The Five Points of Calvinism, by Dabney and Dickinson
I purchased this book as I sought to more fully understand the issues behind Calvinism, and the specific doctrines generally held by those of that dispensation.

I was very pleased to find a thorough, Biblically backed up presentation of those very issues I had questions about. Not only was each chapter clearly presented in an easy to follow format, but the technical format of the book made it easy on the eyes. The vocabulary used in the text may cause you to keep a dictionary handy during your reading sessions, but other than this I found the book easy to follow.

Those of you seeking to understand what the 'five points of Calvinism' are and the manner in which they apply in a practical fashion to your life would do well to read this text.

Enchanting
The photographs enclosed within this beautiful book serve to haunt and enchant. The infamous Edward S. Curtis has captured the spirit of the indigenous peoples, and this well presented book displays these images wonderfully. Definately a must for anyone with an interest in the native american culture. Highly recommended.

A fun read -- and useful information, too
There's something most of us find fascinating about the lineages of persons of note, whether they're royalty, U.S. presidents, movie stars, military leaders, or literary and historical figures like Pocahontas and Louisa May Alcott. The Virginia ancestry of the Queen Mother is relatively well known, as are the New England cousins of the late Princess of Wales and the Duchess of York -- but did you know Elvis Presley, Jimmy Carter, and Jesse Helms are all collaterally related? Roberts is probably the leading expert at this sort of thing, especially when it comes to uncovering surprising connections, like the British royal descent of Karl Marx's wife (whose grandmother was Scottish), and he carefully lays out examples of what might be called "genealogical evolution," demonstating that genealogy really is inclusive, not exclusive. Many British, European, and American contemporaries are much more closely related than we often realize. There are also a number of descents contributed by guest columnists which maintain the same high standard of documentation.

Free, Perfect and Now: Connecting to the Three Insatiable Customer Demands: A CEO's True Story

Sound theory, but not a reality at Marshall Industries
I have worked in this industry for many years, and have had the opportunity to hear Rob Rodin speak several times. From a competitive standpoint, and ultimately as an employee, I was excited about the prospect of applying Rob's ideals, general thoughts, and principles to my day to day work environment. Anticipation melted into disappointment. I found that Rob's philosophy was self contained. Employees who tried to apply Rob's theories were, in reality, stifled by the current management team. Bright and energetic employees became frustrated and eventually began to leave Marshall. In the recent past, Marshall has lost many who were considered their best and brightest---the future of the company!! Rob Rodin's theories are sound, but they are not a reality at Marshall. One man alone, with a philosophy, cannot run a billion dollar company! This philosophy must be accepted by management and proliferated throughout the entire company. Marhsall Industries recently reported lower than expected earnings, and falling stock prices tell it all. I was one of the Marshall employees who chose to "quit and leave"---unlike the current management team who chooses to "quit and stay"!!!

An engaging story but does it work? Not yet!
Being an employee of a company in the same business with Marshall I read this book with much aniticipation. Rob Rodin does a great job of detailing that changes that Marshall has undertaken and while the stories of the transition are amusing and insightful the facts are the changes haven't really made Marshall a more successful company from a shareholder standpoint. As the saying goes "the bottom line is.....the bottom line". By charting Marshall's stock price as compared to it's two largest competitors (Arrow and Avnet)over the past 5 years, Marshall's return to it's sahreholder's is the worst of the three. While it would be rewarding to read this book and know the changes Rob has made have added significant value, the facts simply don't bear this out. An amusing read but not really a guide for improvement.

This is a true story..........
This is a great book. It is great because it is true. I know this because I work at Marshall Industries and have seen it happen. I have read the book. I have seen some employees embrace the change and become innovative and vital. I have seen others become disgruntled and whining. Here, we encourage them to not "quit and stay" but to "quit and leave". Marshall has thrived in an industry where all the stock prices, margins etc. have fallen. Marshall has succeeded against companies that have gained only through acquisitions. Marshall has succeeded against competitiors who have had a perceived franchise advantage. If you follow the advice of FREE, PERFECT,NOW, will you end up with the happiest company on earth? No. Your people will be scared, challenged and off-center. BUT you will get the kind of ideas that will propel your company into long term survival and innovation for the next millenium. In static comfort, you know the next step--and you can fall asleep in unchallenged serenity. When the next step is a dark unkown and you need innovation, there is alot of fear. The point comes from what you do with that fear. This book is for the brave.

Simple Goodness
This is a plain and simple little book. There are no color photos and no outlandish dishes that you will never try. This book is about good, honest and hearty food. It's an excellent first cookbook and makes a fine addition to a serious cook's collection as well.

RECIPES FOR THIS BOOK
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE RECIPES FRO THE SWEET POTATOS PIES BECAUSE GRNNY CAN COOK YEAH I WAS WATCHIN HER TO DAY

Lost Art - found!
For those of us who never 'really' learned to cook from watching mom or grandmom, this book is a must. The recipes are simple and easy to follow and yet, your friends will think you've missed your calling as a chef! I've tried many of the recipes and have not had a failure yet, not one. This book makes a great gift for newlyweds, for kids going off to college or to live on their own for the first time, or for those like me who just wanted to know how to make those delicious foods from times past. I've had friends who are long time, good cooks, asking me for 'my' recipes. Now that's a testimony. Buy it and Enjoy!!

These eight stories, all previously published in literary journals, offer maximum impact with a minimum of words. Smith's stories take tiny snippets of time and transform them into universal and compelling tales. A nice read for any fan of the short-short genre.

Ms. Wasserstein continues to delight
Reading a play by Wendy Wasserstien is always a delight, but even though all of her writings are to be savored, The Sisters Rosensweig exhibits an important mark in the author's maturing style. In spite of this maturation, however, the story line never grows stale and Ms. Wasserstein never fails to draw from her reader a smile and a laugh, and give to give us a refreshed sense of the type of person we want to be--it's self-help through fiction!

The Sisters Rosensweig follows the reunion of three Jewish sisters who come together for a visit in Queen Anne's Gate, London, and the joys and struggles they share concerning romance, careers, childhood, and family--joys and struggles with which we all identify, not only as women but as human beings. Thank you, Ms. Wasserstien, for another delightful treat!

Lots of Questions; Lots of Errors; Little Else
This is a cheap book with lots and lots of sample exam questions, but many, way too many errors -- dozens! Wrong answers. Answers that contradict the text on its own pages earlier in the book, and repeated questions on the same topic (at least once with two different answers!) And explanatory text on the various exam topics is nearly non-existent at times and very erratic in its depth of coverage.

A good start
This book is a good starting point for the newly revised Windows 95 (70-064) exam. I just took it and scored 857 (minimum passing score is 632). The book goes into detail on topics that are heavily covered on the exam (networking with NT and NetWare, printing, system policies), and this makes it a great place to start studying. However, the 95 exam is full of nitpicky questions that are NOT covered in this book; you need additional sources to be completely prepared. In addition to buying this book, I'd recommend downloading the Win95 Resource Kit from Microsoft's Web site and spending some time going through it, especially troubleshooting. Also search the web for "70-064" to turn up helpful links. This is one of the hardest exams in the MCSE sequence, but if you use these sources you should be in good shape.

One of three references you'll need.....
.... to pass the Win95 exam. This book is like all others in this series: Each test objective is examined in a seperate section while numerous fairly difficult questions test your knowledge. In addition, there are hands on exercises to reinforce the material. There are no pretty pictures here but this obviously helps keep the price at a very reasonable $25.00. The other recommended references would be the win95 resource kit and your hands on experience. A highly recommended book.

Not worth it at half the price.
This book is outrageously overpriced.

The major problem is that the authors drone on and on in each chapter about the same stuff. Most of the chapters would have been sufficient at half of their 30 page length. After about 15 pages and the third repetition of stuff that's already been explained, my brain started to wander. I'd have to go back and force myself to pay attention to what was being said.

Another major problem is the utter lack of editing performed. The sentence structure throughout the book is terrible. The syntax and choice of words is confusing. I'd have to re-read certain sentences several times before I could understand what the authors were trying to say. The English in general is also bad. Over and over, there were sentences that started with "But...". Then there were times when verbs were used as nouns, which is acceptable, but, because of the terrible sentence structure, it looked like they were being used as verbs. This made it almost impossible to read.

The only reason this book didn't get one star was the fact that some of the information was actually useful. The majority of the book, however, was just droll, boring repetition of stuff I didn't need to know in order to grasp the concepts. It also needed to have more concrete examples of stuff. It started out doing that well, but, by chapter 6 or 7, it just became too abstract. There must be a better book out there on this subject.
