Hallalujah, I'm no longer hospital phobic
I just bought this book and let me tell you, it's the best thing since sliced cheese. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable on health and household medicine but I knew nothing about the process of finding proper care for my family. This very complete and concise book has proven to be a great reference tool and while I haven't had to use it yet (luckily), my wife is now pregnant and I know that it will be an invaluble tool later on. I am very glad that I had purchased it and I encourage everyone who has stumbled across this page to add it to their shopping cart.

The Greatest Medical Guide for my children
I bought this book a day before I had to take my newborn to the doctor. As a new parent, I was afraid for the worst and I had no idea about what to do. Luckily I had the Savvy Mom's Guide to Medical Care, because it helped out me and my wife with our new child. The advice that I was given was informative and clear. It not only calmed me and my wife down, but it pointed us in the right direction and made us feel that we weren't the only people out there with a sick child. I am so glad that this book is out there so that other people can be as comforted as I was in a situation that seems terrible but is not.

A Book That Should Be On Everyone's Shelf
This is a book every parent should keep on the shelf for reference. There comes a time with every child where a parent must go to the hospital or doctor, essentially enter a new world. This book really helps with the tuff questions like what to ask and when to ask for a second opinion. It also has really great tips like how to give a child "yucky" medicine. I reccomend this book to everyone with a child and I hope every child is lucky enough to have parents that are informed in case of an emergency.

Keep this on your book shelf!
When one of my books on medicine and herbal remedies doesn't have the answer I'm looking for, I turn to another. Dr. Giller's great, informational book is just one of the many I turn to, and I find it an invaluable resource for my health. He favors vitamin supplements to herbs, although he does prescribe herbs in many cases. Did you know a zinc lozenge can help cure a cold aore and prevent future ones? That Acidophilis can prevent most fungal infections, like dandruff, vaginitis and cold sores? Giller also has a plan that has helped arthritis sufferers have greater mobility and relief from pain without taking aspirin or stronger drugs. A must-read!

This is a great book, mine is quite dog-eared.
I got this book years ago and it was probably one of the first natural remedy-type books I purchased during a time when I was having many sinus, allergy and overall immunity problems due to too many antibiotics. I wanted natural remedies and direction in healthy healing and prevention. I had no idea what to expect and did not know where to start but I was not dissapointed and still refer to this book regularly to this day, even though I have many other books like this and herbal ones too. This book is great for beginners and those who find strictly herbal remedies and prevention a bit overwhelming or confusing at first. Everyone knows about and is familiar with vitamins and this book really lays out which ones help what ailments, along with some herbal and other natural remedies to get you started.

I found a wealth of information in "Natural Prescriptions," herbal, vitamin, nutrition and more, such as changing eating habits and other preventive ways to improve one's health and cure many common health complaints. There are remedies and vitamin/herb supplement plans for each ailment in the book, and there are probabably 100 or more, just like the cover says, on just about anything you could want, e.g., IBS, sinuses, allergies, arthritis, yeast infections, migranes, digestive troubles, and so much more I can't even think of them all. This book is so good I recommended it to a couple friends who borrowed my copy to try and they kept it so long I barely got it back! (Then they ran out to get their own.) The authors are easy to understand with no medical jargon or new-agey speak, and there are some short case examples of Dr. Giller's patients throughout the book to give you real-life examples. Try it, it works!

Good for offspring of high pressure parents
I am not a parent, but I related to many of the children's stories in this excellent book. I went to competitive schools, where many students struggled with eating disorders and substance abuse. We were expected to apply and to attend Ivy League colleges. This book very much helped me understand the origins of this culture of success by any means necessary. I also gained a deeper insight into why I hold certain values and this book, which is well written and so very witty, empowered me to re-examine those values and to see if they were really mine or in fact if they were someone else's.

Alternatives supported by case studies of real kids
There's been much publicity about parents who push their children to achieve beyond their abilities and years: so how can parents avoid suffocating children, yet encourage them to do their best? With No More Push Parenting, parents receive a guide filled with insights on how to encourage their kids to measure up, without pushing too hard. Dr. Guthrie provides alternatives supported by case studies of real kids; some of whom are achieving, others are not.

The only 'diet' that works for me
I have had this book for years. Whenever I feel that my jeans don't fit comfortably anymore, I take out this book and reevaluate what I am eating. I agree with the previous review; it's a shame that people focus on what to eliminate, rather than how to improve your choices.

It's the best method for me. I make sure that I'm getting enough nutripoints for the day, and that virtually eliminates (okay, reduces) the negative things I eat or drink, like tiramisu or a diet coke, or a glass of wine. When I know that romaine lettuce has a much higher nutritional count than iceberg lettuce, I make the smarter choice. And since there are hundreds of items in each category, I even know which brand of bread will give me the best points per bite.

Simple way to pursue good nutrition OR lose weight
This is not a calorie or fat gram counter. The authors have given approximately 2500 foods (prepared or fresh) a nutritional value according to vitamin, calorie, fat, cholesterol, and caffeine content. If a food has no nutritional value, including no fat or cholesterol, why bother eating it?...it gets a low number, like a 2. If the food provides the body with much needed vitamins, moisture, protein, etc., the value goes up - some cereals have a value of 75 pionts for one serving because they have high vitamin and mineral content and low fat and calorie content. The object of this Nutripoints game is to try and earn 100 points a day. Even if you have a candy bar and a cup of coffee for breakfast which will give you a 3 point score , you still have the whole day to get your points up to 100! After only a couple of days I fell for the game. I found myself looking at food for its nutritional value , "is this worth eating, it's only 5 points?". Wow, this sweet roll is only 8 points, but this bowl of cereal is 75 points, and if I add some strawberries I can make my quota for the day! By following this Nutripoints theory, you find yourself trying to eat all those things to add up points, not trying to keep them down (as with fat gram counting)by denying yourself as much as your willpower can stand. It's a shame this approach to healthy eating didn't take off as well as others, because it's so much fun

A remarkable anthology of twenty-four poets
The Franconia, New Hampshire, farm of the American poet Robert Frost was turned into a museum and center for poetry and the arts in 1976. From that time, "The Frost Place" has been annual event wherein an emerging poet has been invited to spend the summer living in the house where Frost once lived and wrote some of his greatest poetry. The Breath Of Parted Lips: Voices From The Robert Frost Place, Volume One is a remarkable anthology of twenty-four poets, each of whom won that honor of a summer's residency and document the success of the original concept as a means of generating outstanding poetry while nurturing the poet's muse in the rooms and views that were once the inspiration of the great Robert Frost. Poem At 40: Windwashed--as if standing next to the highway,/a truck long as the century sweeping by,/all things at last bent in the same direction./An opening, as if all/the clothes my ancestors ever wore/dry on lines in my body:/wind-whipped, parallel with the ground,/some sleeves sharing a single clothespin/so that they seem to clasp hands,/seem to hold on.//And now that I can see/up the old women's dresses,/there's nothing but a filtered light./And now that their men's smoky breath/has traversed the earth,/it has nothing to do with them./And now that awkward, fat tears of rain/slap the window screen,/now that I'm naked too,/cupping my genitals, tracing with a pencil/the blue vein between my collar bone and breast,/I'll go to sleep when I'm told.

Highly recommended for those who care about their health.
This is one of those books that you need to re-read at regular intervals as you slip back into the common western lifestyle. The authors identify the synergistic effects of bad habits, eg too much sugar, fat and alcohol and too little exercise, and provide an easy "little-willpower" program to control them. It has one of the most effective programs for stopping smoking that I have read

EVERY FAMILY SHOULD KEEP A COPY AT HOME
Best advices and honest opinions are given here. Well written in clear simple language - easy read. Eventhough it was published in 1994, it is still the best book I've seen so far for the treatments and preventions of general diseases. I wish I had it earlier.

Good Advise
I loved the book! As a parent raising three teenage children in this very competitive world, this book was a dose of reality. Sometimes you find yourself caught up in how things "look" rather than what's right for your children. This book made me take a closer look at my children and what their individual strengths and interests are, and how I can nurture them to become happy and successful adults. I especially liked the Strategies chapter, which offers some hands on tips for situations that are familiar to many parents. The book was an easy read, with a friendly tone and a sense of humor that made you feel good about your children and what you can do to help them in a positive way when you were finished reading it.

Help for Gifted Parents
Kathy Matthews offers no-nonsense advice with a sense of humor. This how-to-parent-and-feel-good-about-yourself book is a must read. . .and, along with Jim Trelease's book on reading aloud to your children, will certainly become a standard baby shower gift from me in the coming years. Matthews speaks with the authority of a mother comfortable in her own skin--and with her own children. Brava, Ms. Matthews!

A must read for parents
In "The Trouble with Perfect" Dr. Guthrie offers a unique and much needed perspective on raising children in this modern age of competition to always be the best and have the best. Not only is this important book enlightening and refreshing in its content and message to parents, it is enjoyable, easy to read and funny while exploring serious and difficult topics. This book is a "must read" not only for parents, but for all adults who spend time and interact with today's children.

Maximum Metabolism
I read 60 pages of this book and had to put it down. The authors advice is way out there for practical living. Your food choices are not very practical and he encourages people to take supplemental pills and powders from the health food store. I have been on many diets before and found these quick fixes don't work. The only reason I brought this book was because I was interested in increasing my Metabolism. I personally think it would be impossible in today's age to not eat red meat, butter, cheese, eggs, nuts, ice cream etc. The best diets I found that work are one that don't limit your food choices. Weight Watchers and Suzanne Somers diets are good. Suzanne Somers does limit some food (maybe 10 or so items), but not like Dr. Giller.

This system works!
The best thing i can say about Dr. Giller's approach is that it works; I came across this book in the early 90s and lost a quick 15 pounds and then got derailed; over the years i gained more weight than I ever imagined--slowly, two - three pounds a year. I turned around last thanksgiving and was disgusted with myself; my clothes weren't fitting and i felt out of control. I pulled this book off my bookshelf one sleepless night, and vowed to implement this system which had previously worked for me. It did; in about seven weeks, i have dropped 20 pounds. The significant thing about this book is that the concepts here can be applied over a lifetime, and it is not hard, once you get going. The big distinguishing factor between this and say, Atkins, is that you can have some carbs (in the a.m.) and you can have fruit. His supplement recommendations also help eliminate craving, and once you see the results, it is hard to argue. Had Dr. Giller lived, I am sure this book would be revised and reissued, but, the good news is, it works without any further revisions.

Good, sensible and easy to follow
This is a diet that doesn't require eating the same meals during the time period that one is on the diet, finally.
It's full of good advice connected with good eating habits and has simple recipes that are sensible, quick, simple and wholesome, allowed me to be creative and the ingredients are what I already had on my shelf and in the refrigerator, I only had to teach myself to eat less of them. The herbs and spices used in each recipe has allows using much less salt and pepper in foods and they bring out the foods taste.
It was rough during those 21 days and I was tempted greatly throughout them to quit cause I was used to eating lots of food, more food than I needed, but I weighed less each time I stepped on that scale, my clothes were fitting more loosely, and I could begin to picture myself in a smaller size of clothing and I would ask myself if I wanted to lose this weight bad enough to keep on with the diet or go back to looking like I was and weighing what I did.
As soon as I began with the recipes and eating habits I found myself waking up earlier in the morning and not in a fog mentally, having enough energy to get me through the day without needing a nap, and I'm not a junk food junkie anymore.
This diet was so helpful for me that I've recommended it to everyone who asked me how I lost the weight and kept it off cause it's such a good guide to better eating habits.
