The vocabulary is not difficult and the printing is large and double-spaced throughout the book. While this is an older publication of "Scholastic Book Services," the many, many black-ink drawings will be inspiring to the learning child.
The book is organized around these questions, which are excellent for the young mind: How do people use magnets in their work? What things will stick to magnets? Can a magnet work through things? What part of the magnet is strongest? Why do we make horseshoe magnets?
This book is a great value as an early, FIRST way to handle this subject for a child.

Noted author and scholar Rabbi Jacob Neusner wrote, "this book brings to synagogue song the discipline of the musician, the learning of the scholar, but most important, the aesthetic sense of the pious person who serves God in the beauty of holiness. Teaching us what has been and what can be, Levine promises to turn what is into something better:musically a service to God through aesthetic beauty consonant with the musical tradition of Judaism. A book of enormous value to the life of Judaism today."
In addition to giving Jews everywhere a key to unlock the secrets of their traditional chant, the book is also a practical guide to one branch of a universal musical tradition: liturgical chant. It's a must read for anyone interested in what makes the cantorial art so compelling to listeners and so important to worship.

Hence, Ms. LeVine presents a deep yet subtle vision of how these dogs experience the world and interact with other dogs and with their humans. (If you have never owned an Aussie, it's possible you may not fully appreciate the genius of her photographs and her subjects.) Sometimes the "truth" shines in the dog's eyes or reveals itself in an image of a dog unabashedly having fun. I'm not sure if there are any high-minded lessons here, but something of the exuberance and intensity these dogs experience transcends the pages.
Poet Joseph Duemer contributes extraordinary, insightful phrasing that melds seamlessly with the mood of each photograph and the combination celebrates fully the Zen of dogs. He offers just enough detail and form without trying to manipulate or dictate emotions and perceptions.
Folks who do not share their lives with canines will find this book entertaining. Those who do will find it magical, and, among this group, those who have Aussies of their own will keep this well-crafted and well-designed book within easy reach.
