My little girl is afraid of bugs. She loved this book--it introduced her to the idea that insects are interesting, and that it is okay to be really really excited about the world. A positive, funny and informative book.

My mom asked me to read it since she thought it was a great book. I did. And I like it. Amanda looks like any nerd in school, but she is actually really smart and cool.
She is smart because she knows everything about bugs, most of them in the story that I have never heard of. I would say she is an Einstein in the field of insects! I bet it takes a lot of hard work and a strong passion to be able to learn so much.
Amanda is cool too. Nobody tries to understand her. However, she never gives up her passion even though she often gets herself into troubles for it. That's what a real hero is about.
Well, I am glad that hero is not always lonely. At the end of the story, Amanda finally finds a bosom friend that shares the same passion with her. I like the happy ending!

I guess I am partial about liking this book. The reason is that I am the mother of the Amanda Frankenstein, whose name was used in this book. When the "real" Amanda was young, she too liked bugs. I thoroughly enjoy sharing this book with the students at my school where I teach. The students love the story and that my daughter's name is in the book. It is a special book to my family and I as well. Mrs. McDonald wrote a cute story showing how girls can like bugs and things of nature. She also showed how students can meet others who share similar likes.

I've used this book with first and third grade students that are studying needs of animals and animal homes. The students love the predictability of the hermit crab's sounds. It opens up the discussion to habitats and why animals need certain characteristics in their homes. Great book!

This is not only an amazingly well-written book, it also has some of the most beautiful illustrations around! Is This a House for Hermit Crab? has a repeating text that kids will soon love to say along with you. McDonald's use of onomatopia is a chance to teach children about figurative language. The repeating words "scritch-scratch" are used to describe the hermit crab crawling along the shore. You can call children's attention to these words by having them scratch a stick arcoss a small strip of sandpaper as these words are read aloud. This book became a read-aloud favorite in my classroom. Another great hermit crab book is Moving Day by Robert Kalan, also available at amazon.com.

I think children can feel the feelings of finding a new home, too, when they are reading IS THIS A HOUSE FOR HERMIT CRAB. Another book on hermit crabs with a little different twist is P. HERMIT CLAIMS A CASTLE (also available on amazon.com) in which this hermit crab, Prince Hermit, has the challenge of getting back to his natural habitat after he has been taken out of the tidepool. The environmental message that a marine creature's survival depends on his staying in his habitat makes this book important to children who don't know this and to the hermit crab fans of IS THERE A HOUSE FOR HERMIT CRAB who would like more books to read on this subject.

This book is a great tool to teach elements of writing. It includes great onomatopoeia, hyperbole, and fantastic descriptive language. It kept my 2nd grade students engaged and would be excellent for upper grades as well. It is also open-ended and has a great opportunity for a writing extension.

this is a delightful book, and an excellent story for new readers, with a rich storyline and enjoyable characters.

My daughter loves this book, and so does every kid who visits our house! I read it over and over, with it's rhyming text and wonderful illustrations, I still enjoy it even after all the readings.

The book is your Mama a Llama is a good book for extremely young children because the book helps children see what different kinds of animals are in the world. The book also explains where the animals live and some common things the do. In the book there is a young llama that goes up to different animals and asked them if there mamas a llama, and the book even rhymes. I would recommend this book for parents to read to their children to teach the different animals or for beginning readers. Those who read this book should really enjoy it.

Rythmic verses of this rhyming text with fill-in-the-blank style pauses at the end of each stanza help early readers learn to read, young children squeal with glee, and everybody within ear shot get the urge to get up and dance! I might tell you everything so I'm just telling you this....(this is the part that is funny) when Judy got...... well uses a fake hand, in a toilet for her brother, but when he found out I giggled in my mind. Like I was saying, I have to get to the point: read it it's a great book for girls,but if you don't like it you might be a boy.The reason i like it is because it's realistic. I don't like too funny books, plus I didn't know, but the Moodys (Judy's main family) lives in Virginia. Well, this is a really great book. If you want to know, just read it!

Every parent and teacher of third grade children should read this book to themselves then with the kids! What a fresh perspective of childhood from a grown-up. This first book in the Judy Moody Series is very funny to read and the illustrations fit right along with the "mood swings" of Judy Moody.( Get where the name came from?) Judy starts 3rd grade with a bad mood but when she learns they are going to be doing a collogue about themselves her imaginative juices are surfaced.

I laughed a lot during this book and it is really a great book to enjoy with a family. I especially liked the part about the T.P Club( I won't tell you what T.P. stands for!). That was hilirious. I recommend this book to all ages because everyone deserves a good laugh and it doesn't have to be within the 6-10 age limit because ... I loved it!

Judy Moody is a must read for those who like comedy. It is about a girl named Judy who doesn't like this boy named Frank. Frank has feelings for her. Slowly, Judy starts to like her more and more. Judy and her other friend start a club and Rocky, her best friend, says most clubs have three people. Later, they invite Frank because they start to learn Frank is a nice kid. This book is guaranteed to make you laugh.

Judy Moody Gets Famous!

Have you ever heard of Judy Moody Gets Famous? Well you ran into a book that will keep you reading for hours! This book is about a girl that well in my opinion is crazy, but not wacko out of the world, you know has weird friends for example Franky, he collects bugs or Jessica, who is a spelling bee queen! Her brother is named Stink. In this book Judy Moody tries to get famous, her friend Franky brakes his finger, and has to go to the hospital. She goes with him. She has to wait in the waiting room, where she finds a girl that looks pretty bored. Judy asks, "Why aren't you playing with your dolls?" the girl says, "Because one of them has a broken head and they all have torn legs, and their arms are a mess." As usual, Judy Moody gets to work. She wants this girl to have fun. I will not tell you anything else, because then you'd know the whole book.

I think that Judy Moody is very strange but not in a weird way, in a fun way!! She is nice to her friends. She can get in fights sometimes, but always makes up. On the other hand, her family is strange too. I mean, a cat named mouse and a brother named Stink? Talk about weird.
At first Judy Moody freaked me out. Then she got funny. Then hilarious. Then my eyes are stuck on the book.

I love this book so much because it is funny, because her friends have to pick up a frog. Then her friends feel something warm -- guess what that was. There are no books better than Judy Moody. There are no books funnier than Judy Moody. And this is all that I can tell you about this book.

My seven year old daughter loved this book, and I did, too. There was a lot of humor, and my daughter was laughing out loud to parts of it. One thing I appreciated was that the book doesn't talk down to kids, the way I think the "Junie B. Jones" books do (by using improper grammar and words like "bestest" to seem cute). Highly recommended!

Shadows In The Glasshouse is a good book. It has good descriptions. If you like a book that takes a while before the mystery; thats the book. In the book Merry is kidnapped from England and sent to Jamestown. She is forced to work in the glasshouse for five years. She later discovers that this glasshouse is no ordanary glasshouse. There was a murder, a missing book, and broken glass. I recommend this book for anyone. Megan McDonald is a good writer. She gives you a picture in your head. If you don't like this book look for more of Megan McDonald's books because she writes in different styles!!!!!!! She writes many history mysterys!!!!!!!!!

This is the kind of book that gets you thinking,(who did it?). Merry is an orphan and gets kidnapped. She finds herself on a smelly ship headed for Jamestown. Is she going to be a slave, or an indentured servant? How long wil she be there? Will she have enough food and clothes? Well, I'll leave that for you to find out. Her life is a threatening patch of thorn bushes. But at least her best friend, Angelo, is there to comfort her. The problem is that Angelo's new glass formula book is missing!Oh, no! This book is one of the best history mysteries that gets you on the edge of your seat. I like this book because my favorite mystery stories are when there is always trouble for the detective, even when it seems like the detective can almost do nothing wrong. Merry may be in harms way, but she is always on the path of victory! This book makes you want to know (automatically) what is going to happen next. My friends and I (in the fourth grade)have just finished reading it and we recommend it as a high winner with all the similes, metaphors, personifications, and vivid descriptions!
