A Must for the CNJ railfan
This book captures the very spirit of Jersey Central Lines railroad. The scenery combined with William Brennan's keen eye for photography brings the now defunct railroad back to life. For those of us who witnessed the "Big Little Railroad", this book is sure to bring back many fond memories. For those who didn't, it is a great history lesson in a railroad era gone by.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT - Achieving Bottom Line Success
This new addition to project management literature is a unique and valuable contribution to the field.
The Forward, by a systems control engineer and CEO, sets the stage for what one can expect in the text. The author's Preface further enhances interest by way of a vivid descriptive overview of projects throughout history that illustrate how crucial planning and management is to any venture's success - or failure. Of particular interest is the caveat that project management has to be viewed in a global context as technological advances will have an ever increasing impact on a corporation's ability to maintain a competitive edge. What makes this book a stand-out in a field which appears to have an over-abundance of contributors? Primarily, it is due to the author's creative formulation of a well constructed philosophy of "bottom-line success(PBLS)." This philosophy sets forth principles by which the project achieves a bottom-line impact, i.e., a net profit. Note that the "P" can interchangeably mean philosophy, principles or project. To alliterate further: PROFIT!
In essence, bottom-line success encompasses all of these.

PBLS stresses the importance of detailed attention to the beginning stages of a project accompanied by a keen eye to the long term aspects such as potential problems and risks, contingencies and corrective action components, all of which can impact costs. This construct rests on basic fundamentals, or precepts, namely, clearly defined objectives, recognition of risks, teamwork, pre-project planning and a detailed definition of scope. To bypass or diverge from any one of these will invite failure.

What separates this book from many others on the subject is its avoidance of "quick fixes and solutions." It is highly readable and has substance. Through vivid illustrations of real life situations, the author analyzes both successes and failures. Further features include an extensive appendix of forms and a valuable section on key definitions. The numerous graphs and progress monitoring charts are useful adjuncts to the text.

The author has impressive credentials. He has over 30 years experience with a wide range of domestic and global projects including 10 years with NASA along with in-depth involvement in a number of billion dollar industrial and business ventures. Currently, he conducts seminars and workshops world-wide that assist corporations in "achieving bottom-line succcess."

This book is truly on the "cutting edge" and will be of inestimable value to both the experienced and the novice. A question is posed in the concluding pages: "When is success successful enough?" Answer: "When it cannot, realistically, be done better!" Enjoy, and PROFIT!!

False Economy: Australia in the 20th Century

Unusual blend of family and economic history
This subject of this book is listed as economics and business. I don't know why. In fact, the book tells the story of the author's family, from the time his grandparents arrived in Australia. It goes beyond a nostalgic tale of pioneers and interweaves the intimate story of his family with the broad scale economic history of the country- and in particular, its dependence on exploiting and desecrating nature. Among Lines' targets are economics (in general), Keynesian economics in particular, materialism, bureaucracies and (some) environmentalists. Its general approach is, I think, a deep-ecology one.

This is a challenging book that has no simple message about how we can change our lives for the better.

The Rape of the Forests
Australia does not have the strong tradition of Nature writing that America does. One exception to this is Western Australian writer William Lines. This book, the title of which pays its respects to an Eric Newby classic, is the story of his walk he did along a previous version of Western Australia Bibbulman Track which runs south from Perth. Lines deftly describes the every day aspects of the walk but intertwines his descriptions with an account of the history, a rather sad one, of Western Australian forests as a result of greed, ignorance and stupidity. An Australian environmental classic.

Out of time
Out of time, out of money, out of technology - an utterly complete waste of time! You get advice to better buy an Intel 486 PC(sic!) instead of lower numbers (!), an explanation of the Quick Ratio and a sample sessions of how to access financial information using (an outdated) internet service(!). Absolutely not up to the title and an offense to the serious modern investor. Rubbish! Nil Stars (not foreseen, sorry)

If I could give it 0 stars I would...
This book is horrible. If you know nothing about investing at all, maybe it could help you. But it implies that it is a book about online investing and provides you almost NO information pertaining to on-line investing. If you want help doing stock research do a search for stock sites. You can find them easily using any of the search engines. Many investment magazines will reference useful sites as well.

This book provided absolutely nothing worthwhile regarding on-line investing and just rehashed a number of ideas much better presented by their original authors (like William O'Neill's book).

If you want this book I will give it away free. Just send mail to magicease@aol.com. You pay the shipping and I will mail it to you. If I don't hear from anyone, I will throw it away, total waste of printing materials.

Don't waste your money
I am a computer programmer and I have read loads of book on the Market. Forget it do not buy it. Instead consider "Secrets for profiting in Bull and Bear Markets" or CANSLIM method by O'Neil.
