John Horner is ...awesome.
I have read several of John Horners books on paleontology. I, myself, am planning to go into the field of paleontology. Horner's books are informative, interesting, knowledgeable, and smooth reading. Although I disagree with the recommended level of reading this web site has given this book, ages 9-12, please! John Horner didn't write these books to put children to sleep at night, I'm assuming. Overall this book rocks and John Horner can keep 'em comin'!

Best book for children we've found about dinosaurs
Reading this book, you feel like a real paleontologist at a dig. This is my idea of what non-fiction for children could be at its best, nothing cute or overly simplified, but a story giving information in a scientific perspective that was so compelling that now my five year old daughter wants to be a paleontoligist when she grows up, and John Horner is her hero.

This is an awsome book !
excellent pictures and fantastic description of how excavating and preservation is done. We wanted to go out and look for dinosaur bones right away.

The Dinosaur Society's Dinosaur Encyclopedia
Published in Hardcover by Random House (1993)
Authors: Don Lessem, Donald F. Glut, Tracy Ford, Brian Franczak, and Dinosaur Society
Amazon base price: $25.00

Cool reference book on every dinosaur discovered so far.
Combined forces of the two famous dinosaur experts Donald F. Glut and Don Lessem, resulted with the detailed listing and description of all dinosaur genera and species known at the time of the publishing (1994). The encyclopedia contains 400 original illustrations of fossils, skeleton reconstructions and life retorations. It is a pitty thourg, that all the dinosaur described in the book were not accompanied with their illustrations. Nevertheless, it is a great reference book and recommended for all ages

great book for people interested in dinosaurs
Troodon was my favorite dinosaur after I read this book. It's really an amazing speices, resembleing a veliciraptor but signifigantly more intelligent. Some people think that if troodon had not died out with all the other dinosaurs, it would evolve into a senient human-like creature. Also this book is written by don lessem, a reliable expert in dinosaurs and a great writer. He has many other accurate dinosaur books, while most of the dinosaur books they sell are full of mistakes.

This book contains information on how troodon lived, what it looked like, how they discovered it, and why it's such an amazing dinosaur. Again, if you're interested in dinosaurs this is a good book to read.

"Dino" Don Lessem has made a great dino book!
"Dino" Don Lessem has made a great dino book--one of the best,in fact. It has great, up-to-date information about dinosaurs. For example, did you know that the shotest dinosaur name is Minmi, and that the longest is Micropachycephalosaurus? All the things you could ever want to know, and more, all in one. It has the newest discoveries(Giganotosaurus, 1995-1996) and some older ones(Iguanodon, 1800's).The smartest dino(Troodon) and some of the dumbest(Brachiosaurus, Stegasaurus). Now,I could go on like this until all 1,000 of the words I could use would be used up- but I won't. And besides, if I did do that, then I would spoil all the hundreds of suprises and facts that this book holds within itself. So what are you waiting for? Grab this book and get ready for hours of fun!

Exhaustive Research
As a writer acquainted with the grueling research that went into the production of this book, I can tell you, Don Lessem has laid out a remarkable overview of prehistoria in DINOSAURS TO DODOS. As a fellow writer and dinosaur enthusiast, I wish him great success with the project. It's a must for any elementary school library.

Smarter than the average dinosaur book!
My first-grader brought this home from the school library and we both loved it. It's well organized, clearly written, and tells you stuff that's not in every dinosaur book you already own. And the illustrations are spectacular. A real find for fans of dinosaurs and other mysterious creatures.

Great archaeological find brought to life
This book will fascinate children who show interest in ancient civilizations. And, because it shows pictures of a naturally mummified body, it might just be interesting to just about any elementary or junior high school child. This book gives a brief but interesting overview of the recent discovery of the Iceman, a 5,000 year old man found frozen in an Alpine glacier. The book tells this remarkable story while teaching the basics of history and archeology. This book is also an enjoyable read for adults.

Iceman review
The story of the Iceman was fun to read because it's about people who found a dead body in the ice and because it had cool pitchers.

The Iceman
What I liked about this book is when Otzi and the every day objects that were found beside him are unique and wonderfully prserved clues to daily life in a time that has long been mysterious. I also lied when I saw the title, that really caught me.

Raptors!: The Nastiet Dinosaurs
Raptors!: The Nastiest Dinosaurs written by Don Lessem and illustrated by David Peters is a book about dinosaurs, but more specifically raptors.

"Raptors" is a beautifully illustrated book that show what the different raptors might have looked like. Raptors are orinitholestes from which we get archaeopteryx, compsognathus, utahraptor, deinonychus, dromaeosaurus and velociraptor. The raptors varied greatly in size, but they all had killer claws on their hind legs that could disembowel prey with a single swipe.

What I like about this book is that in a straight forward mannor the author has listed under each species: the maning of the name, size, skull length, weight, period(time when alive, place enviornment, what fossils found, and possible prey.

The illustrations are excellent giving meaning to what the author is trying to describe. Skeletal comparisons and pictures of the various dig sights abound making this little book a wonderful descriptive book.

For comparetive anatomy of raptors this book rates very highly and the text is descriptive. For a book that looks like a childrens book, this book packs in a lot of information.

This book has much more up-to-date info on Dromaeosaurids
It shows the REAL velociraptor. As well as Utahraptor, deinonychus and dromeoasaurus. And some that aren't even named yet! Also, this book shows you dinos who are called Raptors who aren't. I love this book. Had it since 5th grade.

Not the book it could have been
Quality, not quantity, Jack. This kind of thing slips out when you begin to believe your own legend. This book could have been so much more if it had not been dumbed-down. Not to kid level, but far enough to be below the level of the average buyer of this book. As it is, it stands in the way of the book that will not now be written, with more info on other members of the tyrannosaur tribe, f'rinstance. You're capable of better. Write fewer, but better books.

Extravaganza!!!!!!
I loved this book!!! It has so much info!! Well okay, many books on dinos have tons of info but in this one you don't have to leaf through the whole book before you find the page your looking for. This book has nice artwork to understand more clearly how this, and many other dinosaurs looked like. Very good. If you like dinosaurs, this is the book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

amazing book about one of the most amazing dinosaurs.
One of the best books about the Utahraptor ever written. However this book is evolutionistic in its basis, and offers some untrue evolutionistic theorys. I still would recomend this book for someone who want's to learn about one of God's most amazing creations.
