Great - would make a great movie or tv special.
It's hard to imagine how much work went into the research of this book. To find the details and documentation is mind consuming. The story puts flesh and blood onto a part of history that was forgotten and lived only in bits and pieces. Truly the work of a dedicated individual.

Excellent historical overview through one slave's history
Shadrach who?? This book provides amazing insight into the experiences of an unlikely hero whose story should be taught in grade school. A terrific amount of information condensed into a readable, enjoyable package--I can not imagine how difficult it must have been for the author to gather such little-known information. I only regret that I hadn't known the book or its main character years ago.

The Bible in 7 minutes a day--WoW!
This is terrific. Not the "Bible-lite". It's the whole message of the Bible in only 7 minutes a day. Now I have a workable plan to read through the whole Bible in a single year. 7 minutes a day? That's something even I can handle.

I LIKED IT BECAUSE OF THE ANIMALS
I LIKED THE BOOK SHADRACH!I LIKED DAVIE BECAUSE HE WAS BRAVE TO CATCH THE RAT.I LIKED THE BOOK BECAUSEI LIKE ANIMALS.FROM THE START OF THE BOOK I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE BORING.WHEN I READ IT IT WAS GREAT.

Sweet story
I read this book over the summer and felt my fourth graders would enjoy it. It offered a counterbalance to the fast action books they are used to. I realized it must be a dated style because of the absence of t.v. and other diversions we are unfortunately accustomed to. I recommend children being able to be exposed to a very well written, nurturing book. Actually, the children probably had to use more imagination while reading than in contemporary novels.

for parents every where
I was browsing throw the library to find a book for myself when i found the book shadrach. At first i didn't realy care for it until i started skimming throw the pages. To a kid like me it looked easy to read, but when i started reading it i couldnt stop. It was like the harry potter books when you just cant stop reading. So after two hours i checked the page and i was on page 147 and i couldnt believe it. To someone it might not be very impessive but it was to me and my family, because i hate reading. By the time i was finished i had two weeks to finish my ritten book report. Since i read it so quickly i got a A on it. So the book shadrach is a very iteresting book to read for all ages.

great book
My daughter is not an avid reader, but she started this book and could not put it down. Obviously the book teaches godly principles and keeps the reader totally engaged in the story. We are ordering all of Moore's books for our daughter to read---And they all get passed around to all teh junior high the girls at the international school here.

I have read the book, but my wife has looked it over and confirms that there is a strong moral message as well as being well written.

Couldn't put it down!
A few of my friends read this book and thought it was wonderful, so I had to read it. Once I started, I couldn't put it down! This book is exciting to read, and also has extremely important life lessons behind it. And because it is told from a teenage girl's point of view, I can relate to it even more. I would recommend this Laurel Shadrach series to any girl. A+! :)

Wonderful!
"Purity Reigns" is an excellent book, and I love it! My father bought it for me because he realized how important the message was. This book is great, because it gives a realistic situation of a girl struggling with what God and the Bible require of her; peer pressure, and her own personal desires. It accurately portrays the life of a high school girl with a boyfriend who wants to take things further than she is ready for, and her friends who must face the consequences of their actions. This is a great book for teens and preteens, even if they aren't struggling with the battle of sexual purity. I definitely recommend this book to anyone, Christian or not, and give it five stars and two thumbs up!

Superficial
My husband and I were given this book by our pastor to use in our premarital counseling. We found it to be utterly superficial and disappointing. The examples the book gives are very trite and not very enlightening. A lot of the chapters brought up issues that we had already discussed many times (and we hadn't be dating for more than a year and a half). The only purpose of them for us was to tell the pastor what we had already talked about. In fact, we thought that if couples had not already talked about most of the things in the book, they must have some serious communication problems. The book takes a very traditional view on the woman's place in the marriage. It isn't super-conservative, but it was a bit conservative for us and we don't consider ourselves liberal. Also the authors used Bible passages out of context. While the verses made good points where they were in the book, its not what they mean in the Biblical context. I know it is very hard to find good books on this subject. Most of them stay in the realm of superficiality and cheeze, and this is another one of those books.

I've read this book, other books by the authors also
I am familiar with Family Life. They are on a par with Dr. James Dobson's outfit, Focus On The Family. They are a part of the umbrella organization Campus Crusade For Christ. Dennis Rainey and Bob Lepine have a daily radio show called Family Life Today. I've read this book and I have other books by Dennis Rainey and Barbara Rainey about marriage and teenagers.
A lot of this information is also in their conferences and Family Life really tries super hard to connect not only with your mind by providing you some insight into marriage troubles and how to overcome them...but Family Life goes beyond this and motivates and urges action. This book is a book to use as a workbook to put you through the action part of working out the ultimate question... "is this The Person."
I read this book AFTER i was married and was seeking answers to questions. This book has an accompanying Leaders Guide that is intended to be used by a mentor right alongside the real book used by the couple. I have the leaders guide and if the book is used with the leaders guide with an older wiser mature couple guiding the younger couple this book can be a wealth of valuable information. I recommend the book from a conservative southern baptist perspective and I know absolutely that even liberal christians will get a lot out of this book.

A true blue-print
Wow! My husband and I used this book in our premarital counseling class and we learned more about what a true Godly marriage is all about. From your roles and responsibilities, to handling your finances, to unrealistic expectations, even to dealing with each others pasts. I don't know what we would have done if it wasn't for this book, it helped so much in determining our strengths and our growth areas. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is engaged or contemplating marriage! We still go through parts of it even though we're now married!

totally free book review
"Totally Free" is the second installment in the Laurel Shadrach series. The book covers the bulk of the remainder of her senior year of high school. Laurel is now dating Foster, a Christian guy. But Branson, her ex, will not leave her alone, especially since he regrets leaving her only to find out that he might have AIDS because his girlfriend has it. Laurel has a hard time trying to keep away from Branson and Foster catches the two of them in some rather compromising situations. Then there is Laurel's best friend Brittany, who is now a Christian and of whom is struggling with her faith. Plus Laurel's brothers seem to be at war, especially when one discovers alcohol and becomes an alcoholic--and then takes up gamblimg on the side. Laurel and her world have been torn apart again--especially after a tragic accident unfolds that leaves Laurel wondering if she still likes Branson. This book is a slightly weaker installment than the first one, but is still a worthy read. I also recommend this author's "Payton Skky" series.
