Great help with Counting
This book is great for young children learning their numbers. The beautiful and crisp pictures keep their attention while they are learning. Susie incorporates the numbers into her pictures, introducing one at a time. Each new number is also added to the owl's wings. This is a wonderful way for children to associate the number itself while learning to count. I teach preschoolers, and they all love finding the numbers in this book.

Wonderful introduction to Maasai and Plains of Kenya
A wonderful book that use page shapes to help define the environment. My two year old son loves to look at all the differnet animals, big and small, and follow Nanta's adventure. I first bought this book in Kenya and am happy to know that it is available to others through Amazon.com

excellent, imaginative
This is a very excellent retelling of 2 old fables. The pictures tell the story. You read the first story, then flip the book over to read the second, and the same pictures fit the next one. It is amazing and very creative.

Kids Love This Book...
...and so do adults! I have bought several copies of this over the years and keep buying more because I have given so many to friends and family who loved the book too. It is not only very entertaining but can also be used in educational discussions of cultural differences. I like to use it to teach children the lesson that other people aren't wrong simply because they don't agree with you or think the same as you. You say a turkey says "gobble-gobble", I say a turkey says "buldu-buldu". Who's right? We both are!

why the ghost??
This is a terrific book, great illustrations and rhyming text, perfect for a 2-3 year old. My only objection is the verse about the ghost ("every ghost loves a BOO") with the not so friendly looking ghosts hovering around the gravestones. I think this is a difficult scene to explain to kids who haven't really experienced Halloween. In what other context could you explain this to a young child? I may be overly sensitive to this issue because of a death in our day care family, but I think I'll be more comfortable reading this book to my preschoolers after I glue the "ghost and BOO" pages together so that I can skip them entirely.
a wonderful book!
My two-year-old son loves this book and could read it himself the second time through. He loves to be able to say "I read it!" and the content is great as well. The ghosts do not bother him at all because he hs not been taught that ghosts are supposed to be scary.
Great book for small children!
We received this book as a gift, and I just bought another copy to give my niece. I would recommend it to anyone with small children. It's a cute and catchy rhyme with appealing illustrations. As an added bonus, my 4-yr-old likes to "read" it to his little brother!

Fun & imaginative concept book for young children
This Caldecott Honor Book (1987) is very cleverly done. Children learn the letters of the alphabet and enjoy "watching" the letters morph into many different objects, animals, and birds. This book keeps the preschooler next door entertained every time she picks it up.
