My Backyard Garden
Attractive watercolor illustrations and a thorough, well-organized text make this an excellent introduction to gardening. The author covers everything from garden layout to month-by-month care and quietly promotes poison-free pest control. Includes an index and a helpful guide to finding local resources.

Backyard Birds of Winter
This book is just what I was looking for so my children and I could identify the birds that come to our feeder in the wintertime. It gives very good illustrations, map locations of the region where each particular bird is seen during the winter, feeding habits and other information about each bird. I like this because it sorts out which birds stay for the winter. I was having trouble identifying some of the birds from a general bird book. It also has a section on bird food and bird feeders which was helpful. I am looking forward to enjoying this book for many years to come.

A Winning PIcture-Book
This book takes us to the woods of early spring, focusing on the brief explosion of flowering plants. It is full of stunning line drawings and beautiful watercolors. The accompanying text explains strategies the plants use to survive winter and prepare for their brief emergence in spring, using an easily understood, engaging style. Together, the pictures and text effectively convey a sense of wonder. I highly recommend this book for children and adults.

A Wonderful Look at a Precious Landscape
This book takes us through the year in the tallgrass prairie, from the first awakenings of spring, through the glory of summer, the last blooms of autumn, and the dormancy of winter. It helps us appreciate the uniqueness and beauty of this special ecosytem, both in its informative, well-written text and beautiful line drawings. It will appeal to both children and adults.

For the littlest lepidopterists
Butterfly meets flower in this well illustrated picture book. Each page includes several butterflies and flowers. The butterflies are all idientified on the end pages, but are not named throughout the book. The flowers are, however, and one can make a game of identifying each butterfly on the pages, just as you might in your own garden, and take note of the flowers each species prefers. Butterflies in this book are categorized by family, so you can make an educated guess as to the type of those butterflies which fly into your yard that are not represented in the book. The large format is simple and uncluttered...perfect for emerging lepidopterists.

agatha christie bio
The book is definitely for the young reader. I sent mine back aafter just a few pages and a skim (since I am an old reader!). I have read Agatha's wonderful autobiorgraphy and I was astounded how this author could take the same info and make it so very boring. Lots of detail and no life. I wouldn't recommend it to young readers either-surely we can do better for our children.

A great little book, with attractive, accurate, informative, full color illustrations depicting various plants, gardening tools, garden plot layouts and much, much more.
This is a handy little book, well-printed and edited, on calendered (slick) paper and with a hard, durable cover. Among other things, it tells you a simple method to test your soil that you can do yourself, to tell you whether your soil is clay, silt or sand.
Every gardener should have a copy of this one in his or her library.
