This book is amazing...
I love this book. This is the quintessential Brandy book. Her pal, Karu Daniels, really did a good job in delivering the goods on one of my most favorite celebrities. This book is packed with photos, nice color ones. The title says it all, it's really intimate. The book has it all: her early beginnings in McComb, Mississippi, a very revealing chapter of her mother (who we hear is not so nice), a chapter on her fine little brother Ray-J (He's so cute), a chapter about Moesha, and tons of useful facts about her music, movies and fun facts.

Very entertaining book!
Karu Daniels did a fabulous job researching and writing this book--you can really tell that he is friends with the diva and not just another writing doing a hack job! Great pix too! If you want the inside scoop on "Moesha" and her music, this is the book to get. Loved it!

From the world of another Mississippi writer
I'm a sucker for this contemporary short fiction. Much in the style of Larry Brown, Carver, and not so much Bukowski, Crocker draws you into his characters. When you try to leave, he won't let you. In this tale you are the guest that sits in discomfort and wants to leave the setting...but you are Trapped. The stories ends in resolve, something that is not done easily. Bravo! The full twenty-three stories will read like a fun weekend in Jersey City. I enjoyed this very much.

outstanding
I picked up this book a few weeks ago and couldn't put it down until I had read it all and some of the stories twice. It's an amazing mix of the experimental and ordinary life. At times, it's even creepy, in a good way.

Nobody's fool
Crocker, nobody's fool of the written page, has composed a work of great and difficult striving. 'Do Not Look Directly into Me' is a rendering of the desperate, ugly, and mundane in a language packed with our shared human frailties.

Who knows? NASA!
It really looks like a civilization existed on Mars, but the only way to know for sure is to go there. Is NASA hidding the truth? If you found out NASA hid the truth all this time would you be supprised.

Strong scientific case for artificiality
Carlotto brings state of the art image analysis techniques to bear on the enigmatic objects of Mars' Cydonia region. He shows that there is a high degree of probability for artificiality, something that NASA and Michael Malin vigorously deny - to this day. This book is a must-read for any serious student of the artificiality hypothesis.

The standard reference for extraterrestrial archaeologists
Mark Carlotto's book is a must-buy. Every page is a discovery in itself; the author makes his case, and makes it extremely well: Mars is probably home to non-natural features well within our technological ability to investigate (preferably through manned exploration).

"The Martian Enigmas" is a satisfying piece of popular science that effectively sounds the death toll for "skeptics" who insist it's all our imaginations.

The Celling of America: An Inside Look at the U.S. Prison Industry

Some good information, but hardly flawless
A look at the prison industry from the inside is a nice idea, and the articles here are chock full of information one hardly hears in the mainstream media. The responses to criticisms of prison TVs and weightrooms are interesting and thought-provoking. On the other hand, many of the authors seem to believe prisoners deserve as much freedom as those outside, that they should be treated the same. While the rights of prisoners are obviously being abused, the notion that criminals shouldn't be punished for their crimes is a strange one. Also, many of the writers have an obvious socialist agenda that ruins the quality, message and objectiveness of some pieces. Overall, worth reading, and a good look at the prison industry (and other industries that use prison labor), but far from a complete or unbiased view.

Future textbook for students of American history
History will not look kindly on today's prisons. This book outlines how companies and politicians exploit America's most vulnerable citizens, and provides information on how to stop it. The most important non-fiction title in recent memory.

Disturbing,thought-provoking description of American prisons
This book presents a truly "inside" looks at prisons in the US. Short articles, mostly written by prisoners, tell the story of how prisons are run, managed, and what's at stake. For anyone interested in crime, punishment, human rights, or criticisms of China for using "prison labor" to manufacture goods, this volume provides plenty of well-articulated food for thought.

Just Look'N Learn German Picture Dictionary
Just Look'N Learn is an informative and fun German picture dictionary. This children's non-fiction is inviting and accurate with over 1,500 basic words. While perfect for boys and girls, it is a great resource for all ages. It is organized in alphabetical order using an appropriate English vocabulary, and amusing colorful cartoon illustrations which enhance each word. Each entry also has a simple, clear sentence in German and English demonstrating how the word is used. Other sections include learning to count, tell time, and teach days, months, shapes, and directions. At the end is a useful German-English word index. The book is also perfect for youth because its' highly visual design allows children to either jump around the book or just read straight through. A great way to get a first look at the German language

Useful and stimulating learning tool for beginners.
Simple and colorful illustrations with easy-to-understand, complete sentences for use by any age beginner. Appendices include numbers, days of the week, months of the year, shapes, directions, time, irregular English (but not German) verbs, nouns, and adjectives. German equivalents of the irregular forms would be useful. German index is quick guide for building vocabulary.

Are You Confused?
"Are You As Confused?" was fun to read. I read the entire book in two evenings. Many of the poems, particularly ones about love and feelings were excellent. "In The Air" and "Love" are two of several good poems. The cover was also well done!

Fun with Slugs
I recently read Mrs. Harper's book on the fabulous banana slugs of the Pacific northwest. I have to say that I was pleasently surprised by the amount of information contained in such a little book. I am currently keeping banana slugs in the zoological institution where I work and needed a little extra information on their daily lives to provide the best care for them. This book contained information from their breeding habits to nutrional requirements to morphology and everything in between. Alice Harper is definately the Slug Lady and hopefully we will see a updated edition of this book with even more information in the near future. Still, I would definately recommend this book to anyone looking into studying these wonderful yet slimy little creatures.

Startling responses to questions of WWII accountability.
This book is a quick and easy read of memories of WWII as told by average German citizens. This book is startling in the matter of face responses by those interviewed. First person accounts of what it was like to be "drafted" at the age of 15, the pride and brotherhood created by war. Shows the range of consciousness and selective memory after WWII. Raises questions about mindset and accountablity, but offers no conclusions. I was left with the uneasy feeling that a charismatic leader could re-create the events that led to Hitler's rise.
