EXCELLENT BOOK ON HEP C!!!
I can't stress enough how much this book has helped me to learn more about hepatitis C. Matthew Dolan explains important things you want to know about, like PCR and genotypes and he gives an anology on genotypes that helps the new patient learn so easily. There's just so much great hep C info that this book has, it is a "must have!" I often tell people to get this book when they first tell me of their newly diagnosis of hep C. It's the best and I refer to my copy almost "daily!"

The Hepatitis C hand Book
This book is a must have for all who work with people with the hepatitis C, have Hepatitis C, or loves someone who has it. This book saves lives ! Thank you Mr. Dolan.

A Light in a Sea of Despair
I undertook a two-year very brutal drug treatment for HCV, and was recently miraculously cleared of the disease. There were times I felt like giving up, but relied again and again on the encouraging information I gleaned from this book. It is informative, well-written, and emotionally supportive. My Doctor wanted a copy too, since sadly, there is little information availible in the medical community. I highly recommend this book for anyone considering a treatment approach, or wanting a supportive source of compassionate and concise information.

Beautiful photographs of a fantastic collection
Mr. Traina's book about his incomparable collection is a masterwork of photography, reproduction and scholarship. The crystal clear and remarkably close up pictures of the three hundred or more cases in Mr.Trania own passionately gathered Faberge masterworks gallery make the objects themselves almost palpable. This book is also welcome for the subsidiary essays, with the sole exception of a rather sour personal note by Mr.Traina's ex- wife, Danielle Steele. As a work of art about a long lost era of grace and elan and terrible contrasting poverty and violence, The Faberge Case makes many of the forever lost emotions and dramas come to life in a most vivid fashion.

Awesome Eye-Candy
This is a BEAUTIFUL book. The cases are works of art. It's amazing they didn't go blind making them!

A gorgeous book on a decadent subject
This sumptuous volume of amazing color photographs showcases the largest collection of Faberge cigarette cases in the world. Objects ranging in style from fokeloric or rococo to modernistic and even sexy are included in this book, pointing out that the most utilitarian object( although hardly of vital importance to the average Tsarist Russian) done by the most decadent of jewelers would be a masterpiece in miniature Mr. Faberge would be astounded at Mr.Traina's obsession with these politically incorrect objects. He would also hope that the owner of so many casas would at least be a smoker and use the casas once in a while.

Great Stuff!
While not as essential as his "Against Heresies", "On the Apostolic Preaching" contains a well of information regarding the early Church's teaching especially in regards to the truth of the Holy Trinity. Great writing from a great father, highly recommended.

Excellent insight into the teaching of the early church
Assuming that this is a true representation of an actual writing, it is invaluable for all Christians in showing us what the manner of preaching was at the very beginning. Of this fact, I really have no doubt, and accept this writing as that of Irenaeus himself. Irenaeus was taught by Polycarp, who was a disciple of the Apostle John, so we have here a teaching of the preaching told by a second generation source.

Execllent treatise by Irenaeus
This is a work by Irenaeus that wasn't discovered until fairly recently, so it is not included in the excellent 10 volume Ante-Nicene Fathers set. The work is essentially a summary of the Christian faith by the Bishop Irenaeus (lived around 177 AD). The work 'recounts all the various deeds of God culminated in Jesus Christ.' It, unlike the works of Justin and Athenagoras from the same period, is non-polemical and non-apologetic. There are quite a few notes, a nice introduction, and some Greek words provided in the text when the English translation provided is uncertain.

The Sacred Fount (Penguin Classics)

An Interesting Tale
I must admit, I have yet to actually read this novella. Then why, you ask, am I reviewing it? A local theater group that I am in is performing an dramatic adaptation of "The Sacred Fount." I am portraying the character of Ford Obert and must say that this is one of the most thought-provoking productions I have been involved in. I have been told that the novella itself is a very difficult read but, if my experience in performing it is any indication, a throughly rewarding one.

Better than Ulysses.
The Sacred Fount is the first great modernist novel, as well asan ignored one. The plot is kind of odd. The narrator, at a weekendparty, thinks that he is observing some sort of vampire-like transactions of vitality between the guests. He spends the next two days trying to find who has vampiric control over whom. Odd, but brilliant. END

Unger's Intricate Piece of Work
With an excellent array of notes explaining his decisions in translating the thirty-one chapters of Book One of Irenaes's Against the Heresies, Unger has produced an admirable and accessible scholarly edition. Any translation is simultaneously an interpretation, and Unger has elucidated his choices in a minute and clear manner. Moreover, his introduction is quite helpful in setting the scene regarding Irenaeus's audience, style, and purpose.

One line made me buy!
To anyone interested in reading up on the earliest of heresies, this is the book for them! Heresy is when a post-baptized Catholic, in Christ, turns from the original teachings of the Catholic church of Christ, and decides to accept the man-made doctrines of other denominations by excluding the Sacred Traditions of our fathers (appointed by Christ). The bible warns of man-made doctrines! Protestantism and it's branch offs, accepts man made traditions (ie. scripture only). In turning to these new, truly man-made doctrines, they have chosen to divorce the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church that is Christ's. To be Catholic and then turn from it, is divorce. Protestants of course allow members to divorce and remarry. It's ironic that this is how their church was started. Rather than staying in the marriage and fixing it, divorce is chosen. However, Jesus promised HIS church to be one and united. For those in search of the real truth, the true Church of Christ, one needs only to search the history of the first actual, physical church of Christ to accept the Sacred value of the Catholic Church traditions. This book is just what the physician (Jesus) orders. Find out where the traditions came from and how Heresies began. In this book, Irenaeus proceeds to list the succession of the Bishops of Rome to his own day! He adds that "in this order, and by this succession, the ecclesiastical TRADITION from the apostles, and the preaching of truth have come down to us" I say, the study of Church history, is the end of Protestantism! Read! Your salvation depends on it!! The Catholic Church is the ONLY church NOT founded by a sinner! Do the research! Start here!

Excellent classroom resource!
I purchased this book when it first came out, and have been using each year while teaching my fifth grade students about the constellations. It is concise but easy to comprehend for this age level. Students enjoy using it so much, that it has ended up in several hiding places throughout my room in anticipation of other students wanted to use it. Buy it, you won't be disappointed!!!

Fun to Read but also excellent reference!
My 6 year old picked this book out at a book store and I was a little wary. But it is a great book. It gives information about each constellation and where to find it as well as some background on the mythical character. The star finder really does help to locate the constellations. My niece picked up the book and immediately had to borrow it and read it cover to cover - now I'm ordering her her own.

Good stuff
The only thing missing is "the nigger of the Narcisscus", but you can't have everything. As complex as "the heart of Darkness" is, you may be better served by starting this book with "The end of the Tether", it is great in its apparent simplicity, yet it has its own complexity.

Three of the finest short stories ever written
I first read "Youth" in my own youth, over 25 years ago. It has haunted me ever since. That it is difficult to describe why is, I believe, more a testament to Conrad's subtle skills than to my own undoubted incompetance as an expositor. On one level, "Youth" is little more than a tale of a ill-fated sea voyage, but its poignancy is unmatched by any work of short fiction I've ever come across. Good or bad, pleasant or horrific, our youth is what we all miss. The inclusion of this great novella and the magically exotic "End of the Tether" ought to be more than justification enough to buy this book--even if it didn't also include the justly famous, if sometimes obscure, "Heart of Darkness". No one should think he or she is familiar with Joseph Conrad who has not read all of these three wonderful tales. (If you can find a collection that also includes "The Nigger of Narcissus," even better.)

A thoughtful collection of scholarly essays
Collaboratively edited by Claire L. Lyons (Collections Curator, Getty Research Institute) and John K. Papadopoulos (Associate Curator of Antiquities, J. Paul Getty Museum), The Archaeology Of Colonialism is a thoughtful collection of scholarly essays by an eclectic variety of learned authors on the Greeks in Iberia, colonial encounters on the West African coast from the seventeenth through nineteenth centuries, the format of Andean colonial towns, and more. Black-and-white photographs illustrate this fine college-level compilation and presentation. The Archaeology Of Colonialism is strongly recommended for advanced Archaeological Studies supplemental reading lists and academic reference collection.

Good sequel to "Phineas Finn."
The Pallisers carry on in this rambling Victorian novel. Phineas Finn's wife dies, and he again enters politics. He picks up with the various women in his life. Violet Effingham is now happily married. Laura Standish is married, but estranged from her husband. Marie Goesler is the eternal enigma. Love and money again wreaks havoc with Phineas's life. Trollope mesmerizes the reader with polished prose that adds a touch of elegance. Style prevails over substance in his novels. British politics are bewildering, but Victorian manners and morals are the real story. The mating dance that unfolds in drawing rooms and country weekends is amusing. Subplots abound. The novel has more drama than usual. Phineas is accused of murder. Trollope manages unexpected tenderness in his depiction of Laura Kennedy. She longs for Phineas, who once was her lover. Fearing scandal, she suffers a lonely life, and regrets what might have been. Lady Glencora and Plantagenet Palliser play a role in the book. They are now the Duke and Duchess of Omnium. Consequently, a new dilemma confronts Plantagenet. Lady Glencora is the tireless meddler, regardless. Marie Goesler is ever more important in Phineas's life. Trollope's work is lightweight, but refreshing. This book is good down time reading to escape the clamor and fast pace of modern life. ;-)

Extremely satisfactory sequel to PHINEAS FINN
Combined, PHINEAS FINN and PHINEAS REDUX constitute one of the great yarns in Anthony Trollope's large catalog of novels. As art, they are not masterpieces and do not quite match up against his very best books, but as entertainment, they are unsurpassed. Together, they are easily as enjoyable as any that Trollope wrote. All of the major characters of the former novel are back with a vengeance, and a far more satisfying end to the Phineas Finn saga is provided than that provided by the first novel.

By all estimations, PHINEAS FINN, while a thoroughly enjoyable novel, ended badly. So badly, that Trollope felt compelled essentially to delete the ending of the former novel, and provide a new ending in the form of a novel to correct the error of his ways. In his AUTOBIOGRAPHY, Trollope expresses his extreme dissatisfaction with the ending of that novel. Happily, he more than atones for his literary sins with the sequel.

This novel, like its predecessor, is set against the background of a great political reform. In the former, it was suffrage (i.e., how many people would be given the right to vote), in this one, the disestablishment of the Church of England (i.e., breaking the tie of mandatory local taxes to support the Anglican Church). Perhaps for this reason, Phineas Finn's Catholicism, which was not alluded to in the former novel, is made much of. The same cast of parliamentary characters are brought back for this new controversy. One curiosity is that sometimes Trollope refers by name to the achievements of members of parliament such as Gladstone, Disraeli, or John Bright. What is odd about this is the fact that Gresham is pretty transparently based on Gladstone, Daubeny on Disraeli, and Trumbull on John Bright.

Far more than the Barsetshire novels, a large number of increasingly familiar characters flit in and out of the various political novels. The major characters of one novels are found as minor characters in another. As one works through the novels in the political series, one sees such characters as Glencora Palliser, Joshua Monk, Mr. Rattler, Lord Fawn, Lord and Lady Cantrip, Lizzie Eustace, and a myriad of other characters. One of my favorite Trollope characters is prominent in PHINEAS REDUX, Madame Max Goesler. Dark in her features, thin, beautiful, extremely wealthy, widowed, extremely self-possessed, sharply intelligent, efficient, and very much a woman of action, she seems very much to be a woman before her time. One of the most remarkable things about Trollope, who was in many ways the epitome of the Victorian world, was his obvious love for strong, intelligent, exceptional women. Although there are many such women in Trollope's novels, Madame Goesler is easily the one I find most compelling.

Another Trollope Winner
A deep story of confusion and love. Contains a horrid climax and odd conclusion. Read on!
