The Best Way to Educate Yourself About EMFs
As an author of a book on a related subject (magnetic healing), I know firsthand how challenging it is to write in a user-friendly fashion about the complex subject of electromagnetic fields and their effect on health.

B. Blake Levitt's extraordinary commitment of time and effort has resulted in a work that makes this complex subject easy to understand. Not only has she succeeded in explaining the untoward health effects of EMFs, but she also gives her readers a look into the complex political and commercial forces that have led to our current state of affairs.

Faced with the potential of a cell phone tower being placed directly overhead in my high-rise apartment building, I used Ms. Levitt's book as a study guide and subsequently consulted her for additional background information. I have no doubt that this information was key in holding off the installation of the tower.

This book is a "must read" for anyone concerned about EMFs -- and everyone should be!

Technical information made comprehensible
I am a research scientist with a background in psychosocial epidemiology who became interested in the impact of electromagnetic waves on physical, mental and emotional health when I was confronted with applications to construct telecommunications towers in our newly adopted home town. My ideas and information from physics courses were both rusty and dated. Moreover, in postgraduate work I had learned enough about environmental impacts on fetal and child development, neurological functioning, and sleep cycle disruption to be concerned. I wanted to efficiently come up to speed on theories about the waves' effects and peer-reviewed data that tested those theories. Ms. Levitt's book provided an extremely comprehensible and yet responsible orientation to the mechanisms by which electromagnetic waves operate, the research on their impact that was available as of its writing, and the political and economic influences of industry and governmental forces. PLEASE have her update it with the inclusion of the research of the last few years. Solid research findings are supporting her arguments at an escalating rate and they deserve to be disseminated. The public health hazards of unmonitored electromagnetic waves (especially in the rapidly proliferating rf frequencies) are real and an educated public is our best protection against their potential damage.

Empowering insights about EMFs and health
B. Blake Levitt makes the scientific and medical aspects of electromagnetic fields easily accessible to those of us who are not scientists or physicians. Most fascinating was her insightful chapter "What Your Doctor Doesn't Know and Why." She also traces persuasive evidence of links between EMFs and 20th century ailments such as chronic fatigue syndrome, Alzheimer's Disease, and cancer. ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS distills a vast amount of research alerting us to health dangers. It also offers specific suggestions to reduce the impact of EMFs in our homes, workplaces and communities. Our family has become better-informed consumers by relying on this book. Thank you Ms. Levitt for empowering your readers to gain control over an issue with increasing repercussions in all our lives.

the best resource book available on cell tower issues
If a tower is coming to your area and you need to jump on a quick learning curve, this book is a must have. Buy it and be sure your town officials get a copy, give one to your library. This book has proven to be an invaluable resource on all of the issues related to cell tower sitings, including health, property devaluation, and environmental effects.
Ms Levitt's editing results in a very clear read of some highly technical data. She presents a balanced overview of the cell tower situation and provides an important addendum of websites and currant case law for further research.
This is the best cell tower resouce book available today.

500 million guinneapigs? A much needed book!
The wireless age has exploded and people are using the cell phones everywhere and anytime and as it seems without concern about disturbing other people. It is a social disturbance as well as a handy tool to keep in instant and constant contact, two sides of the same coin. But what about the health concerns? Some people get serious headaches and sensation of heat when talking more than a few minutes. The cell phone is radiating microwaves, like your microwave owen, only not as much... But what if, I repeat IF, also non-thermal levels of microwaves are dangerous? Then the health problem for the world is GIGANTIC! Okey, for cancers to emerge we will have to wait at least ten more years to know for sure...

This book gives information about these health concerns by some of the most important researchers in the field.

Highly recommended for anyone to know more about the facts behind the debate in the media!

Just in time! - Lots of great information on cellular issues
The tip of the iceberg? A very timely and much needed review of current health and legal issues surrounding today's cell phone technology- from authoritative sources with lots of great references. If you have a cell tower near you or proposed for your church steeple or neighborhood, you won't want to miss this book! Some of the potential biological impacts are quite surprising!

If you are healthy, this might not be for you!
If you are a healthy woman, with no family history of genetic defects, and work in a non-toxic environment, this book is not for you. Almost the entire book is dedicated to risks to your unborn child rgarding exposure to certain toxins, illnesses, and genetic disorders. I only found four sections (prescriptions and toxins to stay away from, I had mild dysplasia and underwent crysosurgery - but there was only one paragraph about that - and the prepregnancy checklist at the end) that were helpful in this book, and these were very outdated (the book was published in 1989 so the research was done prior to that). It actually warns pregnant woman not to frech kiss those who might be infected with AIDS for fear of contracting it themselves. Throughout the entire book I had to keep telling myself that I am healthy 23 year woman with no family history of genetic disorders and I work in an office. This book kinda scared me!

Overall, a very good and informative book about prepregnancy
This was the first book I bought about prepregnancy. Sussman was highly recommended and I bought this book first. I read each and every page. I am not yet pregnant, this is my first child, and I am not 30 yet -- but I appreciated the parts on high-risk pregnancies. I like to know what may happen just to prepare myself. My husband and I both feel that we are prepared for anything from a "perfect textbook" pregnancy and delivery to complete bedrest and quitting work -- and this book helped us talk about ideas and situations presented in the book.

I especially enjoyed the sections on over the counter and prescription medications, workplace toxins, and why some (everyday) things are not good for your baby.

I agree that some of the content is outdated -- however there are still many good parts!

My favorite part overall is the section with the check lists. I am very organized and keep detailed lists of things to do/ask about/learn more about/read, etc. I would suggest this book to anyone who is planning to become pregnant. I DON'T suggest ANY ONE BOOK exclusively. I believe that you will need several books to get the best picture of what is happening to and in your body. I suggest "What to Expect...", "Unofficial Guide..." and (my personal favorite right now) "Pregnancy Journal...".

More reassuring than alarming
This book gives a very thorough treatment of the factors that may influence your child during pregnancy and even pre-pregnancy, for better or for worse. I found the long lists of factors reassuring rather than alarming, because much of it is common sense (avoiding toxins, diseases, drug interactions, and increasing your own health)and most of the suggestions about behavior modification are quite feasible for most people, if not easy. Your child will thank you, though. Having seen some of the struggles that children of mothers who took drugs during pregnancy have to face 5, 10, and 20 years later, I know that getting this information out is very important.

You'll probably want another book to help you implement some of the lifestyle changes, like losing weight, giving up tobacco and alcohol, and starting a fitness program, but this does give a healthy dose of motivation. It's also a great book to read well before your pregnancy starts; many of these changes will take time. keep this in mind if giving this book as a gift!
