This was, in many ways McAndrews life work, and was completeled by his wife and published posthumously. It functions as a catalogue to the buildings and monuments buitl during what McAndrew's calls the "Transition" period in Venetian architecure, from about 1460-1500. The transition was from late gothic to early renaissance, and as readers of the book will see, renaissance here had a different connotation than the one we usually associate with Tuscany. In defineing it's renaissance, Venice looked to the east, and took from the classical past of the east certain architectural forms and motifs which came to make up and adorn the buildings of this transition period. It is an essential reference tool for anyone interested in the city and its architecutrel.
