I found that this book was really useful because there is such a wide range of material, however, I did find that when I found a good monalogue and wanted to read the whole play it was not available anywhere on the net that I looked. This was bit annoying because it is impossible to successfully create a character from just a monalogue and is even difficult with the whole play. As I mentioned before there is a very wide range of plays, from Shakespeare to the author himself.

This book has a great many scenes and monologues, and nearly anyone can find one that works for them. While some of the plays that are excerpted are a bit obscure, I found this to be only a minor setback, thanks to the magic of online book purchasing.

The first 15 pages are devoted to creating the character and I found them very insightful. A nice, wide variety of monologues & scenes and I really liked the addition of several Shakespearean monologues at the end of each section. It's a plus that there Shakespeare monologues that are not often used. Some of the monologues/scenes in the book are from: An Ideal Husband, The Three Sisters, Master Class, I Hate Hamlet, Conversations with my Father, The Miss Firecracker Contest, Steambath, and much more...I highly recommend this book.

This scene and monologue book is a must for all actors. It has a broad range of materials that includes excellent audition pieces. I highly recomend this for begining actors to advanced actors. On top of a great selection of pieces, it also contains information for dealing with stage fright. I give this book four stars.

This book was good and did help a little but only on scenes you must do without exception.I would suggest a monolog book by peg kehret or some other title.I have found that Meriwether Publishing LTD. has a very good selection of wonderful books for this catagory.Happy hunting

I'm a librarian, and I wish I had at least two more copies of this book. It is checked out more by students than many of our books in the drama section. I hope to see more books like this one.

This book has a wide range of scenes - for 2 men, 2 woman, one man, one woman. Great scenes from old classics - The Lion in Winter, The Children's Hour, etc. If you don't want to do the same old scenes, this book is great. It's not a how-to, just the scenes. Schulman & Mekler are great anyway. They have other good compilations.
