It's too long.......
I mean it's too long waiting for Andrew new book and thank God it is finally here.

Still the same Andrew that uplift your life and "Make Your Life Working", again!

Love it till the last drop..... Have been reading this book for more than 3 times and still feel like going for more.. It's like medicine in your life. When your life seem not working, pick this book up and read it then you'll know what I mean.

Wonderful Guide for life!
This book deals with alot about living life, how to succeed, have a peace of mind, and be happy. The format is fun, the concepts are easy to understand, and I would happily say that this book is the best of Andrew Mattews. If you are thinking about reading Being Happy as well, I will first mention that the concepts in these two books are similar, except I think this one is more organized, especially since the author became more skilled in writing and expresses himself better in this one. This review is written in my humble opinion, and anyone who does not agree with me, don't get all excited. If you are mad, maybe you should read the book again :-) jm

Andrew Matthews is one smart cookie...
This is the third book by Andrew that I have read. After reading Being Happy and Making Friends, I was quick to purchase this one, since I couldn't agree more with Andrew's philosphy on life. His writing is clear, direct, and easy to read and understand. His no-nonsense approach to problem solving and taking control of your own destiny is as good as it gets. And he offers real,practical,how-to advice for those who are looking to move beyond their ho-hum everyday lives. I would recommend this book to everyone, and especially those who need to dust themselves off and start all over again!

J.M. Barrie and the Lost Boys
Published in Hardcover by Outlet (October, 1979)
Author: Andrew Birkin

Sad and beautiful story - ...
Wonderful news ... a new edition of this book will be released in paperback ..., available through Amazon.
Birkin completed the book when adapting the story of J M Barrie for a BBC mini-series, The Lost Boys. As well as writing Peter Pan, Barrie was in his time, regarded as a playwright the equal of George Bernard Shaw. That his work quickly fell out of favour may be due to its pathos and close relation to Barrie's own life.
I stumbled across this book over ten years ago, and its poignancy, honestly and power have been with me ever since.
It centres around the Llewelyn Davies family, which became the inspiration for Peter Pan, but went on to have an even more profound impact upon the life of the melancholic Scottish playwright.
As one of the protagonists later wrote, the masses of photographs (extensively reproduced in the book) seem to foretell the whole sad story. Indeed, Birkin's strength is allowing the story to unfold through letters, images and quotation from Barrie's surprisingly autobiographical work. What emerges is the finest of biographies. Peter Pan acquires a whole new sad significance in the light of this book, and it captures the fading Edwardian twighlight exquisitely.
Upon the death of the last of the Llewelyn Davies boys (after first publication), the majority of the material used in the book was bequeathed to Birkin, a ringing endorsement of his sensitive and perceptive retelling of the story.
I cannot recommend this book too highly.

Absolutely Haunting -- Stranger and More Moving than Fiction
I first read this book roughly ten years ago. It is still one of my all-time favorites. The beautiful and tragic lives of the Llewellyn-Davies family, and their beauty caught in intimate pictures, reminds one of the Romanovs. This book is a very loving, close portrait of the relationship between JM Barrie--the playwright of Peter Pan (and numerous other plays and books)and an Edwardian family composed of five charming, beautiful, intelligent boys. The boys' parents (one of whom is the daughter of George du Maurier [author of Trilby] -- the boys' cousin is Daphne du Maurier) both die young, leaving them orphans in the care of JM Barrie. The book contains astonishingly beautiful photographs, diary entries, letters, etc. The truth of the story gives it a charm and tragedy mere fiction lacks. I can't recommend it highly enough.

The Lost Man-Boy
Barrie must be one of the 20th C's most under-rated and misinterpreted writers. This beautiful and haunting book helps interpret his writing, especially that maudlin classic of hopeless nostalgia Peter Pan. Look in this book beyond the fragile elegance of the Edwardian world, and the beautiful children frozen forever in time by Barrie's camera and there's tragedy. Everyone, Arthur, Michael, Jack and especially Barrie himself comes to a sticky end. It well illustrates that old morality tale: be very careful about what you wish for -it may come true. I agree it's a tragedy this book has slipped out of print.

Great Resource
For my senior seminar, I wrote a paper on desegregation/busing in the South. While I was doing research, a librarian found this book for me. I had to wait 2 weeks to get it through interlibrary loan, but it was worth it!! The essays really bring home the complexity of Southern desegregation when viewed through the lens of class issues. I can only aspire to produce such insightful scholarship!

TKE-- THE UNTOLD STORIES
WHAT A CHARMING PIECE ON THE ANTEBELLUM SOUTH. CRAFTED WITH PURE GENIOUS AND A PEN FOR DETAIL, "THE MODERATES' DILEMMA" BRINGS TO LIGHT THE UNDENIABLE OBSTINANCE OF THE SOUTH'S PREMIERE SCHOOL DISTRICTS.THIS WORK IS A MUST READ FOR HISTORY GRADS OF ANY BACKGROUND.

A book whose magnitude is monumental.
Matthew Lassiter, editor-in-chief of this seminal collection, sets forth, once again, a fresh standard of scholarly excellence and eloquence. His essay, "A 'Fighting Moderate,'" illustrates one of his innumerable intellectual virtues, the ability to electrify his arduously acquired historian's sobriety with an innate psychological acuity.

Excellent! Comprehensive.
NeuroTheology is an excellent, comprehensive, scholarly text which begins at the beginning (the Creation) and ends at the end (Armageddon). Some of the best, most daring minds in the science of religious experience, have chapters included in this book, including Newberg, Persinger, Alper, Albright, d'Aquili, Bruce MacLennan, and Fraser Watts of the University of Cambridge. ... this is otherwise an excellent, comprehensive text which deserves a place on the bookshelf of any serious scientist.

Provocative & Ground Breaking.
This is a provocative and ground breaking book. NeuroTheology contains 34 chapters written by 20 different experts, including Michael Persinger (who many consider the father of the field), Rhawn Joseph (who Newberg refers to as one of the founders of the field), Dr. Paloutzian (the editor of the International Journal of the Psychology of Religion), Dr. Albright (the former Executive Editor of Zygon the Journal of Science & Religion), and a host of others including those who do not believe in NeuroTheology. The value of this book is that it offers so many different perspectives. It is 644 pages in length, contains over 100 pictures, and addresses and answers many provocative questions regarding the nature, origin, and scientific basis of spirituality and religious belief.

A Book Light Years Ahead of Its Time.
This is a great and wonderful, sometimes disturbing book. It is clearly ahead of its time. The chapters range from discussions of the big bang and the origin of life to the coming of the "anti-Christ" --an astronomical event which, according to the author, has to do with "precession" and the slow progression of the equinox from "house to house" i.e. the Age of Pieces (the Fish) and the Virgo (Virgin) being replaced by the Age of Acqurious and Leo (the Beast). I also enjoyed the chapters by Newberg and Persinger which provide an overview of the neuroanatomy and neurochemistry of religious experience. The chapters by Alper were also very interesting. I guess what I liked best about this book is that it is very scientific yet offers a variety of opinions from a number of different scientists. There are over 30 chapters. The only major flaw in this book, were the rather superficial and boring chapters by "pop" writer Susan Blackmore. Why anyone takes her serious is beyond me. I highly recommend this book. It has something for everybody.

Highly intellectual evaluation of modern global ideology
Intriguingly insightful, Matthews and Ingersoll explore fundamental maxims of the basic ideologies of global politicial and philosophical politics. I am mesmerized by the roots of their research, and also am captivated by their research and interpretation of various thinkers and philosophers of each ideology. A must read for anyone interested in the ubiquitous pursuit of unravelling the many perspectives of motivation of world leaders and thinkers.

Great
Highly recommended. If you are interested in exploring different ideologies around the world, you will find this book very helpful.

The Doo Wop Bible
Get it. Very well done book. It just about have anythimg you want to know except for the kitchen sink, but who cares for the kitchen sink this is Doo Wop.

A comprehensive book everyone who likes doo wop should have
In recent years, due primarily to the PBS series on Doo Wop, this musical genre is being rediscovered. Finally, there is a comprehensive book on the who's, why's and what's of the definitive music of the 50's and early 60's.

Although this book sometimes over-emphasizes the specific sounds of the music (shoop de doop etc.) and spends too much time on certain groups, it is a great (and relatively inexpensive) resource for song titles. I especially liked the chapter on song styles from different parts of the country.

If it has a weakness, it isn't as comprehensive a guide on specific groups as is Jay Warner's book on singing groups. Still, all in all it is an excellent resource guide and a book any Doo Wop afficianado should have in a collection.

Very Informative
nowadays it's hard to get folks to sing on key.but this book showcases many great Acts that had there stuff together&were the real deal.you get alot of insightful information that details the great stuff from the good stuff.a solid comprehensive book that is very detailed&on point all the way through.this is a very important form of Creativity that needs to be fully appreciated by many.it's the basic for Harmony in any group that wants to be taken seriously as a vocal group.a must have great facts&insight.

700 years old and still going strong
I remember slogging through The Canterbury Tales in Middle English when I was in high school and although the language is beautiful, having to take time to decipher it all did diminish somewhat the enjoyment of a terrific collection of stories. Since most of us are more comfortable with modern English, a good translation makes all the difference, and Nevill Coghill's excellent translation does full version to Chaucer's book. Reading this version takes the work out of it and makes "The Canterbury Tales" a pure pleasure. Chaucer writes about everyman and his stories represent one of the motliest crews in English literature: the Wife of Bath who has put away five husbands and is looking for a sixth; the pardoner, the reeve, the clerk, the knight, and a host of others from all walks of life. There is something in here for everyone; my three favorite stories are the Pardoner's Tale; the Miller's Tale (reading this in Coghill's translation, I could see why it has been excised from the bowdlerized versions used in high school English classes; it's rude, crude and downright lewd, but it's so hysterical they had to sew my sides up again when I finally stopped laughing), and the Franklin's tale of the knight, the squire and the magician who outdo each other in chivalry. Antisemitism was commonplace in medieval Europe and Chaucer is no more free of it than anyone else of his time; but to say that The Canterbury Tales is not worth reading because Chaucer was true to his time is overstatement. One must accept that Chaucer was as human and imperfect as most of his peers; without compromising the fact that Chaucer was a literary genius who had a profound effect on English language and English literature.

Canterbury Tales can be fun to read
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer is one of the first great works of literature in the English language and are good reading for a number of reasons. They are written in "old English", however, and read like a foreign language for most of us. Barbara Cohen's adapted translation gives us four of the tales in contemporary English and therefore provides an excellent introduction to Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Cohen's tales retain Chaucer's colorful insight into fourteenth century England including life as a knight, the horror of the plague, and the religous hypocrisy of the age. The illustrations by Trina Schart Hyman are vivid and tell a story all by themselves. I use Cohen's book as a supplement to teaching medieval history and literature to 7th and 8th graders.

A great, easy-to-read retelling of Chaucer's tales
The biggest hurdle in reading Chaucer is the language. Trying to read his work in Middle English is impossible without really good footnotes, and some of the "translations" are even worse--they're written in a high-blown, pompous style that takes all the fun out of the stories.

All this being so, I was delighted to find the Puffin Classics version retold by Geraldine McCaughrean! The tales are told in an easy-to-read, flowing style that captures the bawdy humor of the originals, without being over-crass (this is a children's book, after all.) I found myself often laughing out loud, and wishing I'd found this version much sooner, because it makes Chaucer fun to read! I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to try Chaucer but feels intimidated by the scholarly-looking versions available in the "Literature and Classics" sections. You won't become expert in reading Middle English, but you WILL see why The Canterbury Tales has such a wonderful reputation!

The best book for self improvement
This would definitely be one of the best books I have ever read in this category. I bought this book on a day when I was feeling very low and sad. I sincerely believe in doing things that make you happy when you are sad, and one of those things for me is get into a bookstore and fill my library. This attitude is one of the advice that Andrew Mathews has suggested in his book. The chapter on setting goals and fulfilling it is fantastic. The cartoons depicting each chapter and topics are amusing and makes reading much more interesting. From my point of view and observation in this world I find that lot of people have a negative attitude even before they start working towards what they want in life, be it happiness, a goal, etc etc. This book is a must for such people. Andrew has pointed very well that we have to believe that we can do it and then set about doing anything in life. Think positive and believe you can do it even before you start anything. This book helped me in changing my attitude towards life, my marriage (in which i am very happy), and most important my belief in myself. Today I am working towards reducing my weight by swimming everyday. Thanks to Andrew Mathews for raising my spirit of life.
