even more interensting than the interviews themselves though, is the story of the author and how he and his friends landed the interviews in the book. The only reason for the four star rating is that I was always wanting more at the end of each interview. Although this may be the goal of the author, it is not everyday that someone gets to peek into the lives of some of the world's most successful people. Overall though, I highly reccomend the book.

Good boook for the graduate or anyone in a dead end job

A cool book
Very nice, easy to read book. Without any verbiage or pomposity, gives you a sense in how many different ways people live out their lives, and how different things matter to different people. Interspersed in the book are true gems of wisdow that interviewes occasionally drop. Things you've all heard before, but here having strong credibility, because they are clearly life's lessons these people learned through toil and struggle, not read off a fortune cookie.

boring
I didn't like the book becase the book was just boring, and the story had no point what-so-ever. It's a book that peopple who like reading old books would read!

The gold cadillac
I really liked this book. It was about how people treated black people because of their skin color. But I think It was bad how they treated them. It was a sad story because the girl's dad bought a brand new cadillac. And their mom refused to ride in it I give this book 4 stars. It is a good book. But it needs more pages. It is to short.

the gold cadillac
"As I saw my dad coming in a Cadillac I felt some butterflies in my stomach. I couldn't believe that Cadillac was ours."
What I liked about this book were the characters. I liked the characters because they really showed their feelings. I also liked the car because it is an o.k. car. What I didn't like about this was the white and black people signs. I also didn't like how the white cop treated the family when he thought they had stolen the car when they went down south. This historical fiction book was written by, Mildred D. Taylor. I really recommend this book to people who are interested in African American history.

The Joy of Divorce

This book should be re-titled "Dour Sayings for Marriage"
First off, the title of this little 95 page book was a very poor choice. This book should be re-titled "Dour Sayings for Marriage and Divorce." When I passed the book to my girlfriend she would not even look through it. Her terse comment, "There is no JOY! in divorce" probably sums up how most who see the book's title react. This is a book of somber and dreary proverbs that commiserate the dark side of marriage. Adages, such as Leonardo DaVinci quote, "Marriage is like putting one's hand into a bag of snakes on the chance of drawing out an eel" typify the selection of quotes. I cannot see the beneficial aspect of giving this book to a friend who has just divorced. Not Recommended.

Tyrannosaurus Time (Just for a Day Book)
Text was not age appropriate. Vocabulary was geared more to adult level. Graphic description of violence/gore frightening for some smaller children. Not a good choice for small children.
