A Century Of Boston is "must" reading for all Boston sports fans as well as students of American sports history.

Inspiring!
Written with aplomb and great respect for all the athletes that are featured, A Century of Boston Sports is a joy to read. The variety of photographs and layout of the book are eye catching and unique. No matter your team loyalty, this book provides wonderful stories of athletes from all walks of sport. Humour and joy in sport make this a wonderfully inspiring read. Johnson shows a genuine fondness for each chosen member in this gem of a book. Give this book to any sports fan or anyone who would be inspired by reading all these diverse stories.

As far as baseball novels go, it's hard to beat this one.
Prospect is a perfect mid-summer, screen-porch, grass-stained, barefoot kind of read. If you are a true lover of the game of baseball, you absolutely must read this book.
To be honest, I'm not sure how Prospect would read to someone who isn't a baseball fanatic. Littlefield's writing is concise and rich (unlike many sports writers who decide to try their hand at novel writing), but so much of the magic of this book is a product of how well he captures the humanity and spirit of the game. In many ways, this book is so much about baseball that it is somehow more. Like the game of baseball itself, Prospect is a beautiful human drama.

This book has nostalgia, a real-life message and it's fun!
This book has it all: A real-life message to that elderly that life is not over just because the latter years have arrived. A white/black friendship. (The black lady gets to be the heroine.) Baseball and the nostalgia of the way the game used to be....and just plain silly fun in the personalities of some of the people (including Babe Ruth, who makes an appearance by sliding down a flag pole). When I finished reading it, I wanted to remain connected with these characters so much that I turned to the front of the book and read it over again. I have never done that before or since. I read it in the Reader's Digest Condensed Book version. I tried to buy the book, but could not find it several years ago. Now I see that it is out of print. What a shame. It was a first book for Mr. Littlefield. I wonder if he has written any others? If so, I would certainly eagerly buy and read them

A delightful collection of commentaries.
Bill Littlefield is at once funny, insightful, touching, and engaging. His writing is always worth reading. Keepers is a beautiful collection of Littlefield's radio commentaries that will keep you engaged to the very last. To call the collection a "sports book" falls far short of the mark, as Littlefield's essays are really about life. A delightful read!

Great anecdotal look into baseball
As a result of hearing Bill Littlefield interviewed on the radio, I decided to buy this book as a gift for my son's little league coach. It looked so delightful that I couldn't resist reading it before I gave it to him. The book includes amusing and interesting anecdotes on a large variety of topics relating to baseball. Between the writing and the terrific photographs, Baseball Days keeps one's interest throughout.

You can't miss Littlefield's love of the game
I approach any book written by a Boston-area sports figure with skepticism. Mr. Littlefield, however, displays the same equanimity, intelligence, and heartfelt love for the game of baseball in this book as he does on his weekly National Public Radio show "Only A Game." The book is a collection of essays, but between the volume's flowing design (new essays do not start on a new page) and lively writing, it reads more like a conversation. Though each piece holds up on its own, their arrangement invites the reader to keep turning the pages, as the author steers the topic "From the Sandlots to the Show" (the book's subtitle). Tryout camps, zealous fans, rain delays, old players, weekend leagues, fielding, it's all in Littlefield's book. He writes with grace, and humor, and a sharp eye for observation. The book is also made beautiful by many great photographs throughout. I wouldn't hesitate to give this as a gift to any baseball fan, no matter what their team affiliation, Little League or Major League. It is, quite simply, one of the best books on the sport I've yet read, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute I was reading it. The perfect salve for the sting of the offseason cold.

I review other baseball books on my baseball...........
