unbeleiveible contrasting personality
It is really intresting book. A person who started struggling to live like an ordinary man became a legend of his time in the "Afro-American commuinity". He rejected his slavery name and adopted the unknow letter "X" as a faimly name. For the first time in the human history such a strange event occured, that a leader rejected his name openly. The hero of the "Afor_Americans" was not liked by the white community, because of his extream thoughts of "the Nation of Islam". Anyway this was he who, after knowing the "True Islam", openly rejected his previous beleives and declared that, ISLAM is the only way of all problems, for back and white and all races.

his own story, unfiltered
This book is his own side of the story and is among the most readable of autobiographies. I feel it is important to read this book because it concerns the life of someone who undergoes the most extreme of metamorphoses. The manner in which Malcolm X tells his story ensures that the reader gains an uncontaminated impression of his life. One may not agree with all or any of his ideology, but that's to miss the point. Surely it is more important and profitable to endeavour to understand why this highly intelligent individual believed what he believed. Many questions are raised, few have been answered, even today almost 40 years on.

Book that will aspire you
This is a book that will change you,he is a legend that has risen to highest levels, and will be remembered for all time.

It is not the case that everyone should read this book, but everyone MUST read this book. This is a man who dedicated his life to fight the cancer of racism...and it is racism that killed him.

But his light is too bright to diminish, you will get to experience it when you read it...happy reading

This is not a book for conspiracy buffs
"The Assassinations" is one of the very few books which present a comprehensive and well-organized look at the *big* picture. It is a volume which deserves the attention, not just of people who are convinced that the assassinations of the Kennedys, King and Malcom X were not the work of "lone nuts", but of everyone who is genuinely interested in the recent history of the United States. Whether you are convinced, skeptical or simply curious, this is the book to read if you want to find out the facts, not the latest spin from the mass media.

A Must Read For True Patriots
If you want to read the most current knowledge about the truth of the political assassinations of the 1960's this is the book to read. The Assassinations is a collection of the best articles to appear in a little know publication called Probe magazine from 1994 to 2000. These articles were written by serious citizen researchers who invested the time and money doing the work our major news media failed to do--that is to sift through the many new declassified documents about the assassinations that have become available during the past decade. With an introduction by Judge Joe Brown of TV fame the book is filled with in depth articles that you won't read anywhere else.
Examples of offerings include Professor Donald Gibson discussing how de-classified telephone transcripts from the early Johnson Presidency in the days after Nov. 22, 1963 show us how the Warren Commission was created, and for what purpose. John Armstrong has spent years of his life devoted to the study of Lee Harvey Oswald. Here Armstrong shows us that there was much more to the Oswald story than we were ever told.
Radiologist David Mantik has spent many more hours studying the JFK autopsy x-rays than did any offical government investigating body. Mantik has submitted the x-rays to sophisitcated tests unavailable during the 1960's and 70's and has proven that the x-rays now in the National Archives are forgeries.
Lisa Pese fleshes out the details of the RFK murder that have never been published before. James Douglass explains how a 1999 civil trial in Memphis proved beyond any doubt that our very government executed a man whose birthday it honors with a national holiday. And much, much more.
Perhaps the most enlightening and disturbing part of the book is the section titled, "The Failure of the Fourth Estate." Here the reader will learn why the news media never informed you about any of this information. You will learn of the all too cozy relationship that exists between our mainstream news media and the U.S. government intelligence agencies. You will learn specific names of well known journalists who got their stories cleared with intelligence agencies before writing, and who acted as government informants and "propaganda assets."
The book closes with a thoughtful afterword by one of the editors, James DiEugenio, who places the assassinations in their political context and explains how they impacted our lives and changed the course of our collective history.
This book is not for those who practice the superficial, shallow, "my country right or wrong", flag-waving type of patriotism so in vogue these days. This book is for true patriots who care about their country and aren't afraid to look straight into it's ugly, evil side. This book is for those who want to learn from the past and want to understand when and how the United States began to go from being a much loved beacon of democracy to becoming a loathed and feared nation. This book is for patriots who want to help ensure that we once again return to having a government " of the people, by the people and for the people."

Tantalizing truths, cover-ups, obvious and hidden motives
Collaboratively compiled, organized and edited by James DiEugenio and Lisa Pease, The Assassinations is an extensive collection of articles drawn from Probe magazine concerning the murders of President John Kennedy, the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., Robert Kennedy, and Malcolm X. A questing compendium of tantalizing truths, cover-ups, obvious and hidden motives, and the struggle to track trails and pin down culprits, The Assassinations is a fascinating, involving, informative, and occasionally iconoclastic resource especially recommended to the attention of conspiracy buffs.

A jewel of a book
During Malcolm's lifetime Pathfinder press began a relationship with him that lasted beyond his death. In co-operation with his family Pathfinder Press became the major publisher of Malcolm's speeches and writings in English and Spanish. This slim book, barely 100 pages, is one of the jewels of that collaboration.

The centerpiece of the book is a 1965 speech by Malcolm on Black history. The book also features excerpts from his autobiography and various speeches and interviews. This book is rich beyond it's size and deserves to be widely read by all.

Rich Analysis Plus Inspiration
This priceless little book consists of a talk Malcolm X gave just a month before he was assassinated in 1965. You will find a rich analysis of then contemporary local, national and international issues, exposure of little-known African civilizations, and an inspiring perspective on advancing the Afro-American liberation struggle along with the struggles of other oppressed and exploited people throughout the world.

Know your true history
This little book packs a powerful punch. Malcolm X explains clearly, and often in a humorous way, how knowing the truth about your history is necessary for building a movement to tear down racism and build a better society. The heart of the book is a speech that Malcolm gave less than a month before his death. His point is that Black people have to become aware of their true accomplishments in the past in order to change the world in the present and future. By looking at ancient African civilizations, West African kingdoms, the rise of imperialism and the history of slavery in America, Malcolm shows that Black people have played a huge role in shaping human history. Even though he spoke at a time when Black History Month was still Black History Week, his message is still totally relevant as African-Americans still face the challenge of leading a movement that can end police brutality, racist violence, political oppression and economic exploitation, while joining up with working people and the oppressed around the world. The impact of Malcolm's speech is magnified by his own explanation of how he studied Black history while in prison; and by a nice set of graphics and maps which illustrate his points.

Malcolm x speaks the truth in Spanish too
Malcolm X, in his short life, spoke out strongly and forcefully against the injustices of the world, not just in the streets of the USA but around the globe. In this wonderful collection of his speeches, now in Spanish, he tells the truth to young fighters from Alabama to London to Africa. He talks not just of discrimination in the South, but also of Vietnam. As an internationalist fighter he exhorts young people to become citizens of the world and see the interconnections of struggles. However, the most important legacy of Malcom X is not the historical value of the speeches, but the real relevance to young fighters today. The horrors of war, poverty, racism, and violence are still with us. This book is a tool, still sharp, that can be used by those who want to use it today.

Malcolm x tells the truth in Spanish too
In his short life, Malcolm X became, through overcoming obstacles, challenging what was possible, and educating himself about the world, one of the U.S's foremost champions of the oppressed and exploited here and around the world. From the Congo to Harlem, he spoke out against injustice and called for right thinking people to demand change. In this collection of speeches, he speaks to those perhaps most important---the youth of the world. The speeches addressed the concerns of young people questioning the world they saw all around them in the 1960s---Vietnam, the Congo, the racism and violence in the United States. Malcolm not only spoke of these problems but expressed his confidence that the young people before him could take hold of destiny and transform society into a world worthy of humanity. This book is as important today as the speeches were in the 1960s---a tool for young fighters trying to figure a way out of the horrors of today---war, ecological devastation, poverty, and the continued assaults on civil and democratic rights not just in "dictatorships" somewhere else, but right here in the USA.

New Expanded edition is now out from Pathfinder
A new expanded edition of this book has been available since November 2002!
This new edition includes 43 more pages than the previous edition, with the complete text of Malcolm's Speech at Oxford and a more complete text of his speech at the London School of Economics. The expanded introduction together with Jack Barnes' "He spoke the truth to our generation of revolutionists," a memorial speech for Malcolm given in March 5, 1965, provides an excellent short introduction to Malcolm's life and ideas.

There is a six-page index, eight pages of notes, as well as an expanded photo display of 17 pages including Malcolm X with students and young people from Tanzania to Alabama, including a picture of Fidel Castro and Malcolm X smiling together in Harlem in 1960 when they were both still young!

This edition of Malcolm X Speaks to Young People is being produced together with a first-ever Spanish-language edition, entitled Malcolm X habla a la juventud, which is being released simultaneously by Pathfinder Press and by Casa Editora Abril, the publishing house of the Union of Young Communists in Cuba.

Malcolm X: the internationalist
Malcolm X Talks to Young People is an immensely relevant and instructive book for the young and the young at heart. His words, spoken to university students in Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States in 1964-65, ring as true today as they did then.

"I just try to face the fact as it actually is and come to this meeting as one of the victims of America, one of the victims of Americanism, one of the victims of democracy, one of the victims of a very hypocritical system that is going all over this earth today representing itself as being qualified to tell other people how to run their country when they can't get the dirty things that are going on in their own country straightened out," he told students at the University of Ghana, May 13, 1964.

Rebel Youth :Read This NOW,Then Autoiography
Originally issued as the first Gulf War began,in these pages Malcolm explains how in the Congo the US govt bombed women, men, children, and babies and called THEM terrorists,as he points out,the same as in Vietnam. He shows how it was the U.S. and U.S.-flunky ( "anti-Castro Cubans pilots" ) who were the terrorists in the Congo in the early to mid 1960s. At a time when the word "hero" is twisted so obscenely, it is a breath of fresh clean air to read Malcom's descriptions of the herois Simba fighters of the Congo who tried, and failed to liberate their country from U.S. neocolonial domination after kicking out the Belgian colonizers, and to hear him describe the equally heroic fighters who defeated the Empire in China and Cuba and Vietnam in the same terms. He exposes the use of UN cover for the Yanqui Empire's wars and drive for profits. He explains that these crimes are the doings of a system, the imperialist system ,as he calls it himself. He points out they use the cops to do the same at home :brutalize working people. Malcolm further points out that both the Republican AND the Democratic parties are the twin parties of racism and imperial exploitation. Oh yes, both parties ! He explains how he came to the conclusion that " capitalism is like a vulture...it used to be able to suck anybody's blood...but now it can only suck the blood of the helpless. It's only a matter of time , in my opinion, before it will collapse completely " and how he became prosocialist. He points to the Chinese, Vietnamese, and Cuban revolutions as examples for Blacks - today he would add and we can add, all working people -- to emulate in this country, in our time. And, he makes his stand to fight alongside anyone, any color, who fights to better condtiions for humans on this earth. As the 2nd Gulf War begins, again under UN cover and "inspections" just as the liberals pleaded, as more working people's blood, Iraq and American, for the sake of the oil profits of a tiny few, it is good to be reminded that as, Malcolm says in these pages, " The young generation of whites, Blacks, browns-you're living at a time of revolution." He was right then and he is still right. If you seek serious fundamental social change, you owe it to yourself to buy and STUDY this book.

A 1st rate contrast and comparison of Martin and Malcolm
Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X were the 2 most prominent African-American leaders of the 20th Century. In this book Dr. Cone explores how each leader rose to prominence. He also show why they did not win total acceptance from African-Americans. He compares and contrast their ideas and shows their strong and weak points.

Excellent comparison of two giants
Martin and Malcolm and America presents an extraordinary comparison of the two most influential figures of the Civil Rights movement. It is especially enlightening because it presents the sides of each man which the world has forgotten, that is, the militant nature of the later teachings of Dr. King and the more conciliatory nature of the later teachings of Brother Malcolm. James Cone also focuses heavily on the religious aspects of each man's teaching, arguing that neither man's philosophy can be separated from the religious doctrines he espoused.

If I had one critique of this book, it is that Cone relies too heavily on the Autobiography of Malcolm X for his Malcolm information. Almost all of his Malcolm info is quoted directly from that book, and like most autobiographies, Malcolm wrote/dictated with a bit of license. Having read the autobiography twice, it got a bit annoying at times to reread Malcolm's own words about himself. Malcolm was a far more complex (and more interesting) character than he portrayed himself to be, and that part was left out. (For more info, I'd recommend "Malcolm : The Life of the Man Who Changed Black America.")

All in all, though, this is a book that should be on your bookshelf. Highly recommended.

An insightful and challenging view of 2 great men!
Cone presents an indepth review of how Martin King and Malcolm X complimented and connected in their efforts to address problems of race and class in America. Used as a text in undergraduate courses on "social problems", this work offer students new insight into the lives and visions of these two American leaders and their attempts to confront the problems of our time. Well written and easily understood, Cone's work is a useful and challenging tool for better understanding the issues of race and class in America.

This man was a revolutionary internationalist fighter
In the past 10-15 years, an attempt has been made to blend Malcolm X into the general bland opinion of middle class and bourgeois class dominated Black thought. The movie about Malcolm by Spike Lee that excerpted the political struggle he carried out in his last year contributed to this attempt to hide Malcolm's revolutionary impact. Read these speeches and you see something different. Malcolm X did not look to join with America, but to join with fighters around the world from Vietnam to the Congo, from Brazil to China who were fighting American imperialism. He worked with fighters like Che Guevera and brought himself to the battlegrounds of civil rights in the south. Malcolm's speeches increasingly emphasized the different between "the house nigger" and the "field nigger," and he was proud to be for the later category as the leadership of the black struggle.
Read his own words. Malcolm X was a revolutionary.

His Own Words, the Way he wanted them!
his book of Malcolm X's Speeches was begun while Malcolm was alive with the publisher and the editor that
Malcolm selected, and speeches he wanted in the book. This is the Spanish edition of the the book that begins the series of books by Malcolm X published by Pathfinder Press in collaboration with his family as more speeches, interviews, and talks by Malcolm X have been discovered. The aim here is to put Malcolm X's words first. Read them for yourself. Find out why Malcolmwas a reasoned, passionate, but uncompromising opponent of US imperialism's wars against oppressed peoples, in Africa, in Vietnam, in the Mid-East. Malcolm can really inspire you about the fights we need.

Wonderful that these speeches are available in Spanish!
This book presents a selection of the speeches of Malcolm X, an outstanding revolutionary leader who emerged from the struggles of millions of Afro-Americans against racism in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s. Although he was assassinated in February 1965, Malcolm X left us an invaluable example and political legacy.

Malcolm X linked the struggle within the United States with the struggles of other oppressed peoples in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Just read his denunciations of U.S. intervention in the Congo, in Vietnam and the Middle East in those days -- and think today of Colombia, Venezuela, Afghanistan, Iran, the Philippines...

I particularly enjoyed the following speeches from this book: "I'm not an American but a victim of Americanism," (University of Ghana, May 1964); "Our problems and those of Africa are the same," (Harlem, November 1964); "Learn to see, to listen and to think for yourself," (Harlem, January 1965); "We seek a solution that will benefit the masses, not the upper class'" (Detroit, February 1965); and the article "The meeting between Malcolm X and Fidel Castro," (Hotel Teresa, Harlem, September 1960).

The Real Malcolm In His Last Year
This excellent little book traces the evolution of the thought and action of Malcolm X in the last eleven months of his life.Malcolm rejected the anti-Semitism and anti-woman policies of the Nation of Islam, and its refusal to involve itself in the civil rights movement. He continued to more and more place the Black struggle in this country in the world context : in the context of the struggle of the workers and farmers in Asia , Africa, and Latin America against imperialism, Yanki imperialism in the first place. He continued to expose the role of the Democratic Party to fool the masses of working people into thinking that we have a friend among our oppressors and exploiters. More and more, he spoke out against capitialism as the cause of racism and described himself unabashedly as pro-socialist.He spoke of the Chinese, Vietnamese, and Cuban revolutions as examples of what we working people must do HERE for the future of all humanity. The author is no academic ' observer'; he covered Malcolm's evolution for The Militant newspaper, the only place Malcolm's speeches were published in full and undistorted after he left the Nation of Islam. This book is an excellent companion volume to read alongside Malcolm's actual speeches, also published by Pathfinder Press.

Malcolm in action
I was surprised when I read this book. It gives Malcolm X's speech announcing his political program for fighting for Black control of the black community and Justice. I didnt know what that was before I read it. I read the talk Malcolm gave introducing the program and he talks about how he was supposed to bring Che Guevara up to the meeting, but Che couldn't make it. Heavy Stuff. Breitman is pretty good at defending Malcolm X against critics and showing what the man stood for without imposing his own views on him. We need to see how Malcolm X was in action to get a better idea how we can advance the struggle.

The best book on Malcolm X
This short book is the best book ever written on Malcolm, although it is modest. It seeks to document the changes in Malcolm's ideas in the last years of his life. It also includes Malcolm's Speech introducing his program for the Organization of Afro-American Unity which besides outlining his idea for a political struggle in the Black community, documents Malcolm's collaboration with Cuban Revolutionist Che Guevara. Also included is the program of the OAAU.
Breitman, a long-time revolutionist, was one of the first people who called attention to the revolutionary significance of Malcolm and the Muslims. He is the editor Malcolm chose to put together Malcolm X Speaks. Breitman's concern is with the view that Malcolm did not do anything signficant, particularly in the African American struggle, between his expulsion from the Muslims and his murder. Instead, he shows how the amount of work Malcolm did to energize and organize struggle both inside the US and abroad, is how to believe and documents what Malcolm did.
He also comments on how Malcolm realised he needed to sharpen his critique of the Nation of Islam and Elijah Muhammed, something that is shown in February 1965: The Final Speeches, a collection of Malcolm's speeches and interviews from the last month of his life.

situational ethics at its best....
this should taught in class rooms to show what is wrong with the victim mentality in this country.

Malcolm X.
Malcolm X: By Any Means Necessary was about Malcolm X and his struggle to end racism in the United States. Malcolm X was born with the name Malcolm little. Growing up was a hard time for Malcolm, his father was killed when Malcolm was very young, and after that point his family never had enough money. He went to live with his sister when he was a teenager, and after that became a street hustler. He was arrested and was sentenced to ten years in prison; it was there that he learned about the teachings of Islam. When he was released from prison, he began attending meetings of the Nation of Islam, led by Elijah Muhammad. He later helped the Nation of Islam to start many new temples, one of which he was the leader. He began to disagree with Elijah Muhammad on some things. Later he split from the Nation of Islam, and made a pilgrimage to the city of Mecca. After he returned to the United States, he formed a new group called Afro-American Unity. He then began working with groups of all races to achieve equality for African-Americans....I thought that this was a great book, and really enjoyed reading it; it is one of the most interesting books that I have read. I recommend it to anybody who will take the time to read it.

Malcolm X
This is a book about Malcolm X and what he has accomplished in his life. This book tells how he inherited the name Malcolm X. It tells about all his encounters with other famous leaders including Martin Luther King JR., Elijah Muhammad, and others. This book tells about his family, how he became an Islam ruler, and what he did to try to make the world a better place. I recommend this book to any readers interested in the life of Malcolm X or readers that are just interested in a good biography.

Useful, brief introduction to Malcolm
This booklet features two full speeches, an interview and sections of other material from the last year of Malcolm's life. This was the period following his split from the Nation of Islam the religious and nationalist organization he had been a central leader of for many years. Many consider this period of his life as the one of his most mature political thought.

These speeches constitute a useful introduction to his thought and for the price can't be beat.

Understanding the evolution of Malcolm is critical to an understanding of the 20th century.

The U.S. govt. is NOT "ours"; they are NOT "our troops"
This little pamphlet is a package of political dynamite for TODAY'S world. In speeches (more than two) and interviews, Malcolm explains why he is for the right of Black people (I have no doubt that he would say "working people" today) to defend themselves by any means necessary against police violence or other racist violence; explains why we (the "us" being working people, Black, white, Latino, Asian, male and female) must never call the U.S. imperialist government "our" government, imperialism's troops "our" troops, or its actions "our" actions. Period. He identifies U.S. and European imperialism as such (no, it did not begin with Bush II ); he identifies both Democrat and Republican parties as the twin parties of racism; he tells why anyone (any Black person then; we would say any working person today ) who votes for or campaigns for the Democrats is either a traitor or being played for a chump ( still true today !) hails the Chinese and Cuban revolutions as examples for what we need to do HERE; and he explains how he came to be against capitalism and prosocialist. Also he tells why The Militant newspaper is one of the best in the world (it's on the web!). This is Malcolm speaking for himself in the last year of his life: Alex Haley refused to let Malcolm's autobiography be changed-by Malcolm himself! -to reflect his all his changing views and development after he left the Nation of Islam, so you have to go to the speeches, at least five books of them published by Pathfinder Press.

Power of the Oppressed v. Power of the Oppressor
As a soldier stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, in 1969, I was privileged to hear on audio tape the two central speeches printed in this booklet: "Black Revolution" and "Prospects for Freedom in 1965."
Those speeches were key to coalescing tens of Black and Puerto Rican GIs who organized a significant group on the base involving any soldier who would oppose racism and the US war against Vietnam. Today, with the US-led war and occupation of Iraq along with continued racial oppression and exploitation in the US, this material is as relevant as it was in the '60s.
