It May Be Old, But It's Worth It.
When I was little, my parents would read to me "The Headstart Book of Knowing & Naming." It's one of those books that you can read to your kids again and again. Designed to reach children between the ages of 2 and 6, the other activities that are included as alternatives still drive the enjoyability of children into the younger elementary levels.

"Knowing & Naming" teaches everything from the alphebet to body parts, from directions like up and down to your address. This book will also help build quality time between parents and children who don't get to see much of each other. The interaction designed for parent and child is wonderful.

Laboratory Atlas
I found this book to be invaluable as a guide during, and for review after, the required dissections that I did in my Anatomy Lab course. The photos are clear, and the diagrams and reference tables are easy to use. I feel that I owe my successful completion of my lab course to the fact that I had a pictorial of the dissection to refer to when I couldn't quite picture it in my head. I highly recommend this book to anyone taking the laboratory course with the cat dissection included.

Just perfect for bedtime
I first found this book at the library. It is wonderful. The stories are very interesting (to the young and not so young). It is a great book for bedtime because "just one more" doesn't take too long!

Great Resource
This is a great way to present Bible stories quickly, especially to the littlest children who have very short attention spans!

The video staring Florence Henderson is excellent, and would be a great resource for Christian education programs and for home use.

The way back to Chelm
I had no idea when I watched Shari Lewis and Lamb Chop on television as a child that her grandfather was a rabbi. So we learn in the introduction to this charming book. "I found myself weeping as I read of the indomitable spirit with which endless generations of Jews have faced a hostile world," she writes.

The book includes 20 stories, none more than two pages, and several of them related, touchingly, in only one. Several are Biblical, such as Abraham and the idols, how Moses became a stutterer, Jonah and Ninevah and one of David. Children will also delight in Solomon's lesson about the importance of small creatures.

Other tales are Talmudic, for example one about the boy who prays with a flute.

Still others are humorous, like the tale of the cobbler from Chelm: On a trip from Chelm to the big city, he falls asleep under a tree, but first points his boots toward Warsaw so he'll know which way to go when he awakens. As he sleeps, a branch dangling from the side of a wagon turns the boots around. When he wakes, the toes point towards Chelm so he follows them back home. He arrives thinking, "Why is Warsaw so famous? This is no different than Chelm."

Kids love these stories so much that our copy is falling apart. Alyssa A. Lappen

Soooo good
This is a wonderful story, which teaches little people how important their input and help can be. It even includes, in the middle, an Aesop fable.

I usually shy away from TV-inspired stories - this one is about Lamb Chop and Charlie Horse. However, a few years ago, I happened to be present when my husband read this story to a group of preschoolers (our daughter included). I saw the children's reaction: eyes glued to the ``front of the class", every child engrossed in the story, enchanted, and empowered with pride.
