Great Coffee Table book
This is simply a picture book of a bunch of baseball games with some organization and text fill. The games are organized by century (18th & 19th), and by type (player-endorsed, non-endorsed, card, action and coin-operated). There's a bit of baseball history, but what you'll want this for is the attention to historical detail in the games themselves. There are hundreds of games photographed in a reasonable (if not exceptional) amount of detail; most of the text is just a description of what's in the pictures. Many versions of popular games are compared, with information on how to tell the versions apart, which will be invaluable if you're a collector. For some reason there's four pages on Cadaco, but neither APBA nor Strat-O-Matic get a look in, nor do more contemporary games from 3M or Sports Illustrated or Avalon Hill. Don't expect a forty-dollar art book with prose that'll entertain you into the night. The printing quality, photo quality, and text-quality are only so so. I'm still waiting for the book that compares how the different games are designed strategically and how they play. This one's aimed more at collectors.

Great Caricatures and excellent instruction.
I am a clay artist and I used this book to teach me how to carve caricatures in clay. I loved the outcome and learned a great deal from Pete Leclair. I had borrowed the book from the library and liked it well enough to order my own copy.

Gorgeous, full-color book with a wealth of information, pics
I'd say this was a must for those interested in Black collectibles. It has everything I look for in a good collector's book - a wealth of full-color photos on every page, all of decent size and many even larger than one would expect. The variety of items represented covers the range from toys, games, books and banks to advertising, music, Golliwoggs, cards, flat art, household items, clocks, watches and more. There is a basic, if not overly detailed, price guide and a fair amount of historical information. Unless the reader is already an expert in the history and value of Black collectibles, I'd say there will be plenty of new information here. It was a delight just looking through this one- although, as expected, some of the collectibles may be seen as offensive to contemporary eyes (or one would hope), representing a view of Black Americans that was taken for granted when the items were made.

Earrings & Pins: Easy, Fun and Unique
64 pages, full color, 20 page gallery. Step by step color photos w/ instructions for making earrings and pins. Judy's basic idea is turn a shallow/thin bowl, saw it into pieces on the scroll saw, sand the edges on a spindle sander, decorate the pieces with paint (optional). Add jewelry findings and jewelry making beads, with one or more of the wooden pieces to create earrings and pins. I love doing this, it's easy, fun and the earrings don't even have to be duplicates. What a great idea.

Very good guide for the neophite wood hacker.
I liked this book. The quality of color and pictures guide you thru reasonable steps in making a wood face carving using a minimum of wood. Most books jump over steps and leave the reader wondering what should have been done in between. I have other of T Wolfes books and this is a better one in my opinion. A feature I would also like to see in his /any carving book would be more commentary on the use of 'grain' and how to get around the rough cuts that always deter from making a smooth carve.

Excellent Photography
I was very impressed with the quality of the photographs in this book. For a project with this much detail, a picture is worth more than 1000 words and I feel that the construction process is covered in great detail. The book has very little actual text, more like a step by step collection of photographs with captions and details. At the end of the book, a set of plans is included for use in the construction process.

Beautiful book... Could offer more information...
This book has a brief introduction followed by many outstanding color photographs of African sculpture, including figures and masks. For each of 19 countries, there is a list of the major tribes, the predominant religious beliefs, and when the country gained its independence. The photography is excellent and it gives you an idea of the types of artwork that are representative of the different regions and tribes. The book also lists the dimensions and pricing of each work. I would have liked to have seen more information about the tribal traditions in which some of the objects are used. It would also have helped to see some suggestions on how to tell whether a work is real or has been faked. Overall though, it's a beautiful book.

An easy-to-understand course on how to build a willow chair
This book is a simple mini-course that provides explicit directions, through clear photos, for building two willow furniture projects. I can't think of any other treatment that would so clearly teach the contruction techniques involved in making this style of chair. Any reader can be assured that she will be able to create a perfect copy of Bim Willow's chair design through the use of this book. Further exploration of rustic chair building is dependent on the motivation and imagination of the reader, as general concepts of rustic furniture design are not covered. Other titles, (Mack) cover history and design. This book beautifully serves its purpose as a beginners guide to building that first rustic willow chair.

Great book
How anyome can call this book garbage is beyond me. It is extremely helpful if you are serious about making a willow project. The step by step instructions are very helpful especially if you are a beginner. The pictures are clear and very helpful. I would recommend this book above all others and I have them all. Would really like to meet this author and thank him personaly. The only problem I had was finding the ardox nails recommended in the book.....

Great way to delve into making willow furniture
Bim Willows "how to" book on making willow furniture is a great place for beginners to look for basic information. Easy to follow, concise, with many clear and helpful photographs make this book worthwhile. It has been a lot of fun!

These Caricatures are not Endearing!
Mr. Wolfe's caricatures are gross exaggerations of the human form and may not appeal to potential doll or figure sculpters. They are remarkable specifically because they are so grotesque! Mr. Wolfe does give several hints that would benefit dollmakers - create a concave hole in the end of an appropriately-sized dowel to sculpt eyeballs directly in the face clay, or to hold a separately created eyeball in position for adhering to the face clay. I'm glad I read through the book, but it's not one I intend to keep as reference material.
