Great Psychiatric Thriller
A real page turner! A TV evangelist, Jason Blake, yearns to be President of the United States. The havoc his thrust for power inflicts on everyone around him makes for an exciting story -- murder, sex, twists and turns -- a "can't put down" mystery.

A great murder mystery!
Murder and a television ministry make a great combination in this fast, but compelling story of a TV evangelist who wants to be the next President of the U.S. From the eloquent sermons Jason Blake uses to squeeze money from his yearning flock, to the anguish of his wife and children who are the real vitcims of his greed, this book has enough twists, turns and murder plots to make for a great detective series. Watch out Columbo - Tony Pinella is about to replace you as the ultimate (and lovable) detective!

Read this before you send money to a TV evangelist!
Jason Blake is a great collage of all the TV evangelists rolled into one! He leaves a trail of bodies in his quest for fame, fortune and the US Presidency. The real victims were his children who were torn apart by murder, greed and lust. I followed Detective Tony Pinella step-by-step, right up to the last revealing moment of the book. What a surprise ending!

A haunting and compelling book about the Holocaust.
I learned about this book when I visited a friend in Germany who uses it as a philosophy text. With the exception of the haunting portraits painted by Holocaust survivors, never have I read such a powerful and vivid story. The visions of church leaders and nazi's painted by Jerry Marcus as "laughing angels" is emblazened in my mind. I wanted to take Zev Segal by the shoulders and shake him back and forth to awaken him, while wanting to learn more through his nightmares. This story has all the elements of a movie that will keep the audience spellbound from start to finish!

This is a classic and haunting novel about the Holocaust
Like the main character of this book (Zev Segal), I am haunted by visions of the evil "laughing angels" and the saintly "righteous ones" who call upon Zev (and the readers) to remember the innocent victims of the Church and the Nazi's. This is the only book on the Holocaust that really brings the roots of this dastardly era of history into present-day focus. I did not understand at first why my philosophy professor put it on our reading list - but I do now. It is a story that will stay with me forever.

Climbers Galore
A beautifully photographed subject, the text provides outstanding detail on different plant varieties in addition to general information on climbers--growing them and sustaining them. The book is organized by types of climbers and I will say it expanded my thinking about climbers and their uses. An excellent three pages on care and cultivation, with pruning diagrams. Those might just be worth the price of the book itself. The downside is that it is not area specific and I wonder which of those in the book are either available or suitable for southern California.

Concise, comprehensive primer on rose growing
This short (80 pages), very pictorial guidebook to rose growing manages to convey to the reader the rich, exciting history of rose growing and the vastness of the industry in present days. It tells about how rose groweres manipulated and expanded the species, but also provides the novice back yard gardener with an easy to follow guide to buying and caring for roses. Many of the accompanying pictures are gorgeous. Of course they are - they ARE roses, after all.

Superficial attacks to Catholic Faith
When I started reading the book, I thought I was going to find a profound story with strong characters..... But, after the first chapter, I was just reading superficial attacks to the catholic church, always extreme and without real context. Every comment about the catholic church had no strong support by the characters, which I also expected to be stronger, so at the end of the book -as I always expect- the reader could at least identify with some of their feelings and thoughts. At the end, the so expected revelations, the reason d'etre of the story, are just -again- superficial "facts"... I actually laughed at the end, because eventhough I expected much more or this book, it wasn't bad, until reading the end. I have the feeling that the author just wanted to bring all "virtues" of Judaism and attack Catholisism.

Religion, the Root of All Evil??
This novel has a small amount of fact, a moderate amount of intrigue and a gigantic amount of misinformation and bigotry. The fact, which is so timely now, is the horror of child abuse by priests in the Catholic Church and the unexcusable behavior of covering up this fact by the hierarchy of the Church. This book, however, only continues the sad disharmony that exist between people of differing religious beliefs. Mr. Marcus uses his novel as a forum for anti-Catholicism much in the same way he proclaims the Catholic church uses the Sacred Scriptures for anti-Semitism. It is also obvious that Mr. Marcus did little research into the doctrine of the Catholic Church or he would not have referred to Jesus' birth as the "immaculate conception." The term "Immaculate Conception" in Catholic doctrine refers to the belief that Mary was conceived free of original sin. (see Part 1, Chapter 2, Paragraph 2, Subparagraph II of the Catechism of the Catholic Church). Mr. Marcus' premise of the need to question what our religious beliefs mean is great, but would have been credible if he had left his own bigotry behind.

Powerful and insightful.
This insightful novel not only shows an understanding of world history , but allows readers to travel deep into the complex (and hypocritical) nature of religion and politics. I felt that I truly got to know Pope Pius Innocent as a troubled soul, and to feel his agony as he faced the most critical decision of his life. Given current events in both Rome and Israel, and that we may soon see the election of a new Pope, this book is a classic example of historical fiction at its best and most honest. Although it may be difficult to follow in some chapters as Marcus challenges the reader with his "novel within a novel," it succeeds in showing the author's keen understanding of human nature - as well as history. It rates closely to "Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Zev" (also by Jerry Marcus) in its portrayal of the main character.

Good starting point for web site administrators
This book has an answer to most questions you could have regarding web site maintenance, although it is heavily biased towards configuring UNIX servers. Windows NT, for example, doesn't get much of a mention. Also, many of the examples are written in Perl which was a shame as I was more interested in CGI written with shell scripts.

Some topics do not go into enough detail. For example, the section on how to install two servers on a single machine, each responding to different domain names, tells you "what" to do but not "how" to do it.

Where the book does excel, however, is in describing the concepts of how the internet works.
