Outstanding!
Christopher Burkett is the heir of Eliot Porter as a master of color photography. He finds astonishing beauty in intimate color landscapes, and this book has the production quality to convey it. If you liked "In Wildness is the Preservation of Life", buy this book! You'll love it.

HIGH QUALITY IN COLOR NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY
This book is great. The full-color photograps(namely tress and foliage)are breathtaking, the oversized pages carry vibrant colors in splendid views from every part of America. All plates are beautiful, but in my opinion, the most beautiful are the following plates:
1(Wild Red Maple and Fog/New Hampsshire)
2(Cherokee Autumn Forest/Tennessee)
6(Luxuriant Red Maple/Kentucky)
14(Sunlit Aspen Mountain Valley/Utah)
19(Franconia Hillside/New Hampsshire)
20(Mountainside,Red Oak and Aspen/Utah)

21(Golden Aspens and Red Oak Mountainside/Utah)
22(Aspen Grove/Colorado)
29(Red Woodbine/Vermont)
32(Old Sequoia at Sunset/California)
41(Twilight,Virgin River and Zion Canyon/Utah)
44(Waimea Canyon,Sunlight and Cloud Shadows/Hawaii)
47(Sunset,Native Koa Tress/Hawaii)
62(Sunrise and Autumn Blueberries/Maine)
The most beautiful plate is NUMBER 21.Burkett,you and your photos are wonderful.

"A Cut Above" Color Photography
This book represents the best work of the individual whom I consider to be America's best outdoor color photographer. Burkett captures moments, light, and nature in ways that make viewers stand in awe of his photographic technique, photographic vision, and of nature itself.

The production quality of the book is surperb. You can feel the love (and probably pickiness) that went into it.

Enjoy!

beautiful poetry
I've seen some collections of the "best" poetry and among others, Edna St. Vincent Millay's work is not featured. Perhaps her work is regarded as too "light weight" or perhaps structure and an ear for how a poem sounds is not as important as it once was - I don't know. But I recommend this book to help correct the lack of Edna St. Vincent Millay's poetry.

I think that Edna St. Vincent Millay is one of the best poets ever, male or female, of any time period. So of course it would follow that I think this book is great, too.

Treat your senses to her wonderful lyrics and you will see what I mean. The sonnet form is a strict one, one that few poets master yet M's Millay makes it work so wonderfully for her.
There are love sonnets, of course - but there are just as many that have nothing to do with love. All of these sonnets are great, of course I have my favorites - read throught the book and you'll probably have your own picks, too.

Beautifully Crafted Work by a Major Poet
Millay was a master of prosody, and her gifts are on brilliant display in this collection of her sonnets. Form and diction that have sometimes been dismissed as out-moded or affected were tools that Millay was able to use deftly and in service of deeply felt and considered experience. Her work hasn't really been given its due yet, but why wait for the academy to catch up? This is wonderful, unforgettable work.

A great collection from America's greatest 20th-century poet
In this work of sonnets, selected for inclusion in this volume by Millay herself, the reader will find genius with heart and soul. Millay wrote many more kinds of poems than just sonnets, of course, but even when restricted to the old, old pattern of 14 lines and strict meter, she manages to convey profound and intimate thoughts on a wide variety of subjects: love, life, death, injustice, war, beauty, and the nature of humankind as a race of beings, to name a few. In this work one finds that some of the poems carry a dedication. There is a pair of sonnets written in memory of Sacco and Vanzetti who were executed in 1927; Millay records the tragedy of that injustice as she experienced it then, long before the more recent pronouncements of justice gone awry that we have heard during the past 25 years. Another sonnet of hers was read in the U.S. capitol in 1923 at the dedication of a statue of three feminist leaders who crusaded for equal rights. That same statue made the news in recent years, having been relegated to the Capitol basement on account of its weight and because of a proposal to hollow out its base so it can be replaced on the main floor. I was suprised -- and gratified -- to learn that Millay was part of its inauguration. Vincent, as her family and friends called her, held issues of justice close to her heart. Her greatest gift, I think, was the ability to write about intensely personal experiences and disclose them to the reader as common to everyone who is willing to look inward to the self. I've read other poets who have lived and worked since Millay's death in 1950 and I venture to say that we have not seen the like of her since. I wholeheartedly recommend her words to everyone because, having read them, I find myself more of a human being and more deeply committed to those things that really matter, given my ultimate mortality. --Todd Victor Leone

Must-have in Internet Industry!
This dictionary is fun and gorgeous! Great format: very light and ergonomic having over 500 pages of invaluable information! Clever design. Everyone in computer industry should have it on the desk, read it during lunch break, have it as a contemporary coffee-table book. You will learn something new even if you think you know all about it. It may open your eyes on terms you have used incorrectly. I am webdesigner with years of experience and I have always thought that "hacker" is a negative hero in the Internet jargon, but I was wrong according to Netlingo Dictionary... I believe that it's newest Net dictionary out there.

A Handy, Accessible Guide for Every Computer User
The Netlingo dictionary gives me an enormous assortment of Internet, computing, telecom, and networking terms for reference. The definitions are written in a laid-back, conversational tone. It's as readable and friendly as you can get in this technical area, but it doesn't get condescending or cutesy. I wind up reading the surrounding terms after I've looked something up. I've recommended it to my parents because any computer user will benefit from having the dictionary as he or she moves up the learning curve. Plus, the chat acronyms, smilies, and assicons are hilarious ;-)

The first NetLingo Review
NetLingo has become a wonderful resource for me in understanding what my 'web guys' are talking about. I am somewhat computer saavy, but sometimes get my cookies confused with my bytes. It is nice to finally have a reference beside my 14 year old nephew. I'm getting a copy today for my home office.

Absolutely bewitching!
I wasn't sure what to expect with this anthology, but I found myself enthralled from beginning to end. Nnedi Okorafor's "Crossroads", Seth Lindberg's "Atropos", and James Dorr's "Madness" were special delights.

Stories for all tastes
A great mix of chilling, horrifying, and otherwise entertaining stories.

Very Satisfying!
This is a great compilation of magic, madness, culture and creativity. All of the stories were pretty satisfying, some of them terrifying! There are some writers here that are going to go places. Watch for the authors of the two longest pieces, Nnedi Okorafor (her story is called Crossroads) and James S. Dorr (he wrote a story called Madness).

A real treasure
This is a wonderful picture of what might have been, written with deft style. You come away feeling you better understand the painter, the paintings and the true anguish he suffered.

a walk through the wheatfields
This is a must read for artists and those interested in the arts. It is a inspirational account of a great painter who had to overcome pain and suffering to give the world beauty. I found van Gogh in a new light after reading his missing journals and I appreciate him now more then ever. I understand his passion and demons, his committment to a dream and his ability to overcome obsticals in order to make some of the best art of the 19th century. I also found the book to be a spiritual read. It raised the issue of the how influences by organized religion can come into conflict with creativity, yet it showed van Goghs love of God and nature.

even a girl knows a good bike
not many "marques" stir the the blood of both the dedicated enthusiast, and the casual motorcycle fan like VINCENT. if a picture is worth a thousand words, then the text of jackie bickerstaff is well matched to the excellent photographs of these wonderful machines, done by asisstant mann.it is not easy to write about the many technical differances from one model to another, without loosing the reader's attention:but she did it!!! highlight of the book realy is the picture of the author next to her vincent
