Amazingly comprehensive subject material
This is a tremendous book for those interested in Christian counseling. I already own one; I'm buying another for my father who is a pastoral counselor. I am currently a counseling graduate student at John Brown University and the variety of subject material that this book covers is simply amazing. It is by far my favorite counseling book, and I have read dozens. It does not knock science, as unfortunately some Christian counseling theorists do. It recognizes scientific truths, while remaining true to the Bible.

Outstanding and comprehensive study of general psychology
From the physical basis to counseling modalities, this is the obvious textbook of choice for schools desiring to teach psychology from a Christian viewpoint. This is great for upper division high school or a general course for college students.

Good common-sense advice given with humor
Mrs. Roth has provided a usable guide for middle school parents in dealing with the problems that arise with their young teens. Some of her suggestions will also apply to other age groups--even to spouses. She writes from a Christian viewpoint but is not preachy. Her book recommends a light touch and a good sense of humor in teaching young adults to respect themselves and others.

This book is vital for all parents, all age groups
"Enter at your own Risk" is extremely informative and entertaining. Very easy and enjoyable reading. It keeps you interested and provides excellent stories that stick with you and makes it easy to remember the wise teachings throughout the book. Although this book is specifically designed for the middle-school aged children, it should be read by parents of every age group, the younger the child, the better. The book contains important and vital tips that you can never start learning too soon. The sooner you read this book, the sooner you will begin to have a healthier family and healthier children. A "must read book" for every family.

One of the absolute best, and I've read most of them
In the midst of a very terrible time in my life, I stumbled across this book. It blew me away. I have read many, many books on suffering and dealing with life's tragedies. This one is different in that it does not simply regurgitate the standard pat answers to why suffering exists and what to do when it happens ("Trials are actually a blessing! They'll make you a better person! Embrace them!" -- Give me a break.). Joel Freeman avoids preachy, sanctimonious language and never gets condescending. He gives you practical strategies for dealing with not only suffering and grief but the accompanying feelings of unfairness and "God's absence" that go along with these. My faith in God was strenghthened by my having read this book.

SO, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?
Sometimes life isn't fair, but we expect it to be...why else would we be so angry and hurt when it isn't. We wonder:

* If God is a God of love, why is there so much suffering in the world?
* Why do the wicked seem to prosper?
* Why do terrible things seem to happen to nice people?
* Why does life have to hurt so much?
* Isn't there an easier way to grow?
* Can any meaning be found in suffering?

Endorsed by the likes of Joni Eareckson Tada, Billy Graham, Paul Meier and others, When Life Isn't Fair: Making Sense Out of Suffering (Hardcover, 144 pages) presents helpful insight, poignant stories and touches of humor in revealing a biblical perspective on these questions. Written in a highly readable and thought-provoking style, author Joel A. Freeman, Ph.D. encourages readers to seek a greater understanding of their feelings through personal reflection. He also prompts discussion about their expectations of themselves, others and God.

Published by New leaf Press as part of the Trusting the Master series, Dr. Freeman's newly revised and reprinted book contains Bible verses that speak to specific situations. Drawing on his years of experience in counseling people through their grief and suffering, Dr. Freeman provides a framework upon which can be found true, lasting peace and security.

As a State of Maryland Board Certified Professional Counselor, Joel A. Freeman, Ph.D. holds a Master of Science degree in counseling from Loyola College (Baltimore) and also a Ph.D. in the same discipline. He served as mentor/chaplain for the NBA Washington Wizards for 19 years ('79-'98). As president of The Freeman Institute™, Dr. Freeman conducts team building/leadership/diversity/change management initiatives for leaders of other nations, government agencies, corporations and faith-based organizations. Joel and his family reside in Maryland.

A Foundation Builder
This book started a turning point in my Christian walk. It is firmly grounded in Biblical truths and it is easy to understand. Each chapter explained a common misconception or problem and what the Bible has to say about it. Although the last section of the book discussing the different disorders wasn't what I was needing, the first 2 sections really hit home. As a new Christian, it layed a foundation that was solidly based on scripture. It dispelled misconceptions that I had and even brought up a few that I didn't know I had! I believe that this book has something for everyone. This a book that I will refer back to often.

Some really good insights
This book was very helpful to me. As a child of divorced parents, I never understood how my experiences as a small child could effect my ability to be intimate with others as an adult. Since I am a Christian and have admired the work of Minirth and Meier for years, I love how the authors weave the truth of Jesus' love for us and wanting us to feel safe with solid counseling advice. I know that this is a book I will refer to again and again as I contine to work through my "unsafe" experiences as a child.

A Stimulating and Provocative Read.
This is the first book I read in the genre 'Theological Thriller'. The book represented the world really well. It depicted one way the world could react to the discovery of Jesus' bones. It was an intense read at times forcing me away from sleep to continue another chapter. I enjoyed the book thoroughly except for one thing, the romance. There was a relationship between the main character and another character that seemed out of place and a bit forced. This was a pretty minor thing though. I just dismissed the relationship as just a vessel for more conflicts and complications to intensify the situations. I give it a 4 out of 5 because there were some instances where it was slow but they were pretty slight, but this combined with the relationship brought it down a little. As I said, overall I love the book and would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a good, captivating read.

Can you challenge your faith?
Then read this book! I loved the overwheming sense of reality that Maier portrays here. From cover to cover I was deeply enveloped within the story, engrossed in each character and deeply moved emotionally by every upset and twist and turn. When someone died I actually shed tears! I gasped with shock aloud at many points! The only reason I allowed it to loose a star is because at times I found the precise Technical explanations of the archaology extremely tedious and hard to read through, some of them felt like college textbooks; but honestly every bit of it was worth the deep philosophical questions asked! Would this change your faith? Can the world adapt to such a severe shift in perception? Incredible realism, images painted more vividly than most movies can even begin! I think anyone who enjoys a deeply rooted mystery, a spiritual journey, or a deeply introspective search would thoroughly enjoy this book! Or even if you just want a good fast-paced page turner to cozy up with on an otherwise lazy afternoon. Remember: action, discovery, mystery, romance, and philosophy all with one whack!

Riveting!
While I do agree with other reviewers that the archaeological techno-babble got a bit tedious at times, I can't help but give the book five stars. I guess it's because I'm a wanna-be archaeologist, who knows.

Anyway, onto my review... When I first heard about this book, it was because my Grandmother was a subscriber to the Guideposts condensed books, and this happened to be in a volume. Well, I had read another book in the volume, and decided this one looked interesting -- since I was a fan of archaeology anyway -- and I decided to read it.

My, what a surprise it was. You really don't know quite what to expect when you get into a book that handles such a controversial topic, but the author did it beautifully.

I could scarcely put the book down, and when I was able to find the full version, I bought it immediately and read it from cover-to-cover in a day.

Even if you're not a fan of Christian fiction, I must highly recommend this book. Even if your knowledge of archaeology comes from seeing a single Indiana Jones movie. I think if you give it a try, you'll really like it.
