Great Twist on a Christmas Classic
I am a third-grade teacher, and I loved this story. The chaos that is portrayed on the pages of this delightful picture book is so true regarding what it is like the last few days before Christmas vacation. I especially loved reading about the room mom commandos and the yearly Christmas pageant. I have bought this book as a gift for several of my colleagues who have also thoroughly enjoyed it.

What a find!
I had the pleasure of receiving this book as a gift from not one but two different students ... I read it aloud and fell in love with it. The author is a teacher (no surprise), and I ... met him at a conference! He couldn't have been nicer. I have every intention of giving this book as a gift to my own children's teachers ... If you work in an elementary school or know someone who does, this book is a find. Best of all, the kids think it's hysterical!

A Book School Children and Adults Alike Will Love
Clever illustrations and a humorous storyline make this a must- read Christmas picture book for both children and adults. I am a first-grade teacher, and this book is the story of my life. I read this book to my students, and they could not wait to see what funny incident happened next. They have also asked me to read it to them over and over again. I highly recommend this title.

Dry Climate Gardening With Succulents: The Huntington Botanical Gardens (The American Garden Guides)

Amazon base price: $25.00

The culture notes and photographs are a gardener's treasure.
Plant growth habit and culture notes are all too rare in succulent and cacti volumes. This expertly assembled book captures the succulent plants at their optimum phase and accurately records botanical names and growth requirements. I also utilize to accurately identify plants that I use to create living succulent wreaths. The section of 'Bringing the Desert Indoors' is a welcome invitation to indoor gardeners every where to enjoy these sculptural beauties year around.

Best book in my library.
One of few books dealing with gardening in the dry southwestern climates. Most of the book is devoted to "Plant Selector" which describes the plants, hardiness, cultivation needs, etc. Other sections deal with "Garden Design", "Techniques" (cultivation etc.), and, " Special Conditions." If you have one book on succulent gardening, this should be it.

Disheartening
Ugh. This book is so comprehensive that it is disheartening. My copy has just shy of 500 pages with the following layout:

Aquila chrysaetos _________________________________

Golden Eagle Widespread Holarctic regions of...

That's it. Two lines per bird and 500 pages! The line gives you space to note the date and location you spotted the bird.

This book is my bible of birdwatching. I use other guides for identification and this as my permanent record for sightings. If you need a life list that covered the world this is your book.

The Magdalen Metaphysicals: Idealism and Orthodoxy at Oxford, 1901-1945

Author: James Patrick
Amazon base price: $18.95

Read this Book . It is Excellent.
This is one of the most interesting books I have read in a long time. The main chapters cover C. S. Lewis, R. G. Collingwood, J. R. R. Tolkien, Charles Williams, and J. A. Smith, the teacher of the first two. All of these men were influential, interesting, and taught at Oxford. They were prolific writers and held similar philosophies. The style of James Patrick is worthy of the subject. You will find it well-written, superbly researched, and fun to read. There are in addition a number of nice photographs of the men who appear in the book.

A beautiful edition, to give as a gift
We have an inexpensive paperback version (see our reviews) of this classic poem, and we said that's enough for us. That was before we looked through this beautifully illustrated (by Bruce Whatley) edition of The Night Before Christmas.

The lyrics are the same, from book to book, but the fanciful illustrations in this one are enough to engage adults and children as they read this book together.

The perfect gift for any family whose Christmas tradition includes reading this classic!

The Night Before Christmas illustrated by Tasha Tudor
I discovered this book 31 years ago, for my daughter and it is still loved by all the family. The illustrations are wonderful, warm, charming and delightful and bring a special meaning to the story. We still read it to all the young children on Christmas Eve and for adults we read the story and pass a grab bag gift every time the word THE is mentioned. It would not be Christmas without this book. It is magical.

A Happy Christmas to All
This beautiful book was in my family as a hard cover edition for many years and was a Christmas Eve tradition for my four sons when they were growing up. It's poor battered body disappeared some time after the last of my little ones went off into the adult world. I am so delighted to see it back again, though this time as a nicely affordable soft cover. Clement C. Moore's enchanting story poem already provides an atmosphere filled with warmth and joyful expectation and with the addition of Tasha Tudor's quaint, nostalgic water-colors from an antique New England the Christmas magic is complete!
The winter landscapes fill our senses and Tasha's own gray tabby cat and Welsh Corgi welcome us into this charming world.
Tasha's Santa that you will meet in this book has been portrayed as the poem describes him...a right jolly old elf. He's not that much larger than the corgi and his team really consists of eight "tiny" reindeer. His pointy ears and his Eskimo mukluks add to the delightful ambiance of the book. He dances with the toys and with the happy animals and we can truly believe it will be a happy Christmas for all.
I hope this book becomes a Christmas Eve tradition for many, many more families.

It's a good text book about project management with clear examples and logical chapter development via the following order: Project Management Concepts, Needs Identification,Proposed Solutions,The Project,People: The Key to Project Success,The Project Manager,The Project Team,Types of Project, Organizations,Project Communication and Documentation,Project Planning and Control, Planning, Scheduling,Schedule Control,Resource Considerations, Cost Planning and Performance.

An Excellent Book
I was assigned this book for my project management class. This book is straight-forward and to the point. It gives comprehensive insight into the world of managing projects.

The best one on the market...
I am currently teaching Project Management in BILGI MBA program.
Searching for a textbook, I have ordered more than 7-8 related
books from Amazon and been to a couple of libraries. This book
seemed to be the best one to cover in class.
The feedback from the students are amazingly positive and made my life extreamly easier. If you want to have the questions, www resources and case studies, you have to get the hardcover version...

Quite skimpy
This is not a bad introductory documentation book, but quite skimpy in the amount of information and examples it contains.
Not sure it is worth buying at that price. I bought it after reading the previous reviews - I think they overrated it!

The only technical documentation book you'll need
After reading my colleague's comments I rushed out and purchased this book. I, too, am trained and certified in Information Mapping© and was impressed at how closely the approach in this book is aligned to that method. However, what I like most is the fact that this book can be used as guidance for a wider scope than just documenting software architectures because it shows how to organize your documentation requirements, develop clear documentation and manage the entire process from start to finish.

I also like the clearly articulated and illustrated advice about how to augment text with graphics, and how to select the views and associated graphics to document requirements, specifications and the finished architecture. An example of how this book goes beyond documenting just architectures is a project in which I was engaged two years ago. One of the major deliverables was a set of operations guides. While this is related to architecture with respect to how its used after it's in production, there were no books that fully described how to go about it in a coherent way. Using the advice and techniques in this book I could have greatly improved upon what I did produce. While I cannot change the past, you can be sure that I'll use this book to its fullest the next time I need to write ops guides, especially when it comes to showing component and connector views, and elements and relations.

If you do technical writing either professionally or as a part of your job get this book and keep it nearby. If you read and use the material you're ability to communicate will surely improve, and you'll be able to tailor your documentation to each segment of your audience (business and technical), as well as to clearly communicate information. You'll also learn much about managing the documentation process itself.

Should be an establish standard for documenting
Since reading a fascinating document titled "CMU/SEI-2001-TN-010 - Documenting Software Architectures: Organization of Documentation Package" a year ago and discovering that the approximately 20-page document was the basis for a book I have patiently waited, and am delighted with how the book turned out.

First, this book stands out as one of the clearest descriptions of how to not only document architectures, but how to manage the documentation project. Second, this is not a dogmatic prescription for how to document, but instead gives a set of techniques and views that can be used singularly or in combination to produce documentation that meets the needs of all technical and business stakeholders.

When I read the brief predecessor to this book I liked the way different view types and styles were introduced, but was left to my own imagination and creativity to employ them based on scant descriptions. This book rectifies those gaps by providing comprehensive guidance on how to create each view type and when it's most appropriate for inclusion into the documentation project. I was also intrigued by the earlier document because it discussed 'information chunking', which is the basis for a technique in which I'm trained and certified called Information Mapping©. The book expands on the earlier work, and it turns out that the material is not only consistent with Information Mapping© at a high level, but also shares many core principles. To me this is another plus because it will introduce readers who have not benefited from formal Information Mapping© training to powerful and effective document design and development techniques.

Another strong point about this book is the attention paid to managing the documentation process - it's one thing to write clear documentation and quite another to manage a process where many writers contribute to the documentation. I also liked the illustration examples, which epitomize how to effectively portray technical detail, and the discussion of other methods of documenting architecture.

In my opinion this book should become the standard for developing and managing documentation. It belongs on the desk of every technical writer and on the bookshelf of every architect and designer. I waited a year for this book and it was well worth the wait.

Excellent Intro to PM
I took a course in PM and was frustrated by the textbook (PM: Strategy and Implementation by DI Cleland) that was assigned so I searched the library stacks for introductory texts to Project Management. This one is one of the best. It is comprehensive and down to earth, with good clean figures and illustrations. Nuthin' fancy, just a good and clearly written introduction to project management.

The Cleland book is written for perhaps MBA or civil engineering students who will be looking at the planning and management of international scope projects. It is an encyclopedic book with epic scope but little nuts and bolts information. It might make a handy reference but is not real helpful to someone who needs to know the basic terms and concepts used by working project managers. The Gido and Clements book fits that bill and frankly I would recommend it to the MBAs and civil engineers too if they were new to PM.

relevant info about author
after 3 trips to amazonian peru, i have eagerly anticipated this book for more than a year. i was so excited about its upcoming release that i actually communicated with the author a couple of times-one of those times, he was reached in his hospital bed where he was being treated for a serious, life-threatening illness. his illness notwithstanding, the author was very polite and forthcoming about problems with publication of the field guide. one significant problem mentioned was with printing of the plates in singapore.
although the book apparently has many shortcomings according to the reviews i've read, i felt it necessary to mention the illness of the author as perhaps a major reason for those problems. i am impressed by someone who continues to be accessible despite being in a battle for his life. although THE BIRDS OF COLOMBIA has been my ornithological bible in my trips to amazonian peru, i will still gladly add mr.clemens book to my collection, negative comments notwithstanding.

Not perfect but very useful
On a recent trip to Peru, this book was used more than any other field guide. Featuring a wealth of color plates, this book is for carrying in the field and identifying birds, not for learning much about them. The text tells you very little about each species, but other guides such as Birds of Columbia and The Birds of South America series can fill in information once you have identified the bird. Unlike other guides I brought, Birds of Peru was sufficient for identifying almost everything I saw, and though it could be better, it is a must for any birder visiting Peru.

Review by someone living in Peru
I have been birding for over 20 years now, and was thrilled to hear that this book was coming out last year. Why? Because I live in the Andes of Peru as a medical missionary. Up until now I have not had much interest in birding, because I cannot identify what I am seeing, and I derive much of my birding pleasure from doing just that. If I am a 'lister' fine. If others are so noble as to take birding pleasure from just seeing birds, good for you, but I am not that way. Thus, this book has made me want to get up early and stomp through the Andes like I used to with my Peterson guide in the plains of Nebraska! Yes, the book has typographical errors, and probably content errors. Yes, some comorants appear incongruously on pages away from other comorants. Yes, some birds on the same plates are not to scale. But I suspect most birders are functioning at a high enough level to overcome these difficulties. For us casual birders it is quite adequate. Considering the vacuum of information existing before this guide, it is a 'must have' for anyone wanting to do some birding in Peru. In the US we are used to high quality available guides. Peru is a poor country. We don't have resources to put out a perfect guide. The author lives in California, so putting out this guide is a remarkable achievement, even if there are errors.
