Traditional Chinese Medicine: A Woman's Guide to Healing fro
Dr. Nan Lu, extensively trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), founded and developed The Breast Cancer Prevention Project. He is also a founding director of the Traditional Chinese Medicine World Foundation, Inc., and is involved in SHARE, a self-help organization for women with breast and ovarian cancer. He is also a Qigong master and martial arts champion.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine: A Woman's Guide to Healing from Breast Cancer, Dr. Lu describes how ancient TCM techniques can help prevent, treat, and aid recovery from breast cancer. He emphasizes throughout the book that "TCM is dedicated to helping the individual treat the source and not the symptoms of his or her problem."
Dr. Lu presents lots of general information about TCM, natural laws, and Qi, repeating that "everything has a connection and everything has an effect on every other thing." He then applies those principles specifically to breast cancer. He says that "headaches, stomachaches, PMS, or menstrual irregularities. . .are not normal conditions for a healthy body." He regards them as symptoms that should be heeded, to prevent future difficulties.
TCM can be used in many simple ways. For example, doing a monthly breast exam is a source of stress for many women, because it focuses their thoughts on having breast cancer. Dr. Lu recommends "telling yourself instead, that wherever you touch, you are sending in healing energy to protect that location so that you will never have breast cancer." He includes many other ways to conserve, increase, and use the natural healing energy each human possesses.
The healing information is presented in a way that allows each woman to customize the techniques to fit her own needs. All the techniques are compatible with modern medicine and may be used in conjunction with other treatments.
Dr. Lu says that "many of the self-healing techniques I've talked about can help keep your organs working in harmony." Bodies that are in harmony and balanced do not suffer from physical problems, including cancer.
The Woman's Guide to Healing from Breast Cancer is a valuable reference for everyone, regardless of age, sex, or current physical condition.

Get to the root cause of breast cancer
I had breast cancer on the same breast twice, in 1983 and again in 3/2001. I want to find the root cause as I do not want it to happen again. I find the book easy to read and understand. I will start the Wu Ming Meridian Therapy which seems easy to do. I will also start to take the healing food and herb listed in the book. Thank you Dr. Lu for helping me to heal. If I had a book like this in 1983, I probably would not have breast cancer again in March 2001. I have been recommending this book to other breast cancer survivers at my support group.

INFORMATIVE BUT EASY TO UNDERSTAND
I STARTED GOING TO A TRADITIONAL CHINESE PRACTIONER IN MARCH 2000. SOME OF THE TERMS SHE USED DID NOT MEAN MUCH TO ME. SHE RECOMENDED A BOOK TO ME BUT IT WAS SOMETIME HARD TO READ AND UNDERSTAND. I WAS LOOKING FOR A TCM BOOK SPECIFIC FOR BREAST CANCER. I FOUND THIS BOOK AND VERY STRONGLY RECOMEND IT TO ANYONE THAT WANT TO INCORPARATE TCM IN THEIR TREATMENT. DR LU EXPLAIN THE WHOLE CONCEPT OF TCM IN LAYMAN'S TERM. NOW WHEN I GO IN FOR MY TCM SESSION, I UNDERSTAND MORE OF WHAT MY PRACTIONER IS TELLING ME. AN EXCELLENT BOOK.

I loved it!!!!!!
From a puppy raiser, this book it very faithful to the puppy raising experience. It describes, perfectly, all the emotions involved with this process.

educational and informative...
Rugby and Rosie is a well-done children's book that helps explain the important elements of raising a guide dog puppy. I have read this book aloud to a fourth grade class. The story created good dialog and the children learned about how dogs can help those with disabilities.

Great story! Great pics!
Well, I happen to have a chocolate lab named Rugby and I just had to have this book! The book is a wonderful story for children of all ages! It helps to teach responsiblity! My Rugby and I just loved it!

The whole cybertrilogy was fabulous!
I found the first book at a book sale through work. I had to special order the other two, but it was well worth it. I thoroughly enjoyed each book. I met my boyfriend online and though in a much different way, I could relate to the characters. Very easy and quick read. I highly recommend! :-)

Quick fascinating reads
I found the whole series of these books to fantastic and well written. They are short but they make great books to read while you are in line at the bank or whatever.

The characters are believable and I could relate with their feelings and emotions very well. I recommend this whole little series.

Romance is dangerous business for your heart
The second novel of her cyberseries "connect" develops Bev's and Max's relationship, redifining the boundries of their romance. I loved this book but it must be read in sequence. McCarthy uses words and emoticons to express the feelings of each character without the need of introspection, inner monologues or descriptions. The ease with which the characters "speak" to each other is wonderful and natural. Could not put it down. Couldn't wait to pick up the next one and find out what happens to them.

I Will Not Bow: Manifesting Holiness in an Unholy World
Published in Paperback by Pentecostal Publishing House (1997)
Author: Nan Pamer

What It REALLY Means to be a Rebel
This book is a wonderful example of true rebellion. Nan Pamer argues that the true Christian must reject the values of the world and remain separate as God's holy child. Not only must Christian women be separate in their inward appearance, they must also be separate in their outward appearance. As a woman of the UPC, I was encouraged by this short but straight-to-the-point book. I was appreciative of Nan Pamer's bold and clear argument for morality and purity. She backs her views with strong scripture and her personal testimony. By not bowing down to Satan's world view, a woman becomes set free to the truth of bowing down to the Almighty, ONE, true God--Jesus Christ. I recommend this book to all women who are seeking the full truth of Christ and what that means as a daughter of God.

What it REALLY means to be a rebel
This book is a wonderful example of true rebellion. The church of the living God cannot conform to the world in any way, and I loved Nan Pamer's stances on separateness and what being a woman of God truly means. As argued in the book, Christian women must be different not only in the inside, but also on the outside. Nan Pamer takes a strong, necessary stand against the popular garbage thrown at women in the 21st century. The only way to be a true woman is to rebel against society's views and embrace the intended morality of God. By not bowing to Satan, women are free to bow to the Almighty, ONE, true God--Jesus Christ.

To Live Godly in This Present World
I Will Not Bow is a wonderful little book about living a life of holiness and modesty in an ungodly world. Many feel pressured to conform to the fashions of Hollywood and the fashion world. This book will encourage you through testimony and the Word of God to live "soberly, righteously and godly in this present world."

Another good book along the same lines is Modesty: A Fresh Look at a Biblical Principle. Also by Nan Pamer.

Love BEYOND Color
Imagine being young and talented and having the opportunity to go off to college
and better yourself. Also, imagine a family life that's riddled with poverty,
abuse, and responsibilities beyond what any teenager should have. This is the
life of Peggy Dana, a while teenager who ise offered a basketball scholarship to
play at University of Maryland. Her mother, who initially insists she stay home
and help take care of her siblings, reluctantly lets Peggy Dana go off to college.

Due to the dorms eing filled, it's arranged for Peggy Dana to live with a couple
off-campus during her first semester of college. The couple, who is black, and
Peggy Dana are somewhat shocked to find they don't have race in common, but the
journey that the trio experiences as they live and love together will outmeasure
any differences they have.

DeVincent-Haye's novel, 22 Friar Street, was an excellent read. I was quickly
brought into Peggy Dana's mind and world and felt the conflicts that dwelled inside
her about her family back home and her family with the Ellens. Each character was
vividly drawn, with individual feelings, personalities, strengths, and weaknesses.
I was touched by the gentle way the race issue was dealt withi n this story, though
I did find the "Mister"/"Missus" references by Peggy Dana a bit too much to take at
times. Overall, 22 Friar Street was an extremely fast read for me, that touched me
and moved me and made me care about the characters and the problems they faced.

Just What Is This Cycle of Life?
Imagine if you will a poor, inner city, Caucasian girl living with an elderly, middle class, childless black couple. An aspiring college athlete accepts a basketball scholarship to the University of Maryland too late and there are no dorm rooms available. Through a university program Peggy Margaret Dana is able to bunk at Doris and Martin Ellen's home for the semester. What she and her surrogate parents learn are lessons in humility and unconditional love.

Peggy Dana never knew what it was like to be loved by a parent who set boundaries. The product of a single parent home due to the death of her father, Peggy had it rough growing up. Because her mother worked two jobs, she was expected to be the caretaker to her younger siblings and the children of her mother's boyfriend. Bitter and depressed, Peggy's mother did not encourage her to attend college, was resentful of the fact that she did and was jealous of the relationship that she cultivated with the Ellens. Throughout Peggy's four years and beyond with the Ellens, she learns the true meaning of giving and accepting love.

Told through the voice of Peg some twenty-seven years later, we the reader are able to capture the spirit of Peg, the Ellens and their extend families. The other characters that are sprinkled throughout add a flavor to this wonderful recipe that dabbles in race relations, joy and pain. 22 Friar Street is great coming of age story adequately examining the "Cycle of Life" and the "Ying and the Yang." "It's all a cycle; the ultimate in life is giving, sacrificing for others." 22 Friar Street will touch your soul and stay with you long afterwards.

Revealing the positive side of the human condition
22 Friar Street is an exquisitely written novel by Nan DeVincent-Hayes about Peggy Dana, a young woman struggling through school and college, and her relationship with an African-American family. 22 Friar Street is highly recommended as a touching, refreshing story revealing the positive side of the human condition, and the balance between the friendships of ordinary people.

A Wonderful Read for Adults and Children
This little story will truly touch the heart of everyone who reads it, young and old. My daughter, named Sharon Rose, brought it home from the school library. An amazing book for everyone
My best friend bought me this book and it really touch my life. The Lord spoke to me greatly through this book as I had been fasting in obedience to the Lord. "The Greatest Lesson, Love"

A beautiful edition, to give as a gift
We have an inexpensive paperback version (see our reviews) of this classic poem, and we said that's enough for us. That was before we looked through this beautifully illustrated (by Bruce Whatley) edition of The Night Before Christmas.

The lyrics are the same, from book to book, but the fanciful illustrations in this one are enough to engage adults and children as they read this book together.

The perfect gift for any family whose Christmas tradition includes reading this classic!

The Night Before Christmas illustrated by Tasha Tudor
I discovered this book 31 years ago, for my daughter and it is still loved by all the family. The illustrations are wonderful, warm, charming and delightful and bring a special meaning to the story. We still read it to all the young children on Christmas Eve and for adults we read the story and pass a grab bag gift every time the word THE is mentioned. It would not be Christmas without this book. It is magical.

A Happy Christmas to All
This beautiful book was in my family as a hard cover edition for many years and was a Christmas Eve tradition for my four sons when they were growing up. It's poor battered body disappeared some time after the last of my little ones went off into the adult world. I am so delighted to see it back again, though this time as a nicely affordable soft cover. Clement C. Moore's enchanting story poem already provides an atmosphere filled with warmth and joyful expectation and with the addition of Tasha Tudor's quaint, nostalgic water-colors from an antique New England the Christmas magic is complete!
The winter landscapes fill our senses and Tasha's own gray tabby cat and Welsh Corgi welcome us into this charming world.
Tasha's Santa that you will meet in this book has been portrayed as the poem describes him...a right jolly old elf. He's not that much larger than the corgi and his team really consists of eight "tiny" reindeer. His pointy ears and his Eskimo mukluks add to the delightful ambiance of the book. He dances with the toys and with the happy animals and we can truly believe it will be a happy Christmas for all.
I hope this book becomes a Christmas Eve tradition for many, many more families.

A fun new series!
When identical twin Bert Tatum is approached on her lunch break from a handsome man who seems to know her (though she's never seen him before in her life) she doesn't think much of it. It happens occasionally that she's mistaken for her twin sister, Nan. Unfortunately, when the stranger shows up murdered on the local news and her sister claims to also have never met him, the mystery begins!

The twins both get themselves involved in an intricately-plotted puzzle that involves a murder from their childhood somehow tying-in with the current tragedy. Twists and turns abound and the writing is sassy and enjoyable.

The interesting thing about the book is that alternating chapters are written in the first-person by each of the twins, giving each part a unique perspective on the goings-on. It's particularly fun when chapters overlap and you can see either the similarity or complete difference in both Bert and Nan's points of view.

A charming and quick read, I found it difficult to put down! It's also the first book in the series so it's a great place to start if you're interested! I've purchased the second and am eager to start it!

Double Fun
Identical twins Bert and Nan Tatum are used to being mistaken for each other. So when a stranger approaches Bert on the street, she assumes the stranger is looking for Nan. Only later does she find out that Nan didn't know him either. By that point, he's dead. Nan, curious as to how a complete stranger knew them, drags Bert into the investigation. But it's soon clear that they are both in real danger and the only way to get out alive is to solve the case themselves.

This book is a lot of fun. The "gimmick" of alternating chapters from Bert and Nan is part of it. It took me awhile to get used to it, but it brings out the humor in the different points of view. The authors, identical twins themselves, have done a good job of creating very great characters. Nan and Bert are very different, and the other characters are also well defined. The plot moves along at a quick pace and reaches a logical conclusion. A great first novel in an enjoyable series.

Twice the fun!
I love mysteries and "snack" on them the way others indulge in junk food. I'm addicted, and in Double Murder I found a mystery as good to read as chocolate is to eat. (And with the possible exception of sex and sports cars, very few things are as good as chocolate.) With Double Murder the reader gets a bonus--not only a great mystery but a glimpse into the world of twins. The authors do for twins what Tony Hillerman does for the Navajo Indians and Elizabeth Peters does for Egyptology. What's next on the twin authors' list of mysteries?

Twins, Murder and Mistaken Identities
Will they ever learn? These twins get into more trouble than playful kittens! It's a good mystery, with interesting twists. Bert and Nan get mixed up with murder and their attempts to solve it are hilarious and adventurous. A good story to spend quiet time with.

The Twins Are Still Going Strong In Their Fifth Mystery
Nan Tatum is tired of the single life. Deciding to try a new way to meet men, she signs herself and her twin sister Bert up for MySoulMate.org, an internet dating service. Soon, she thinks Mr. Right has replied to Bert's posting. Posing as Bert, Nan soon finds out that Mr. Right is Mr. Wrong. The next time she sees him, he's Mr. Dead. But when the body disappears, she can't get anyone to believe her. Dragging Bert along, she tries to prove she's right. Meanwhile, Bert is more concerned about patching things up with her boyfriend, Hank, who believes Bert signed herself up for the dating service.

This book takes the mystery solving twins through yet another harrowing adventure. The twin authors have once again provided plenty of suspense and laughs, and I could hardly put the book down. The alternating narration continues to be an asset, helping with both character and plot development. This is the fifth book in the series, and it shows no sign of slowing down at all.

Fans of the series will enjoy this book immensely, and I'm already looking forward to Nan and Bert's sixth outing. If you've never read these books, do yourself a favor and get the first one (DOUBLE MURDER) today.

The Twin Sisters are Back!
This series is a delight! For those who like mysteries that are lively, colorful, and witty - but low on the grimmer aspects of death, this is your cup of tea. This time the real-life, identical twin sisters have written a mystery involving an Internet dating service and their series' characters, identical twin sisters Bert and Nan. The twin's love lives, always an interesting feature of previous mysteries, are highlighted in this one. A trail of deaths follow the twins into the cyber world of dating. The dynamics between Bert, the traditional sister, and Nan, the nontraditional sister, are great fun. With this entry, the writers have continued their development of the intricacies of a twin relationship, as well as a sister relationship. The creative use of each twin's point of view in alternating chapters allows the reader to understand the motivation of each - but it also gives the reader an often amusing peek into how each twin views the other one! Louisville, Kentucky, is the interesting setting for these mysteries. More Bert and Nan!
