A Must for apple lovers-saucy and delicious-clear directions
Job well done on directions for recipes for beginners. All ingredients lists are easy to follow. Availability of ingredients-excellent. Pictures would be helpful but descriptive instructions are complete enough.

Kids book that adults will like, too!
I think kids will like this book - but adults who love dogs will enjoy it too! As I read about Moss, I could see in him the same characteristics seen in other herders, especially one we fostered late last year (Barney!). The dog, the girl, and the supporting characters are all very realistically portrayed. I recommend it for kids who love dogs and adults, too.

"Away to Me, Moss": A GREAT Book
"Away to Me, Moss" is a book for sheep dog lovers, pretty much, only. The book is centered around a little girl, a sheep dog, and a parylized man. The Rob cant take care of his sheep dog anymore, so Zanna must take care of Moss. Moss was a one man dog, but Zanna brakes him of that habit.

A good, realistic horsie book.
This book is a nice little story about a horse-crazy boy who has to deal with the fact that his family has no way to buy or keep a horse. He keeps his hopes up, and to the dismay of his parents, his eccentric uncle has a Fjord pony delivered to his house. This is the story of how the boy, his friends and his two siblings work to keep the horse. It is fairly modern, pretty realistic, and could actually happen today. It is nicely written and a good read.

How Do You Like Horses???...
Gift Horse
By Betty Levin

Have you ever wished for a horse? Well, in this book a boy named Matt has his wish come true! Matt asks his uncle Oliver for a horse and he gets a horse! But where will Matt put him? There are so many questions, so Matt and his siblings enter a contest. Will Matt win? Also, Matt needs to think, and fast! Matt's parents call a horse owner about Matt's horse! What will he do? Read Gift Horse by Betty Levin to find out!

I like this book because I love horses. Also it made me jealous because Matt gets a horse.

I think the main idea /lesson is that you should never give up on yourself, because if you give up on yourself you might never have the chance to achieve your goals.

Fire in the Wind is a Good Book
This book is about Meg and her backwards cousin Orin. Meg always gets in fights when she tries to stick up for Orin and her brother Paul. When a fire burns most of Prescott Falls, Maine (Meg's home town) Orin saves Meg and her brother. Meg and her brother are the only ones who know that Orin set a backfire. When Meg finds out the backfire was probably the thing that saved their barn she realizes that she was wrong when she blamed Orin for setting the fire.

I read this book for a book response project and I think you should read it too.

Disappointing
Betty Levin, who raises and trains sheepdogs, clearly had a specific agenda in mind when she wrote this book--to defend the use of sheepdogs, and smear animal rights activists. Her expertise on sheepdogs allows her to create a rich and complex character in Moss, the sheepdog of the title. However, the "animal rights" characters are poorly developed, inconsistent, and unbelieveable. Her contempt for animal rights activists is obvious: in this book, they are uniformly stupid, impulsive, hypocritical (most of them eat meat!), and unethical (compelling a child to engage in illegal activities). At one point, Levin suggests that Jody's mother was "brainwashed" by the other activists.

I have never heard of any animal rights activists being concerned about the plight of sheepdogs, but after reading this book, I wonder if maybe there is cause for concern. Why is Levin so hostile and defensive? Her unrealistic depiction of animal activists leads me to wonder if Moss's yearning to return to his work as a sheepdog is pure invention as well.
