Very Helpful Resource
I found this book to be a very helpful resource in dealing with Jehovah's Witnesses. The tone is not defensive nor condescending, but Dr. McKenzie presents honest, forthright critique of the views of the Jehovah's Witnesses and challenges their views of the Bible. This would be a great book to give to a friend who might be a Jehovah's Witness to help them evaluate their membership in the group or to give to someone who is considering the movement. It is also useful for Christians who want to understand the movement more fully and be able to respond graciously as Dr. McKenzie has done in the book.

Great book for friends and family
I was looking for a book to give to some friends and relatives on Jehovah's Witnesses, and after shopping around a bit, chose this one. It seemed "user-friendly," with enough information on their beliefs to get them started. Two of my friends actually called me later to say "thanks" and that this book had helped them understand the Witnesses' basic beliefs. That was the first time anybody ever called me like that! I particularly liked the chapters on Jesus, and the one on the Witnesses and Society. The author made their beliefs easy to understand and explained why they are so anxious to spread their message. He obviously knows his stuff, but writes in a way that I can understand. After reading a lot of books on religion, I apprecaite that approach. In my family there are a lot of Christians who are eager to know more about their own faith, but don't know much more than just the basics. I would recommend this book wholeheartedly to anybody who wants a primer on the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses and how they compare to the standard beliefs of Christianity. Another thing I liked about it was that the author never put anybody's beliefs down--just stated the historical facts and pretty much let them speak for themselves. Frankly, I got a good bang for the buck with this book.

A must for Chiefs' fans. An interesting history lesson as well as all the top games in the great Stadium's history. You could swear you were back in the stadium for the Montana-led Chiefs vs. the 49ers game. The hundreds of color pictures alone are worth the price of the book!

Nice intro to mythology
If you do not have any idea on any culture's mythology this book is for you. After an intro on mythology, its role in societies, the book goes to tell the stories on mythologies of the different cultures, ancient civilizations and today's primitive societies. If you want to have deeper knowledge do not miss the references at the end of the book.

Good news for religion in the public square
The books says that the author is a professor of ethics in upstate New York. The good news is that he doesn't write like a professor! At least most of the professors I know. I was able not only to understand what he was saying, but to mentally dialogue with the work as I went along. The book is about Paul Ramsey, the late ethicist from Princeton who was a prolific writer who also believed that one's religion could be a positive force when thinking about moral issues. I read a good deal of books on ethics and postmodernism, and I found the author's presentation of Ramsey a refreshing change from some of the densely-packed (and nearly impossible to understand) volumes I've recently plowed through.

McKenzie covers Ramsey's views on medical and political ethics, and traces his thought back to his Protestant roots. Besides the references to relevant issues like cloning, I guess what I liked the most was the author's final chapter where he made the case that Ramsey's way of doing ethics is a good fit for religious or spiritual people talking about morality today. You don't have to check either your brains or your religious tradition at the door. This is a good read. I do recommend it.

Okay but. . .
I guess if I had not already had the book Lucky Star, I might have really liked this book but I really didn't. I actually won the book on an auction and couldn't wait to receive it but to my horror it was exactly the same as Lucky Star printed in and around 1984 except larger and with a different cover. The portrait inside was the same as the cover which is really the only good thing about this book. What was even more worse was that the pictures were all weird looking, I mean in the book Lucky Star they were all basically black and white but these ones in this newer copy were like negatives and really bad colors like blue tints to Madonna's face. Gee it's no wonder Madonna did not want this book published. I say if you have "lucky star" and later titled "her own story", don't bother with this one at all unless you really want the portrait.
