Ready to tackle the CCNA!
I just finished reading this book cover to cover and feel very confident about moving on to the next stage of my CCNA preparation, practice tests and simulation! I've been using the CCExam software from CCStudy.com as well as a few other practice tests and am amazed how easy a lot of the questions were after reading this book. Just an indication of how comprehensive this book is.

More important, in my opinion, is the book's "readability"! I'm sure there are numerous books that cover the exact same information as this book yet might not be written in a manner that is clear and simple to understand, especially for Cisco newbies like myself. This book is just a lot of fun to read.

Finally, I really enjoyed the "real world" tone of this title. It isn't written for someone who's bound for the testing center, but rather for someone who needs to apply the knowledge at work in the field. I'm certain that I'll constantly be using this book as a reference even after passing the exam. Very cool.

All in all, I'd like to recommend ICND to the Cisco neophyte who's looking for that great "First Book" to start off his or her Cisco library. I'm really glad I got this book and I'm sure you will be too.

Good luck on your CCNA!

Excellent Book........
I read ICND by Cisco Press before. I found this book used on Amazon and bought it just because it was cheap. Now I can not put it down. This book is far better than Cisco Press' ICND. It has about 100 more pages than Cisco's. To me it is worth every minute spent to read this book.
I passed CCNA in December. So, I don't have the exam pressure. I am reading this just for fun and enjoying it.
I strongly recommend it over Cisco's ICND if you intent to take CCNA test.

MUST have for CCNA2.0!
I pass ccna2.0 with 935/1000 today. All I have is this book and Boson exams. I've read my friend's Todd Lammle book. I think this book is much better than Todd's. Todd's is written for passing the exam. For the ICND book, you actally learn the CCNA stuff in depth. I strongely recommend this book for everyone who want to pass the CCNA2.0 with FULLY understanding.

Turning Love into a Gift
The collection that the Masons have built out of a love of art, craftmanship and wood turns into a real gift to those who do not have the luxury to study these pieces first-hand. The photos of their home shows that their attraction with creation is not limited to wood but to light, paintings and melding life with art.

The photos display the pieces so well that some just seem to glow and brighten on the page. It makes it difficult to look at a tree or salad bowl without imagining the possiblities.

Excellent section on diet, medications, etc.
The focus of this book is not on memory techniques such as the LOCI method and while it does mention them and explain them briefly it does not give a lot of detail about them.
Instead it focuses on memory problems as a normal part of aging, medications and diet. Through out the book it mentions Alzheimers and similar concerns and repeatedly speaks about not being concerned about particular memory lapses as you grow older.
It does have thorough coverage of memory myths and how some of these myths create or contribute memory problems as well as the best coverage of diet, medicine, supplements and similar factors of any of the memory books that I have read.
This is a workbook with many excercises to prove their points as well as show how various techniques work and how storing and retrieving memories works in the mind.
If I were asked who I would recommend this book to then it would have to be people in one of two groups. First would be anyone who is aging and thinks that they are having memory lapses more often and are concerned about them. Second would be those who want to know what drugs, nutritional supplements and dietary factors may increase or harm their mental capacities.

Memory Plus
This book is a great self help tool not only in the area of memory - but in using the power of positive thinking.

Right from the start the exercises give you power to enhance your memory by teaching techniques to pay attention, to associate and to accept your own abilities.

For anyone who has a tendancy to forget, you can learn your strengths, boost your weaknesses and even smile at them. If you fear Aging, Alzheimers, Dimentia or Senility - there is an explanation that is understandable. Medication, Depression and other factors that can alter one's memory are also described.

I would recommend this book to anyone who suffers from or knows someone else who has concerns regarding his or her memory.

Memory Workbook
I'm writing this review because I really liked a lot of aspects of the book. I recommended it to my friends, so I figured I'll recommend it to internet users as well. I've read some other books on memory improvement, but I think this book was more engaging. It includes most of the principles found in the other memory books I've read, but this book seemed to make it more cohesive. I think the other aspect I enjoyed was the emphasis on personal attitudes. It honestly left me with a new perspective on growing old. Also I felt the book spoke well to some of the sometimes-negative feelings I've had about growing old (to be honest I was surprised by just how many negative perceptions I had that this book revealed to me - and corrected, so to speak). Actually, the more I think about it, the more I can say I really liked the book and do highly recommend it. Enjoy

How to Write a Winning College Application Essay

A helpful book
Of the many books on college that I've brought home for my offspring to look at, _How to Write a Winning College Application Essay_ is the first that my daughter read.

The book is well organized and has interesting topics. My favorite was the chapter of essays gone wrong, and the intelligent discussion of what went wrong with them. My daughter spent hours on the writing exercises--though she hates her writing about herself--and I think they helped her. The tone of this book is helpful, not the least bit condescending, as it points out errors of content, style and tone that can hurt the applicant's chances.

If you don't know where to start, start here
This best part of this book is that it has a large section (50+ pages) on how to gather the raw material on your life that can help you find the material for your essay. If you have no idea who your hero is or what adversity you've overcome, this will help you find your story and the supporting antecdotes that make your essay stand out. Mason also gives very specific instructions on how to write a good essay. This would be a good book for someone who wants some guidance turning ideas into a workable essay. It also has short chapters in writing essays for the SAT II English test, graduate school admissions and scholarship essays.

The Lost World should have stayed lost
This novel didn't appeal to me as much as the first Jurassic Park.Micheal Crihton should have left Ian Malcolm out of this story because any person who had suffered a life threatening experience like he had to face, would never go back to a similar place to Jurassic Park . The first novel had a plot which connected to everything in the story. This Novel was basically go to the Island, run from Dinosaurs, then escape from the Island. In the begining of the book Dinosaurs were being washed up on beaches in Costa Rica. The only reason they were going to go to the island was to see what was driving these creatures into the ocean. It never came out with why the dinosaurs were swimming from the island. There was some good action throughout the book . I was disappointed with this novel and that is why I only gave it 3 Stars.

Exciting Book; Keeps You Glued To Your Seat
The Lost World is even more exciting than Jurrasic Park. It has lots of twists and turns that should make you lose track of time and miss class. The main thing that made the book exciting is that it has missing links to the first book in the sequel.

I recomend this to anybody that likes blood and horrer.
Like i said before i recomend this book to anybody that likes blood and horrer,i saw the movie and it was scary but when i saw the book i was so amaized that i bought it and i read it over and over again and again.I think the book was better than the movie because they added more action and more of the scarry stuff and I know im going to read it again but i probibley wont right again but you can find another one of my coments in a book cald Desparete Persute,my name is JESSE GALINDO if you can find me.

The Dream and the Awakening: An Eye Opener
I was immediately drawn into Mr. Mason's book, "The Dream and the Awakening," for I could relate. I was going through a divorce, fighting the soul mate myth to which my now ex-wife was drawn. Mr. Mason's honest portrayal of Aaron's matrimonial demise will ring true to anyone who is involved in a relationship based on lust and physical attraction.

This true story draws us into a world of lies and deceit. We are introduced to a couple, the man is married and the woman is single. The reader intuitively feels that this relationship has a half-life of six months. However, the focus character, Aaron, couldn't see through the haze of his passion that he was taking foolish risks and placing his family in jeopardy.

Mr. Mason provides us with a bird's eye view of the stupidity of an American male thinking with the wrong head. If the situation in which Aaron placed himself wasn't so frustratingly stupid, we'd be forced to laugh.

"The Dream and the Awakening: A True Story That Exposes the Soul Mate Myth," is an eye opener for anyone considering commitment based on lust. By the time you finish this book, you will have a deeper awareness of the nature of true love, and the fallacy of the myth we call, "soul mate." Don't miss this heart felt passionate page turner.

Trains are not necessarilly required for a trainwreck
Question: What is worse than watching a train wreck?

Answer: Watching a train wreck in slow motion.

As difficult as it is to avert one's eyes from an impending train wreck, so it is with Michael Mason's new book. With every page turned, the wreck of a marriage lies just ahead, just around the bend, and the protaganist, unable or unwilling to halt impending doom stands idly by as the surrounding landscape of his life sweeps past.

"A real page turner". "Couldn't put it down." The reader knows where the train is going, knows the wreckage will soon be strewn, with lives lost, and much to be mourned. And page after page, a life passes in slow motion, with time aplenty to stop the destruction, but without the will to apply the brakes. A fascinating glimpse into a marriage whose wreckage lies clearly at the feet of the protagonist.

Highly Recommended
This is quite an amazing story. It reads like a fast-paced novel, with great characterization, dialogue and plot. It shows what can happen to someone who falls "in" love after buying into, what the author calls the soul mate myth. Aaron, the protagonist, comes across as a "gen-thinking" womanizer at first. Read the book to find out what gen-think means. Aaron trys despertely to do right by his family, but, as always happens in these situations, someone is going to get hurt. Just when you think the situation is going to be resolved, Aaron makes another "u-turn" and off it goes again, making you turn pages fast to see what's going to happen next. I found myself looking forward to coming home from work so I could get back into it. Very didactic.

Hutchisons clinical methods
I used this book through out medical school. It helped me with developing and then fine tuning my skills in history taking and physical examination. It is a must buy for every medical student.

A classic for all times
This book has been for many decades the bedrock of clinical skill education for many medical students and residents alike particularly with British oriented education. It is next only to the stethoscope in the must-have category. I find the layout in the recent editions particularly refreshing. The book maintains it's unique ability of providing useful and in depth background for clinical examinations as well as their various interpretation, while not overburdened you with unnecessary details. It played a significant role in my medical education and continues to provide useful and practical tips even in my practice.

Jane Eyre

Average review score:

A love story to last another 200 years...and more
It was a book my Grandmother told me I should read. I just decided to buy it on impulse really, not knowing what I was getting myself into. I opened the book and was immedeately swept into Jane Eyre's world. My mind played out all of the scenes as I read, only a truly masterful piece of work could create images so strongly right from the start. Charlotte Bronte creates a masterful work of art on the pages of this book.

When the book begins, you are taken into Jane's childhood, and given a sense of what it's like to have no love, and no hope of the future. You can actually see the pain on Jane's face. Then at Lowood, you learn with her, and grow with her. Finally, on the night she arrives at Thornfield Hall you are overcome with anticipation for Jane. What is this life going to be like? Then when Edward Rochester appears, you hate him. You can't believe that he talks to her that way. After a while though, things soften, and Miss Bronte introduces a new feeling. Love. The painting seems complete when Jane and Mr. Rochester confess their feelings, and you wonder, what could possibly be better than this? The ending,(which I won't give away)is absolutely breathtaking. I cried for a half an hour when I read it. It was at four in the morning mind you,(the book was so good I could not put it down.)

The characters in the novel are whole, they seem like real people. Charlotte Bronte uses her pen to paint a wonderful picture, one can not help but be engulfed in the color. The book has lasted almost 200 years, I see no reason why it could not last forever. If you ever want to read a classic love story that defines the power of women in literature, then Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre is it. I'm 16 years old, and if a teenager can be moved to tears while reading, it must be quite a piece of literature. I walked away feeling like I had taken an amazing journey, and found a new friend in Jane Eyre.

Sign of a good book: number of cracks in the binding
Just imagine. You're reading along, you come to a place in the bok that captures your attention. You're completely engulfed by the story, you're not reading it, you're living it! The "real" world is gone. You hear neither phone nor voice. You feel neither hunger nor thirst. You feel only what the author's pen tells you to feel. You are eager to read on. Your eyes cannot read the enthralling story fast enough. In your frenzied haste to know more, you grip the book tighter and bend it back, cracking the binding.
Years later when you pick the very same book up again, you can tell the scary, happy, or sad parts of the book by the location of the creases. Jane Eyre is such a book. It is one of three or four books who contentend for the multiple-crack champion.

I was assigned to read this book for an AP English class. Although I love to read, class-assigned books had a dubious history with me. Most, I felt, were boring or too pessimistic to find favor with me. I had heard many people talk about the book favorably after having read it in middle school. I put my hope in their past experiences and began to read. Although the first pages did not entirely confirm the praises the book had recieved, the book so far surrpassed my expectations that I finished the book in only a few days time! I would have read non-stop if it had been within my means to do so. When I did get the chance to read, I read as much as I could to the exclusion of food and family sometimes!

You may be wondering what about this book could make me such a fanatic. Well, I could give you deep literary criticism about the symbolism, the metaphors, or the imagery, but that doesn't really help you enjoy the story more, it only rounds out the meaning. Instead, let me tell you why you want to read this book.

This book combines passion and logic. An odd combination that don't often go together. Jane Eyre starts out in life full of passion and emotions, through torture and schooling, she learns to control her feelings and be ruled by logic. As she moves through life she struggles to find a balance between what her emotions tell her and what logic demands. Logic helps her through times when she feels abandoned and emotions guide her back to love when the tables are turned.
This book skillfully combines elements from nearly all genre and is sure to please anyone. It has action, romance, comedy, suspence, even the supernatural! This book is sure to put cracks in YOUR binding

a beautiful, heart-warming, heroic story for ages to come
I just finished reading "Jane Eyre" for my grade twelve English class. I borrowed the book from my school library. About four chapters into the book, I returned the novel to the library, and went out that night to get my own copy.

I cannot express in words how this novel has touched my heart. The musical nor the movie will never ever return the stirring of emotion that I felt for Jane's character while reading it from the creative and romantic mind of Charlotte Brontë. I did cry when Jane witnessed the death of her very best friend, Helen Burns, in Lowood School. I felt bitter and angry when Mr. Rochester did not tell Jane about his first wife, but I also felt relieved when Jane and Mr. Rochester rekindled their love to face a new life together.

If there is one novel that will ever touch my heart, look at my life as a woman, and respect the heroics that women of past ages have undergone, this is the novel.

Jane Eyre: this will be a novel respected for ages to come.

Monterey: Furnishings of California's Spanish Revival
Nice referane book. Great examples of the product. A must buy book for collectors as well as finge enthusists. Would love to see more great work.

Fun stuff
Roger Renick did a fine job pulling together pieces for the lovely book (and the show at the Santa Monica Historical Society was terrific). Some of the pieces featured are rare treasures, indeed, and it says alot that those who are passionate about Monterey shared their collections. Having written about Monterey Furniture and met some fascinating -- and always fun loving-- collectors, I was happy to see a book on the subject. ...

The wait for a guide to Monterey & Spanish Revival is over!
This wonderful book guides you through the history of Monterey and Spanish Revival furniture in pictures and text. Both Monterey and Spanish Revival styles have been long overlooked in standard furniture guides. This book is straight forward, informative, and contains numerous color photos of furniture, artwork and pottery. A great guide for identification of manufacturers and finishes! The only thing that would possibly make this better is a prce guide.
