Fun and interesting
I bought this for my 7 year old sister...she loves it! She is learning about science without even knowing it and loves making the different concoctions!

Fun for Kids seven and up
"The incredible secret formula book" gives plenty of neat little things to keep you and your kids busy on those boring summer days.

Most of the things in this book use items you probably all ready have in your home: paper, corn starch, sugar and various food items.

This book details things like How to make invisible ink or disappering ink. If that doesn't interest you there's making chalk out of egg shells or how to recylce paper. you can even make "Mutant slime" a kids favorite. Don't like mutant Slime? how 'bout psylly slime or miss muppet slime? victal slime or udderly Gross slime? lots of fun for kids and thier mom and or dad.

Kids' Favorite
This book has become my children's favorite. It is full of cheap ideas that the kid's love to experiment with. I would recommend this book to all parents.

The English Dancing Master: Or, Plaine and Easie Rules for the Dancing of Country Dances, With the Tune to Each Dance
Published in Paperback by Dance Books Ltd (1999)
Authors: John Playford, Hugh Mellor, and Leslie Bridgewater
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

For 17th century dancers
To my fellow reader I give my heartly welcome.

John Playford is one of the most know dance teacher all times. So this book is a must to everyone who is starting or has danced historical dances. Music is no problem if you know how to play violin or recorder, because there are notes for every dance.

If you don't know how to play that isn't a problem at all. In the internet you can find freely copyable music to almost every dance.

English country dances are easy and fun to dance. And you have to use your head in these dances that is very different to modern discodancing. So buy the book, start to dance it keeps dementia away.

Happy dancing.

Excellent usable guide to 17th century dance
The English Dancing Master has been most useful to our theater company in staging authentic ancient dance. The single line of melody in standard music notation is easy for musicians to use. The dance instructions are clear and make it easy for a small group to learn the dance. The dances are beautiful, and there is a wide variety of styles and partnering.

Intracoastal Waterway Chartbook : Norfolk, Virginia, to Miami, Florida

List price: $59.95 (that's 30% off!)
Used price: $33.14

Excellent source... More than a set of charts!
Very usable in it's small page spiral format. Flipping pages as one cruises north or south is easy, and takes very little space at the helm. The annotations indicating marina locations save looking in separate guides when a stopping point is desired. Some obvious side trips (e.g. Banana River) are omitted and would have helped increase usefulness if included.

Excellent up-to-date reference
The charts are well organized and very reliable. Only a minimum number of aids were missing or changed in number. Some of the bridge info is a little dated but generally did not cause any navigational problems.

an essential reference tool for everyone who loves movies
Halliwell's Film and Video Guide, now edited by John Walker, is the single most importance source of information about movies and an essential reference tool for everyone who loves movies. As I work in the film world, I own hundreds of movie reference books. Many are useful but Halliwell's Film Guide is the one I have to keep on my desk at home and at the office. Maltin's paperback guide is good but it does not give as many credits as the Halliwell guide so it is not as useful. And the Halliwell Companion is also hugely helpful as well when one needs to to look up the films of stars and directors. Neither has as much depth as specialized works but no other books have so much information in such handy form. I couldn't live without it, cinematically that is

Halliwell's Filmgoer's and Video Viewer's Companion
Published in Paperback by HarperCollins (paper) (1993)
Authors: Leslie Halliwell and John Walker
Amazon base price: $60.00
Used price: $8.47
Collectible price: $11.50
Average review score:

Essential for film buffs
Halliwell's Companion makes all other film encyclopedias look superficial in comparison. It is essential for all film buffs who like to cross-reference info. The only minor quibble I have is that, as the BBC's film expert for decades, Halliwell naturally places a lot of emphasis on the British film industry -- at times to the point of making it seem as if it were as significant as Hollywood's contribution

wealth of information in a cheap jacket
No question, content wise this one tops most pubs on the subject. Especially helpful for those who like reading into it. In a sense it could replace all of Ansel Adams books. In some respects it makes photographic process easier to understand, easier to anticipate inconsistancies and sure should help better ones' photography (Ansel is still a required reading though as his language is simply superior to anything out there). At $... it also should be better published (photographs are just cheap looking). All in all information far outweighs printing shortfalls.

A good book with a lot of details
All the technical details of photography have been covered. The review questions at the end of the each chapter are helpful too. I feel one can surely save a lot of film after reading this book. And there are quite a few b&w photogrpahs which are quite interesting.

The admirable book
The book "Basic Photographic Materials and Processes" is separated on 16 chapters. Very useful chapters for everybody, both for beginners and professionals are chapters: 1) Light and Photometry, 4) Photographic Sensitometry, 5) Photography Optics (there is an instruction how to build the pinhole camera with exact calculation a diameter for different pinhole cameras and how make the lens testing), 8) Black and white Photographic Developments (with a paragraph about anti-foggants, special black-and-white process), 10) Tone Reproduction (Objective tone-reproduction curves for motion pictures, transparency etc., Luminance values of an outdoor scene, Flare factor, The making of negative, The making of Positive, the equations for average gradient for different quadrants of tone-reproduction diagram, ......), 11) Micro Image Evaluation (with much examples og graininess of films of different producers), 13) Filters with their influencies on different sort of films, 14) Color, 15) Color Reproduction and 16) Digital photography. This book is very useful and its content is very comprehensive one. I photograph since 1960 and I admire Mr. Anselm Adams, that is to say I very, very recommend this book for one, who has serious interest about photography and different cameras with their optics. The book has many pictures, useful tables and diagrams. (Rene Novak, studio ER67, ...)

Halliwell's Filmgoer's Companion (12th Ed)

Could Be Better
Over the last 20 years (or so) I've sent corrective notes to Leslie Halliwell and the subsequent editor, John Walker. For the premiere film encyclopedia, the Filmgoers Companion still has lots of errors, missing information for supposedly complete filmographies, and many many unlisted film stars, especially from the "transition period" to talkies (Anita Page, etc.). Personally, I think Walker was a very bad choice; he doesn't seem to be "into" the encyclopedic format of this valuable resource.

The Filmgoer's Companion.
I would say that this is certainly the flimgoer's encyclepidea to all things related to movies and the people involved in creating them. As far as knowlage about films goes. I would say this is impressive and is recommended to any serious film buffs out there.

New edition.
If you need a new edition of this work, try Halliwell's Who's Who in the Movies.
