Great, but.....
Combines history with the apparitions of Mary giving incite to the messages given and the reasons for her appearance. As a Catholic I feel better informed about Mary. A book hard to put down once opened.

However a lot must taken with a grain of salt. Some of the events/person he focuses on are not approved by the church if not banned. Plus it would turn off any non-Catholic with his "the Catholic church is the only True church". Many views are that of a very conservative Catholic. Much is written from the defence of the church- not mentioning the many things the church has inflicted on the world and why people fell away. However the chuch has been bashed a lot over the years and its a nice change to see a defence.

I'm surprised he calls himself a biologist and chemist because he calls many recent inventions such as the internet and the computer as the root cause of the many evils of todays world. Plus he has no love for Darwin, which any biologist has to give credit for many scientific advances today, plus the Pope even recognizes the great quantities of scientific proof (for creation of everything but the soul). He forgets that many of todays tools are double edged tools and the use is determined by the person using it.

You read his version of the anti-Christ and you wonder if we the U.S. are it.

The Woman and the Dragon: Apparitions of Mary.
David Michael Lindsey has my gratitude for such an indepth study of the Blessed Virgin's historical apparitions. I have been a serious student of her life, work, and apparitions. Yet, Michael has allowed me to learn much more concerning real history in the making of the world for which I now have a much clearer perception of Her Work in the interest of humanity.

To awaken to one's own blindness, is a sad thing.

Michael's excellent literary skills makes for clarity in understanding what has not been understood. Many important details have come to light without which it is difficult to understand Her. It is a book you cannot put down at day's end.

Her Warnings, Our Struggles, and Inspiration
Upon beginning this book I had anticipated information regards to the apparitions alone. Yet, the author has done extensive research in completing this wonderful literature which includes much, much more. I cried as I read the struggles of all the human races and Christianity; and, again because of Mary's enormous love to warn us of such atrocities. I have read many other Marian books and, this is among the elite of those titles. I would recomend The Woman and the Dragon to those who are seeking information about our Blessed Mother, and how her love for us exists for all time.

One of the best personal accounts of a falconer.
I read this book some 25 years ago. Several times in fact. I am delighted to find that it is back in print! The trials and triumphs described are great lessons for experienced as well as novice falconers. A good object lesson for analyzing the personal preparations for handling such a large and powerful raptor.

FANTASTIC, a true work of love & pain to tame a true killer.
Sam Barnes deserves our utmost respect for the huge efforts he made to bring a Berkut Golden Eagle from behind the iron curtain to the county side of wales. Once he received her his "battles" had just begun. He had to tame a raptor that could easily kill him with her talons as she had killed wolves in the wild. Mr. Barnes discribes the sad treatment Atalanta recieved by her cruel captors, the tender affection she showed for an "adopted" owlet and the savagery which always lurked just below the surface of this beautiful creature. If you love animals, raptors or a good story about a person who wanted to make a difference using will, love and patience do not miss this book. At the end you will want it to go on and on.

The best medical thriller book I have ever read
This book opened my eyes to virology. I have never read a book that totally sucked me in. I actually read it in a few hours, I couldn't put it down for anything. I recommend it to everyone and have had to buy about 5 copies because people I lend it to won't give it back!

Great page turning thriller
This is great writing. Story moves fast and characteres, protag and antag, are real and fascinating. Story line/plot is new and excellent.

A great resource!
This is an excellent collection of gay short fiction, many from the pre-Stonewall period of obscurity. With the current explosion of GLTB literature, a sequel is in order:)

39 Inteligent pieces of litrature - source of pride!
The anthology is an excellent book. The stories were not written exclusively by gay authors, and surprises are waiting for the readers (e.g. Noel Coward's beautiful story). The 39 stories are offered by well-known authors (e.g. Forster, Isherwood), known young authors (Leavitt, Kramer) and by those less known. In so introducing new and promising authors to the readers, Leavitt and Mitchell prove yet again that the distinguished house of Penguin made the right choice in selecting them as editors. RUN TO BUY!

An Exciting Book!
This book proved to be an entertaining police novel.Houston
Police Detective Stuart Haydon investigates a murder done execution style. He sees signs of Los Tecos,a Latin-American death squad that specializes in political assassinations.Haydon
winds up pursuing this group and they prove to be difficult.
Houston,Texas is about to undergo a gang war,Latin style.Haydon is in for the fight of his life. This book shows good knowledge
of police work. You are treated to the Hispanic side of the world of crime. This is a very interesting book that will hold your
attention. Read this. You will not be dissapointed.

David Lindsey is a master of the mystery genre.
I could not put this book down. Not only was the plot inticing from the first few pages, but it kept me guessing throughout the entire novel. Lindsey's Stuart Haydon is as intriguing as the murder he is investigating. His descriptions are gruesomely authentic and his depiction of police investigations and the criminal mind are amazingly accurate and believable. I have trouble reading other authors now with out being disappointed that they don't write like Lindsey. If you like detective novels and have a high tolerance for gore and deviant behavior, you MUST read this one

A Buried Treasure In Need Of Being Dug Up
It's a tragedy this book is out of print, for 1998's Generally Accepted Accounting Principles were literally the most entertaining that have every been promulgated. 1998 was a sparkling and zany year for the Financial Accounting Standards Board, blazing with comic relief and rhetorical slapstick. Several companies took full advantage of 1998's free-wheeling GAAP atmosphere to up their earnings and put liabilities off the books; it was a banner year for such doings, thanks to FASB GAAP pronouncements. If you are lucky enough to find this valuable volume in a second-hand store or garbage sale, buy it immediately. It's a buried treasure that needs to be dug up.

NOT AN ORDINARY TRAVEL BOOK
I am very sorry to learn that this small, beautifully put together
book is out of print. If you have ever vacationed in or worked in or
simply visited Italy or if you have dreamed about doing it, you'll
want to, somehow, find this book. Leavitt and Mitchell have collected
famous writers thoughts on Italy (D.H. Lawrence, Nellie Melba, John
Ruskin, Mark Twain, etc.) and then written down their own wonderful
musings: (What makes an Italian ragu?, The thing that Italian boys do
better than any other boys in the world, Is there a cure for chicken
pox?, Speaking "opera" Italian, et al). This is a charming
& fascinating book which ... is definitely not an ordinary Travel
book. This is a book about living in Italy and loving and relishing
every moment and sharing those moments with us. I hope Chronicle
Books is smart and generous enough to reprint it or, perhaps, publish
a paperback edition.

Lengthy, but definately captivating
Mercy ranks as one of the lengthiest books I have ever read (nearly 600 pages in paperback). Because of other committments, I had to stop near the middle of the book, and was not able to resume reading it for nearly two weeks. The characters were so well developed that I had no trouble remembering who and what the plot was about, and where it was leading me. Although the storyline risks offending sensitive readers, it at the same time shows just how little we may really know about those around us, those we think we know well, even perhaps, family members. I cheered for Carmen Palma and Sander Grant and their cautious romantic relationship. This would be a great start to a series featuring these two characters and their "gut feelings". I would have given Mercy five stars, but the sheer length was a mild drawback. I definately will look for more of Lindsey's books.

A refreshingly original and unique mystery thriller
I didn't expect to be overwhelmed by this book, thinking it would be the typical albeit entertaining murder-mystery novel. Instead I encountered an exceedingly well written story with a warm, likeable protagonist and a plot that truly keeps you wondering until the last chapter. After reading this novel, I have since sought out and read all of Lindsey's novels. If you like a good, gory thriller, you have to read this book.

Mercy
I read Mercy a few years ago, as did my Mom and about 10 other women friends, and we all loved it, even though it was about certain things we had never been involved in, it is riveting. The best thing about this book is the main character, Carmen, whose life is as interesting in her personal life with the interplay with her Mother as is her exciting life in her job. David Lindsay, if you ever read these reviews, are you ever going to write a book with Carmen in it? I have waited years for a book with her in it. Please, let us hear from her again. Your writing is wonderful, but this book was really the one that women liked.

Better Than Ever
I have just finished reading this book in one sitting. Such was its interest that I just could not put it down. Like a good Humphrey Bogart movie once started it just kept going. I consider Mercy by same author a masterpiece of its gendre. THe only comparable author is John La Carre but I find Lindsey a far more interesting writer who tells a much better story. The aspect of the book that I liked most is Lindsey's ability to paint a large canvas; his villains are that bad and stride over continents. He always impresses me with his scolarship in both crime and art history. At his best he can develop beleivable charecters; Cate has my sympathy and interest as does her Russian counterpart Irene. Without getting into detail which is covered by other reviews this was a really good read.

Excellent spy thriller!
Just the ticket to fill my yearning for a good spy novel after seeing the movie Bourne Identity last week. I did not want this book by David Lindsey to end! It was so interesting, exciting, but in just the right amount to keep you intellectually stimulated. It was believable and so well-written I just loved reading it so much. The end was fine, I was a little confused about it, but I liked the book so much I would read something by Mr. Lindsey again in a minute. I could hardly put this book down. Irina, Krupatin, Cate, and Leo were really interesting characters as were Bontate and Wei.

The Best David Lindsey Since Mercy
I always thought that Mercy was one of the better thrillers I had ever read. I waited with baited breath for another Lindsey book up to this standard.Well, it is here in Requiem for a Glass Heart. David Lindsey has developed two leading characters, Irina and Cate, who are vibrant, intellegent, sexy and very complex. I don't usually go out of my way to read thrillers with women lead figures (sorry about this bit of sexism)but I was enthralled by international assasin Irina and FBI agent Cate and how their lives came together. The worlwide settings added to intrigue of the story as well. The worst thing that happed to me while reading Requiem for a Glass Heart was my airplane landing home on Friday night with just over thirty pages to go. I had to sit in the terminal and finish the story of Irina and Cate before driving home after a long week on the road. That is true testiment to the writing skills of Mr. Lindsey.
