Don't despair, it is still in Print!
This is my favourite childhood book, and while searching for a new copy of it several years back (my copy no longer has it's cover) I discovered that it had been reprinted with another name. The new editions are under the title "Double Spell"! I know that this is the case in Canada, and that this title is listed on Amazon.ca, so I'm sure it's on .com as well. Hope I've helped someone else fine the magical novle.

Fond memories....
My cousin and I are in our early 30s and have been searching EVERYWHERE for this book. We remember reading it as young teenagers and how much we LOVED IT! I hope to get a copy thru Amazon; if so, I know I'll STILL enjoy it! EXCELLENT mystery!

I wish this book was still in print!
I had hoped to make this book this month's selection for my book club. I am really upset that it is out of print! This an excellent book. I am 11 years old and found the book really exciting.

Goosebumps move over!
Canadian author Janet Lunn has written one of the most interesting and weirdest books I have ever read. The Unseen is a collection of short scary stories that Ms. Lunn claims are based on true accounts. I picked this book up because I am fan of Janet Lunn and enjoy her series that started with the Root Celler. The Unseen has been in my conscience since I read it, and I have been desperatly been trying to locate another for my own library. If you enjoy a good scare this book will deliver.

Not the best book i read but not the worst!!
I read The Root Cellar in school and i have to say that it's strong point was at the beginning. But it was very informative about the Civil War. I didn't think that that was the best ending the author chose and it could have been a little more exciting but it wasn't that bad!

The BEST book ever!!
If you like adventure then you will love this book "The Root Cellar" by Janet Lunn. This book is about a girl named Rose who goes to relative to relative . If you are wondering why, it is because her parents died when she was a young girl. and she went to live with her grandma. Her grandma died and then Rose started to go from place to place because the relative died or didn't want her around. Rose travels back in time by going into a root cellar. This book is called "The Root Cellar" because there is a root cellar where Rose enjoys being alone. Rose was never around kids her age , but her grandmothger told her that she was better off without them. She meets two children who are around her age and they create a strong bond. Rose and Sisan, who is one of her new friends, go on an exciting adventure they will remember for the rest of their lives!!!!!! The other child that Rose meets is Will. The book is a five star book to me and I suggest this book yo anyone who doesn't like reading. I hate reading and I loved this book. This book was so descriptive. When you read this book and think about it the book is so relaxing. If you close your eyes you will see the images in your mind it is so descriptive! So anyone can read it!!!!!

Very Good!
Very good book! I have never read a book on where the point of view was from a Loyalist. I think that this is very important, to show that they are human beings too! Phoebe Shows courage and impluse as she rushes off to deliver a message with only the river for direction. She meets Jem Morrisay on the way and learns even more, about love and life. I won't spoil the ending for you, but expect the unexpected. AN altogether successfully told and written story. I totally recommend it for you historical fiction lovers (thats me!)

one of the best!
it was so interseting!! you never know whats going to happen next!! there is so much going on you really have to pay attion!! You just can't put the book down!!

An excellent book!!
I found The Hollow Tree to be a wonderful but sad book. The book got more and more interesting as it went along...I also found it interesting because it relates to American and Canadian history. The book was exciting throughout...

Haunted in the New World by her Dark Cousin
This dark fantasy does not approach Lunn's superb THE ROOT CELLAR, but proves an interesting read all the same. Two cousins in 19th century Scotland, born the same week, grow up inseparable. Despite their different temperaments and appearance, Mairi and Duncan are two halves of one coin; they vow at age 11 to remain of couple for ever. Then Duncan's family decides to emigrate to Upper Canada, a move which threatens to tear assunder the unique bond that links their destinies. When the story opens, Mairi has agonized for four years; can their devotion to each other triumph over ocean, time, distance and death itself?

Mairi endures the incredible hardships of emigrant travel, as she struggles on her personal quest alone. She has sacficed everything she knows and loves to be reunited
with Duncan. Unfortunately, the folks in Hawthorn Bay on the St. Lawrence River first treat her as a heroine, then as slightly daft, but they ultimately consider her suspicious. With her spirit talk and dire predictions, even the children turn against her. Will she be branded as a witch in this Puritannical New World? Persecuted by worse than ignorant colonists, Mairi realizes that she herself is being stalked by
evil--using Duncan's voice to lure her to disaster. She is terrified of the forest, yet morbidly attracted to a special flat rock which is linked with Duncan's disappearnce. After her physical and emotional pilgrimmage, how far must she travel to ultimately join him? Which path will she choose to meet her beloved? A mysterious read about a brave young woman who wants to control her own destiny.
