Exploration and Conquest: The Americas After Columbus
Outstanding description of explorers to the new world after Columbus. Puts the voyages and their countries motives into perspective with clear and concise chrolological account. Highly recommended for the 4th grade explorers unit, and from the 3rd grade through the 7th grade. An excellent historical book and contains good color illustrations. I would recommend it to students from the 3rd grade through the 7th grade, and wish to include a recommendation for teachers, as well.

Really cool science experiments
If you've got a kitchen, you can make science, with the easy edible experiments contained in this book. Cobb points out that an ordinary kitchen has all the same necessary equipment as a basic laboratory: materials, equipment, water, a heat source and refrigeration.

The text and experiments are set up to help kids learn the hows and whys of scientific experimentation. The experiments include making cheese, studying food additives, methods of food preservation and the effects of freezing and thawing.

After reading the book, I was itching to try some of the experiments myself, particularly the ones for making homemade cheese and bootleg Coca-Cola®.

This book has a lot of cars in it. I like the rhyming and learning about opposites. We are buying this book for my cousins birthday - he is two. I remember this being one of my favorite books when I was little. If you really like cars, like I do, you will really like this book.

Our "Voice" - A Classroom Bonus
Betsy and Giulio Maestro have once again turned their highly creative talents into pure gold for the civics classroom. As a teacher, I find many uses for their books about America and its history. Their eye for the essential and interesting make students turn the pages like the most engaging fiction books. This edition is no exception. They trace the key documents and processes that make our democracy work - from inception through today. The large format illustrations and charts are as intriguing as they are informative. We use classroom sets of this book with our 5th grade students as they discover the "bill-to-law" process and experience the election cycle in class projects. We feel there are many more challenging ideas yet to be developed for our students using this text. If you are considering a "standard" civics text, take a look at this gem of a resource first before you buy anything!

Great book for early readers
I bought this book for my daughter, age 4, before taking a nine-hour train trip. She had me reading it for hours, and eventually ended up being able to read it herself cover-to-cover. ("Q.: Why did the geese honk at the piggy driver.? A.: Because he was HOGGING the road".)

My daughter loves riddles and wordplay, and this is best book that I have found that uses these elements. In addition, the illustrations are first-rate.

A very engaging book for a young reader with a good sense of humor.

A Teacher's Dream Resource Students Love!
I recently discovered this gem of a resource, and I was thrilled because it accompanied my fifth grade noun unit perfectly! As teacher, it is not easy to find well written resources in the area of speech and grammar, not to mention appealing to 10-11 year olds! However, this selection not only does a great job showing examples of those tricky irregular verbs students struggle with, it does it in an enjoyable and humorous way. The illustrations are wonderful, and I am planning on buying the other books in this series on verbs and adjectives as well. If they are anything like this one, I am 100% sure I'll use them just as frequently as I am this one! I recommend this to any teacher who teaches nouns, children who are studying nouns, or any parent who wants to buy a great and educational book for their child! It is a super choice!
